A lone Maple declares itself in autumn in the depths of a forest of Arbor Vitae. It does not stand out like this when green, or bare. Its shade tolerance will, in due time, lead it to dominance in this place.

We celebrate the resurrection
and hail the risen Christ.
We kneel before the rugged cross
where Jesus gave His life.
We lift our hands in total praise
and give thanks to God above
for the great sacrifice He made
to declare His unfailing love.
If we look back to Calvary
where Jesus was crucified,
we can see His nail-pierced hands
and the wounds in His side.
We marvel at Christ's suffering
and give thanks for His sacrifice
'cause it was for us that Jesus died
so we could have eternal life.
But God raised Jesus from the dead!
And with gratitude we can say,
"Our sin debt has been paid in full,"
so we celebrate Resurrection Day!

“I declare
That later on,
Even in an age unlike our own,
Someone will remember who we are.”
― Sappho, Come Close
Once upon a time, the pine tree, that spring is already approaching.
The mole croaked grimly: - He will surely come by car.
The hedgehog turned stern: - Rather on a scooter.
The snake hissed: - I don't believe it, he'll come on a bicycle.
The blackbird whistled: - I know something about it, he will come by plane.
- From where again," said the magpie, "I do not take my eyes off her
and last year in May I saw her on the streetcar.
- Not true spring usually arrives by motorcycle!
- And I will prove to you here that it is by car.
- Not true, because in a carriage!
- In a carriage? - What are you saying?
I can briefly declare that he goes by his own boat!
And spring has come on foot.
Already the flowers are enjoying her , already the grasses are growing before her
And they are humming - welcome spring!

We're through being cool
We're through being cool
Eliminate the ninnies and the twits
Going to bang some heads
Going to beat some butts
Time to show those evil spuds what's what
If you live in a small town
You might meet a dozen or two
Young alien types who step out
And dare to declare
We're through being cool
We're through being cool
Spank the pank who tried to drive you nuts
Time to clean some house
Be a man or a mouse
Waste those who make it tough to get around
If you live in a big place
Many factions underground
Chase down Mister Hinky Dink
So no trace can be found

At the tip of Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula lies the first known evidence of European presence in the Americas. but I am arrogant enough to mean "lower forms of animal life" when I refer to animals. Thus, when I say that I like animals, I do not necessarily include my own species, among whom are large numbers of individuals for whom I have no fondness at all, and some whom I hold in utter contempt. Indeed, I sometimes wonder why "You're an animal" is an insult; it seems to me that, if animals could talk, "You're a human" would be one of their favorite insults :-)

Can you get anything like an original composition at a honeypot location? Well I'd normally say 'No' but I did a search on the castle on Flickr and a quick Google search and I only found one shot of one of these rings and it was used differently in the shot. I'll tentatively say then that this is at least a very rare composition.
Both on my way to Skye and coming back there was no interesting light so I decided to try to shoot it from the parking area for the community centre. On the return trip I spotted these rusty mooring rings on the slipway and thought they would make an unusual foreground element for the castle. The image is compiled from 7 focus stacked images to try to get it all pin sharp. Probably overkill but better safe that sorry.
I should declare that I've taken a duplicate of the image, slightly enlarged the castle and blended the two together so in effect a focal length blend. I was trying to use the distortion effect of the 15-35mm to do this but found I needed to lose too much of the sky for it to work.
I'll leave it up to you as the viewer to decide whether it's 'permitted' or not? As I've declared it and it's basically 2 duplicate images blended I feel it is no different to blending water or focus stacking but if you fell differently then that's your right.
Thanks for viewing.

"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork." (Psalm 19:1 NKJV)
This is my first post of the milky way on my photostream, and it is probably a good time to address a few things here as fellow photographers may be curious. Multiple exposures and stacking or tracking, is the gold standard especially in astrophotography; this results in clean images with excellent clarity and balanced exposure. I acknowledge that, and have the highest respect for photographers who use these techniques. This image however, is a single exposure capture of the milky way. My photographs, so far, are all single exposures, including this one. There are obvious drawbacks in single exposure photography but I also see advantages. For me, I am prepared to work within the limits of single exposure work and accept the trade-offs. I prefer a simpler workflow in photography - both on-site and in post-production.

LITTLE BEE: *Sits in pretty pink prunus blossom tree and sobs, and sobs and sobs.*
VOICE ONE NEARBY: *Quietly.* “Bumble? Bumble!”
VOICE TWO NEABY: *Equally quietly.* “What is it, Little Ladybird?”
LITTLE LADYBIRD: “I hear crying, Bumble. Do you hear it too?”
BUMBLE: “I do declare, Little Ladybird. I wonder who would be crying on such a beautiful day?”
LITTLE LADYBIRD: “I think it is coming from within that prunus tree over there, Bumble. I can see the blossoms trembling.”
BUMBLE: “Well, why don’t you fly up and see who it is, Little Ladybird.”
LITTLE LADYBIRD: “Oh! Do I have to, Bumble? Couldn’t you just climb the tree and find out for yourself?”
BUMBLE: “Yes you do, Little Ladybird!” *Shocked.* “We bears, even little ladybird bears like you, and flower bears like me, have a responsibility to comfort anyone who is unhappy or crying.”
LITTLE LADYBIRD: “Yes I know Bumble, but you also know that I am shy and scare easily. What if it is a monster in that tree? What if it is a ladybird bear eating monster, Bumble?” *Trembles.* “I’m scared.”
BUMBLE: “Oh you don’t need to be scared, Little Ladybird. There are no such things as ladybird bear eating monsters.”
LITTLE LADYBIRD: “But how do you know, Bumble? Have you ever met a monster before, even a non ladybird bear eating one?”
BUMBLE: “Well no, Little Ladybird, but if it is perchance one, you can fly away quickly. Listen to that sobbing. It is so heartbreakingly sad. We cannot just go by and ignore it. It is our duty to help.”
LITTLE LADYBIRD: “Alright Bumble. I’ll try and be brave.”
BUMBLE: “Good girl, Little Ladybird. You can do it.”
LITTLE LADYBIRD: “Flies up quietly into the prunus tree and peers through the blossoms and sees Little Bee crying in the fork of the tree. She flies back to Bumble on the ground below.*
BUMBLE: “Well done, Little Ladybird. I know you are shy and easily scared. That was very brave of you.”
LITTLE LADYBIRD: “Thank you, Bumble.”
BUMBLE: “Well, what did you see? Who is crying in the tree, Little Ladybird?”
LITTLE LADYBIRD: “Well, you were right, it wasn’t a ladybird bear eating monster in the tree, Bumble. It was a little bee bear who is sobbing and sobbing and sobbing like his poor little heart is broken.”
BUMBLE: “Then we must help him, Little Ladybird!” *Walks up to tree and calls from below.* “Hullo! Hullo up there! Hullo?”
LITTLE BEE: *Sobs and sobs, then snuffles. “Hul… hullo?”
BUMBLE: “Hullo there, little bee bear. What troubles you so that you are crying?”
LITTLE BEE: “Who…” *Sniffs and snuffles.* “Who are you?” *Opens eyes wide as he spies a friendly looking golden mohair bear beneath the tree.*
BUMBLE: “I am Bumble, and this is my friend and ward, Little Ladybird.” *Points paw to Little Ladybird as she flies and lands in the tree on a branch next to Little Bee.*
LITTLE LADYBIRD: *Waves paw at Little Bee, smiles shyly, then blushes pink beneath black and white mohair plush.*
BUMBLE: “Little Ladybird is a little bit shy. Who are you, little bee bear?”
LITTLE BEE: *Sniffles and wipes tears from eyes.* “I am…” *Gulps.* “Little Bee.”
BUMBLE: “Well, how do you do, Little Bee.” *Smiles in a friendly way.* “Good, well now we have the formalities out of the way, why are you crying Little Bee?”
LITTLE BEE: “Well, I am new here to this place, and… and…” *Tears well in eyes.* “And I became lost. I’m looking for Daddy Jesse’s garden. Do you know Daddy Jesse? He is very nice. He looks after a big bear family and makes them cakes and throws tea parties for them, and… and…” *Gulps back tears.* “And he gives them big cuddles and lots of soft kisses. I need to get unlost, so that I can play in his garden with the other bears at Daddy Jesse’s house, like Paddy and Scout and Rosie.”
LITTLE LADYBIRD: *Quietly.* “Oh Bumble. He sounds like a very nice Daddy, just like the kind we are looking for.”
BUMBLE: “I’m afraid we don’t know Daddy Jesse, but I think Little Ladybird and I would like to meet him.”
LITTLE BEE: “Why…” *Snuffles.* “Why would you like to meet Daddy Jesse, Bumble?”
BUMBLE: “Well, you see, Little Ladybird and I are looking for a new home, Little Bee.”
LITTLE BEE: “Why Bumble? Why Little Ladybird? What is wrong with your house?”
LITTLE LADYBIRD: *Looks sad and shakes her head.*
BUMBLE: “Unfortunately, Little Bee, Little Ladybird and I recently lost our home, which was in a beautiful old oak tree in the middle of a garden of an old house. One day some awful noisy… things.”
LITTLE LADYBIRD: “They were monsters, Bumble.” *Trembles with fear.* “They were big, noisy monsters made of metal, with big, sharp teeth.” *Trembles more.*
BUMBLE: “Well, the monsters or whatever they were, attacked our tree and tore it out of the ground, and they built a big, ugly house of grey boxes on top of where our home was. So,” *Sighs.* “Now we are looking for a new home.”
LITTLE BEE: *Puts paw to mouth.* “Oh that is awful for you, Bumble and Little Ladybird!” *Gasps.*
LITTLE LADUBIRD: “I know, Little Bee! I was scared. I had to fly away, and Bumble ran through the undergrowth to get away.”
BUMBLE: “Perhaps, Little Ladybird and I could help you find your very nice and kind sounding Daddy Jesse and his garden, Little Bee?”
LITTLE BEE: “Oh!” *Gasps and smiles. “Oh would you? Could you?”
BUMBLE: “Yes of course we can, Little Bee! We are bears after all, so we must help everybody and everbear in distress.”
LITTLE BEE: “Claps paws in delight.*
LITTLE LADYBIRD: *Shyly.* “And… and maybe your Daddy could give us a new home in his pretty garden.”
LITTLE BEE: “Oh I’m sure he would! He always says that there is always room for one more bear! Even though there are two of you, I’m sure he could find somewhere lovely for you to stay at his house.”
BUMBLE: “Then let us see if we can’t find him together, Little Bee: you, me and Little Ladybird.”
LITTLE BEE: “Oh thank you, Bumble and Little Ladybird! I feel better already!”
LITTLE LADYBIRD: *Smiles shyly.* “That’s good, Little Bee.”
BUMBLE: “Which way did you think you came from, Little Bee?”
LITTLE BEE: “Over there somewhere, Bumble, somewhere beyond the park and the meandering brook.”
BUMBLE: “Then that is the way I will walk, and you will fly. We can stop and rest along the way when you feel tired.”
LITTLE LADYBIRD: *Shyly.* “I get tired quite a lot, because I am only a little girl ladybird bear, you see, Little Bee.”
LITTLE BEE: “Maybe… maybe we can hold each other’s paws for reassurance and strength, Little Ladybird.”
LITTLE LADYBIRD: *Looks down thoughtfully at her black mohair paw.* “Well, I…”
BUMBLE: “I think that is a very lovely idea, don’t you, Little Ladybird?” *Looks seriously at Little Ladybird.*
LITTLE LADYBIRD: “Oh! Oh, alright Little Bee. Thank you.”
BUMBLE: “Good! Let’s go! The first thing I need to work out is how to get over the babbling brook!”
LITTLE BEE: *Offers paw to Little Ladybird.*
BUMBLE, LITTLE LADYBIRD and LITTLE BEE: *Begin the journey looking for Daddy Jesse and his garden together.*

A rather pointless exercise on a restless Friday night. If I sustain one more packing injury, I'll start identifying as a vegetable.
The original plan might have been to showcase a pose by SAPA. But let's put it this way - it's almost 2AM, there was wine, and my brain cell count wasn't that great to begin with - all I have now is a few solitary neurons floating in grape juice. So here we are, and...yeah. No.
Maybe I should already declare myself to be a vegetable.

Northern Parulas rapidly flit and hop primarily through the upper levels of the forest and subcanopy, but during migration they also forage in the understory. They tend to flutter around at the tips of branches quickly plucking insects or reaching out to grab prey. Males are particularly vocal during spring migration.

The Four New Martyrs Church
Four men named Aggelis, Manouil, Georgios and Nikolaos were born and raised in Melabas, Rethymnon. They were all farmers and married men with children. As the island was under Turkish occupation, the four young men were Crypto-Christians, meaning that they were officially Turkish. They had Turkish names and participated in Islamic custom, but in reality they remained faithful to all the traditions of the Orthodox Church. They fought in the Greek war of Independence from 1821 to 1824 and when the Turks recaptured Crete they were no longer afraid to declare their faith.
So during a tax collection campaign among the Christians by the Turks, they declared that they had been Christians all the time and that they were waiting for the moment to unite to Christ in martyrdom.
They were imprisoned in July 1824 and the leader of the Ottoman Turks Mehmet Pasha still tried to persuade them to embrace Islam. Without success and therefore they were beheaded near the Great Gate on October the 28th.
For three days, their bodies remained where they were killed and no one showed any interest. Then finally they were gathered and buried at the monastery of Saint Constantine, called Arkadi. They were honoured as Saints on October the 28th 1837 and their sainthood was confirmed on august the 29th in 1977.
In the Sanctuary of the temple, there is an ossuary where the Holy Skulls of Three of the Four Martyrs are preserved. Another impressive part of the church is the interior, which is adorned by fantastic frescos and icons of the Cretan religious painting school. It looks amazing when the sun is coming in from the spectacular windows.
On the iconostasis, , when you enter the church , is decorated with icons by Fotis Kontoglou, a Byzantine writer and icon-painter. The icons date back to around 1955 and show Jesus Christ, Virgin Mary, John the Baptist and the Four Martyrs.
In the church basement is a spacious lecture room along with the chapel of Saint Savvas the Holy.
Contemplating life, why are we here?
Clinging to existence on this earthly sphere
Sitting by a lake, thinking and wondering
Listening to the sound of the sky thundering
Are humans meant to contaminate the air?
Or strip the forests until they are bare
Are humans meant to kill and to maim?
Is it all part of the evolutionary game?
Maybe there really is an omnipresent god
Looking down, thinking they’re odd
I gave them a lovely planet, full of many wonders
They keep making, such elementary blunders
Like filling the oceans full of nuclear waste
Destroying the ozone layer with indecent haste
Pretending they don't see, others dying of need
Declaring wars, until the earth it does bleed
Contemplating life, why are we here?
Clinging to existence on this earthly sphere
By a lake, that is mysteriously gleaming
I stand contemplating, life's real meaning
Job 22:28

Another year coming: people die, babies born, people gonna buy houses and others will loose their, people gonna get married and others will get divorced, people will go to school and others will drop out of school, people gonna make big money and others will declare bankruptcy, people gonna enjoy living peaceful and others will suffer. Life is a cycle. Bad and good are inseparable. Good luck all & be brave! Happy New Year & embrace everything that life offers you.

Poets write verses on flowers in spring
when skylarks ascend upon the wing,
but buttercups and daisies seem to be
an 'insignificant nonentity'.
These country flowers, so well we know
are nature's queens from the long ago,
waking at dawn... greeting the light,
and at evening glow, saying goodnight.
Yet, trampled upon by you and I,
and taken for granted by most passers by
suffering in silence ~ but nevertheless
they forgive us for our thoughtlessness!
'Buttercups and Daisies' is the song
that we recall from summers long gone;
without these petals, fields would bare,
they are part of our heritage, I do declare.
