I would like to dedicate this final shot from my my visit to the Bridget Riley show in London to my good friend Philip Male who hates abstract art , but you never know this might win him over
I have posted shots of her Black and White work and her large coloured works. This final posting shows two of her works were she plays with curved lines. These were the paintings that completely amazed and delighted me . She manages to create within two dimensional static paintings works that have not only a feeling of depth and texture but seem to move and shimmer in front of your eyes . Its a time in the year to make lists I am sure that the Riley show was my personal cultural highlight of last year
The Hayward Gallery in London is currently holding a large retrospective on the work of the
artist . Bridget Riley CH CBE was born in 1931 its been a long working life and she is still creating new works .The exhibition traces both the origins and the evolving nature of Riley’s innovative practice, the exhibition brings together the artist’s iconic black-and-white paintings of the 1960s, expansive canvases in colour, early figurative works and recent wall paintings.
The exhibition is on at the Hayward until late January well worth a visit if you are in London

Respectfully dedicating this photo to the memory of Russian anti-corruption activist and dissident, Alexei Navalny (6/04/76 - 2/16/24). My prayers for the thousands of political prisoners in Russia, Cuba, China, North Korea, Nicaragua, Venezuela, etc. May there one day be justice for all victims of totalitarianism.

I am dedicating today's picture to Budd aka Skipwrope on Flickr. Budd passed away this weekend to the great shock of all who knew and loved him. My friend Matt, his son, is uploading one last shot from Budd's camera today. Budd was a wonderful warm soul who loved photography and flickr, if you'd like to comment on Budd's last shot I know it would mean a lot to Matt and his family ~ thanks!
There is so much power in setting goals for yourself and trying your best to bring them to fruition. So many people are discouraging at the top of the year, saying everyone who makes a New Year's Resolution is a liar and will be the same. But you shouldn't let that deter you. I set the goal to dedicate myself to more self care. What are some goals you have set for yourself?

Before I dedicate myself to the landscapes again, I would like to show you a discovery that I made over the weekend. And I didn't even have to leave the house to make this discovery.
When I cut open a tomato, I found this beautiful structure that immediately reminded me of a tree with the seeds hanging on its branches. Since these “fruits” stand for new life, I quickly realized the name of this picture.
Well, I don't know how you feel about it (maybe you find it really boring), but I'm totally fascinated by this sight.
By the way, I ate my model after the shoot and it was extremely tasty. A statement that really gets a portrait photographer into big trouble ;-).

Before I dedicate myself to the autumnal weather out there, I'll briefly bring summer back. Even if it's just a greeting from my garden.
The sunny and warm time is represented by an elegant red armiral butterfly who is having breakfast on the buddleia.
So now we can start with rain, fog and colorful leaves. I'm ready.

“Nature, time and patience are the three great physicians.” - Chinese Proverb. All three of these prescriptions are what I will arm myself with for this week as I retreat to the woods for a bit of camping. The Trilliums will be finished blooming but the birds will be around. I will bring a chair so I can patiently wait for the birds to pose for me ( fingers crossed). I will dedicate my time mainly for observing birds. However, I am bringing my macro lens just in case. I may get lost in my reverie. I shall be back on Flickr eventually. Keep going out to explore with your cameras, too!
I would like to dedicate this accomplishment to my brother, WT (Walking Tom) www.flickr.com/photos/tomjaynes/
WT,
It was because of you, that I developed a serious interest in photography. It was from you that I learned and countinue to learn the basics and principles of photography. If it were not for you, this would not have happened. For that, I would like to say, Thank You and I Love You.

In late July, I was contacted by Denise Szakaly, Lead Graphic Designer for WNC Magazine, saying they were going to do a short history on Grist Mills in North Carolina and were considering three of my photographs, Dellinger Mill, Mingus Mill, and Murray's Mill. I was again contacted in August saying my photographs of Dellinger and Mingus Mills had been selected for publication in their September issue.
On the same day in July, I was contacted by Emma J. Williams, Managing Editor of Schmap Guides saying I was on the short list for their September Guide of Chattanooga, TN for my photo of the Chattanooga Choo Choo. I was later notified that my photograph would be used.
Thanks WT, I told you I was listening.

I dedicate this "Rose" to Nancy Clark as a "wanna be warmer Wednesday" gift. Chris and I visited the L.A. County Arboretum (go figure) between rain storms rare to SoCal. The rain drops are from actual rain & not from the usual sprinklers.

The Impérios are very peculiar chapels dedicated to the Holy Spirit. According to the legend, the Holy Ghost appeared in a dream to Queen Isabel and ordered her the construction of a church in his honor along with the election of an “emperor” to be chosen among the workers who built up the church (that’s why the name Impérios). They are the main location of the Holy Spirit festivals, nowadays very popular in all Azorian islands, lasting some weeks.

I'm dedicating this one to J. Geils, who died earlier this week."Must have got lost" was one of their earlier hits, one I preferred much more than their glossy '80s stuff.
This location is a favorite of mine(and others). It is a peaceful old place,in the Iowa "boonies".The old windmill was always distinctive, but when it fell on top of the house a few years back,it raised the ambiance of this place to a whole new level.Something got lost here many years ago(probably during the '80s Farm Crisis that hit Iowa so hard),but what we have since found is pretty darn interesting....
"Must have got Lost" live...
HFF everybody!
I dedicate this photograph to Eliot Porter. His style was a inspiration when I first started photography in the early 90s.

Luca Signorelli (Cortona, 1441-1445 circa – Cortona, 16 ottobre 1523), Venuta dell'anticristo.
Inside the Cathedral of Orvieto, there is the Chapel of San Brizio containing one of the greatest pictorial cycles of the Italian Renaissance. The pictorial decoration was started in 1447 by Beato Angelico with the help of Benozzo Gozzoli. The two artists soon interrupted the work, which was only completed in the years 1499-1504 by Luca Signorelli. Of the latter, the grandiose apocalyptic scenes dedicated to the Coming of the Antichrist, the End of the world, the Resurrection of the body and the Last Judgment are famous.

Yeah, I've caught some lightning earlier in 2023, but I actually dedicate time specifically for lighting. This was one of those nights. In fact the first one of 2023.

Freedom
Freedom will not come
Today, this year
Nor ever
Through compromise and fear.
I have as much right
As the other fellow has
To stand
On my two feet
And own the land.
I tire so of hearing people say,
Let things take their course.
Tomorrow is another day.
I do not need my freedom when I’m dead.
I cannot live on tomorrow’s bread.
Freedom
Is a strong seed
Planted
In a great need.
I live here, too.
I want my freedom
Just as you.
Langston Hughes
There are people who've said that I'm being brave for being openly supportive of gay marriage, gay adoption... With all due respect, I humbly dissent. I am not being brave, I'm a decent human being... Love is a human experience, not a political statement

But laws alone cannot secure freedom of expression; in order that every man may present his views without penalty there must be a spirit of tolerance in the entire population.
Albert Einstein
Freedom is like a bag of sand. If there is a hole anywhere in the bag, all the sand will run out. If any group of our people are denied their rights, sooner or later all groups stand to lose their rights. All the freedom will run out.

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
William Wordsworth
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I am dedicating this lovely rose to Johnny Ruffo, a rising Australian star who passed today, aged just 35. RIP Johnny.

He was the last contestant eliminated in the competition and subsequently signed a recording contract with Sony Music Australia. In 2012, Ruffo won the twelfth season of Dancing with the Stars Australia. His debut single "On Top", released in June 2012, peaked at number 14 on the ARIA Singles Chart and was certified platinum. Sunrise in San Diego.
The Clube Naval de Lajes das Flores is situated in a structure above the port and marina, crafted from volcanic blocks with whitewashed edges—a characteristic style in the Azores I refer to as "Dalmatian houses”. This building holds historical significance as the former site of the Lajes Whale Factory, established in the 19th century for the production of whale oil. However, operations ceased in 1981 due to protective measures for whales, putting an end to hunting activities.
Today, the Clube Naval actively promotes sea-based sports and recreation such as sailing, diving, and boating. They offer courses and trips in these activities while also overseeing the Lajes Whaling Museum, housed within the old whale factory. Adjacent to it, in the Casa dos Botes warehouse, the club dedicates efforts to preserving and restoring historic whaling boats.
