Dee Why Sydney

I am at home sick today and looking through some rejected photos to find something to process. The title 'carried away' refers to the processing of the image. I'm afraid I got carried away with this one, but I kind of like it anyway so I thought I would post it. (original image posted below)

After several days of rain, the morning skies were clear for these swimmers at the Dee Why rock pool, Sydney. These pools form a Sydney icon, carved out of the rocks adjacent to most of Sydney's ocean beaches.

Thank you all for kind comments, suggestions and favorites. Enjoy, Mario.

Bruce and I ventured to this spot to capture the huge waves - We havent seen anything like this - The water was gushing down the stairs at the top and going all the way up to the toilet block at Dee Why.

We braved the elements up to waist deep and nailed this one.

This Summar has some cleaning marks and fine scratches on the front element, leading to the "Summar glow".

Last shot of the roll, the tall grass at Dee Why Lagoon. Summer will be coming to an end soon - and the lush greenery will soon fade into dry, warm colours as the weather begins to chill.

Long Reef is an interesting area from the point of view of geology. Beach sands include the minerals Ilmenite, rutile, zircon and monazite.

Bald Hill claystone and haemetite are in shot here. Bulgo sandstone is present, but not evident in this photo.

Most of the red comes from iron, so I'm told. But aluminium is also present in the form of kaolinite. In the 1880s there was a copper mine here at Long Reef.

A rather desolate looking scene. Hardly any plants in shot, as if it's in a dry region. Though the average annual rainfall here is over 1,200 mm per year.

A lone jogger on Dee Why beach, Sydney.

it's quite intimidating to be shooting with my little 400D whilst having some pro behind crunching away on his MkIII Ds! wonder how his shots ended up....
