Portsmouth's Anglican Cathedral, dedicated to St Thomas of Canterbury, dates back to the 1180s, but has been rebuilt or extended on several occasions - in 1693, 1938 and 1991. The former parish church became a cathedral only in 1927, when the diocese of Portsmouth was created. This photograph is of part of the pulpit, installed in 1693.

Dedicated to Keith Johnstone

Every day I eat a slice of floor

with a thick layer of the window

Afternoon I drink a cup of moon

and take a nap on my mirror

Before I go to sleep I pray to dog

save the spoon have mercy on my ceiling

In my dream I walk without my door

and wake up to start from the beginning

This photo is dedicated, first and foremost, to my dear friends, Nonny and Gordon Hargreave, and to all Koala lovers, all round the World :-)

To all those who have put their lives on their lives on the line to protect their countries. "There is no greater love, than for a man to lay down his life for his friends".

To the Red Cross, for their work of healing all round the World, and David Arnold, who gave me this lovely badge in 1994.

To Paul St Onge, who was my partner when I was a student in Boston from 1985 to 1988, and for years of friendship and love since then. You can just see peeking out a bit the Georgio Armani jumper I bought with my first paycheck - he and I had a sweater collection that didn't quite rival Emelda Marco's love for shoes, but it was large enough for me to wear a different one each day to German class for a whole semester. In fact, I actually was committed enough to make sure I never wore the same one twice. If only I had set my mind to my research with such diligence. Thank you, Poops, for the love you have given me.

Just peeking out you can see Bill's tartan scarf which I wore today after many years. I always felt a bit cheated that he died on January 6th - Epiphany - but now realise it was his arrival in Heaven, not his departure from this earth.

This is a family dedicated channel to our beloved big lad Benji

We got Benji in 2007 when he was 4 years old as the owner was suffering from an illness and was no longer capable of looking after him

We got him on the 21st may 2007 so we used that date to celebrate his birthday

When Benji came to live with us he was a very independant lad and was always the boss especially over my two young sons and he stamped his authority quite quickly

He did test us at the beginning but soon knew that living here with us he was going to get nothing more than love and attention and he got that in abundance

He loved his home comforts as he would often take over the settee and would declare that space as his own

I myself have had health issues and Benji would always pop his head up to see if everything was alright with me and i would do the same with him everynight

We nearly lost Benji in 2013/2014 when we discovered a small lump on his groin and the vet at the time told us it was just a fatty lump and just ignore it

We knew something was not right and advised the vet that we wanted it removed and we would pay for the operation

We booked him in 2 weeks after that appointment and when we got him to the PDSA they told us that it was a good job that we ignored her colleagues advice and decided to go for the operation as it saved his life as this so called fatty lump was actually a growth that was cutting off his blood vessel, The operation was a success and it extended our time with Benji

There was times that we questioned some of the vets advice as for when we kept asking about all the lumps that was appearing on his body and again we were told that they were just fatty lumps

Over the past couple of years we were concerned of a few lumps under his chest and a few that would appear around his ribs etc and again we were told to ignore them as they were fatty lumps

Well those lumps turned out to be cancer and cost our baby boy his life as his liver had also became very enlarged and we had to make a decssion if we wanted to die in agony as we were informed or for the vet to give him that terrible injection

We took him home for a day so that he could say his goodbyes to my sons and we stayed awake with him all night

The following morning we gave him his favourite a tin of tuna and he had a good drink of water and at 10:15am on September 1st 2017 Benji was put to sleep

My wife held him in her arms as i cuddled his head and kept him from seeing the needles and he dropped into his deep sleep forever

The vet that dealt with Benji on his final moment was a wonderful and caring vet and we thank her from the bottom of our hearts for all she done

We love you Benji and we will walk together again one day soon

Forever your

Mammy, Daddy and Brothers

Shushufindi, Equador / April 18, 2009 -

Gas burners hardens the local atmosfere, they can be found everywhere, in the city, at the forest, near houses. When their light is off, they throw txic gases in the air. Shushufindi is a city victmated by the abusive oil exploitation taken during 30 years by the american enterprise Texaco. At the time this instituition enjoyed the monopoly situation, it started deliberatedly to throw toxic water in the middle of the forest, hiding and destructing documents related to this practical destiny to what should be reinjected in the deep of the land. This caused in 5 years the complete aniquilation of two indian groups and generated cancer cases in the whole population in the cities of Shushufindi and Lago Agrio. This troubles takes us to the greatest process in human history as the affected communities are asking for 27 billion dolars to both the company and the equatorian governement (as some employees got corrupted by the american company and let it leave the country without any problems) just in order to try to recover the enviroment dammages. The lawyer in charge for the case is an interesting and determined equatorian who used to be a worker cleaning oil fields destructed by accidents. He started to denounce irregular situations in oil exploitation and them decided to study law, with the help of the church, through a distance course just to be dedicated to this work. He was awarded as the 2007 CNN Hero of the Year.

Ananta Vasudeva Temple (odia:ଅନନ୍ତ ବାସୁଦେବ ଦେଉଳ) is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna, an avatar of Lord Vishnu located in Bhubaneswar, the state capital of Odisha, India. The temple was constructed in the thirteenth century, and the complete murties of Krishna, Balarama and Subhadra are worshipped there. Balarama stands under a seven hooded serpent, Subhadra holds Jewels pot and lotus in her two hands keping her left foot over another jewel pot, while Krishna holds a mace, chakra, lotus and a conch. The temple dates back to the period of Chandrika Devi, the daughter of Anangabhima III, during the reign of the king Bhanudeva.

LEGEND

It appears that the original image of Vishnu was worshipped on the spot where the great temple of Ananta Vasudeva was built in the 13th century A.D. Thus in the 13th century, Queen Chandrika of Eastern Ganga dynasty was prompted to construct a new temple - the temple of Anata Vasudeva in this place. There must have been an old temple where this Vishnu image was installed. The Marathas, who extended their empire up to river Mahanadi, were responsible for renovating the Vishnu temple at Bhubaneswar in the late 17th Century.

ARCHITECTURE

In form, the temple resembles the Lingaraj temple, but includes vaishnavite (Lord Vishnu related) sculptures. The temple has longitudinal bands of miniature shikharas (shrines), exactly like those in Lingaraj temple, with the minor difference that the number of the shikharas forming one longitudinal band in its case is only three. The sculpture in the exterior walls varies in character in each temple in Bhubaneswar. Most of the female sculptures in the temple walls are overly ornamanted and lack originality

DIFFERENCE FROM JAGANNATH TEMPLE IN PURI

The idols found in the garbhagrha (sanctum sanctorum) of the temple have complete structure unlike the images of the Jagannath Temple, Puri. Here the shrimurtis (idols) are made of black granite stone, rather than wood, as seen in the Puri temple. For this temple only the city gains its name as Chakra kshetra (circular place), whereas Puri is named Shankha kshetra (curved place).

Dedicated to jackieb163, and taken on her 40th birthday, at her request. She had asked members of Sunrise, Sunset -- Anything Sun to take pictures of the sunset on Monday, November 14, 2005, and post them on the site, and in a thread dedicated to her. I am a history buff, so earlier in the day I sent her a Flickrmail, informing her that she had been born on the first day of the Battle of the Ia Drang Valley in Vietnam, which was the subject of the Mel Gibson film "We Were Soldiers Once."

My vantage point was about a block and a half before my usual bus stop coming home from work. This is a pond in a privately-owned park adjacent to an apartment complex. It is surrounded by a metal fence, so I simply put the camera lens through the fence and took about 30 pictures. I am posting two: one of ducks on the pond, with the sunset reflected on the surface; and another of the sunset itself, with several jet contrails set against it. This was not the best sunset I have ever seen (or captured), but it was good enough for the very specific purpose for which I took the pictures.

And I hope Jackie's day has been grand.

Had put down the sword and shield and had been driving his young charge around the faire

Kieren's photostream is pretty much bursting with photos of pigs, real and stuffed... and I know for a fact she's posted photos of the Meanwood Valley Urban Farm pigs before, because I responded with a photo of them doing something RATHER rude, considering the number of children in the area...

Anyway, me and Rich took the kids to the farm today, and it seems the 'pig love' we witnessed previously has been somewhat productive - here's mummy pig with her three teeny babies.

I have decided that this is a seriously good omen for you Keef :-) I can't tell you how much I'm hoping that the outcome of everything you've been through is your BFP, hopefully in less than 2 weeks now. I really am sending all the vibes I can, hope the pig offspring bring good luck!
