Mijo’s birthday will be here soon!
Danny’s intelligence and vitality constantly illuminate my life, even more so when he is here with me. Last year he enthusiastically helped with the Easter decorations for the party we gave. I miss him so much and I look forward to seeing him next month. We will have a wonderful time when you are here, Mijo!!! I love you!!!

Danny Kaye (1911-1987) was an American actor, singer, dancer, comedian and musician. His performances featured physical comedy, idiosyncratic pantomimes and tongue-twisting songs. He left school at the age of 13 to work in the so-called Borscht Belt of Jewish resorts in the Catskill Mountains. It was there he learned the basics of show biz. In 1939, he made his Broadway debut in Straw Hat Revue, but it was the stage production of the musical Lady in the Dark in 1940 that brought him acclaim and notice from agents. Also in 1940, he married Sylvia Fine, who went on to manage his career. Samuel Goldwyn put him in a series of Technicolor musicals, starting with Up in Arms (1944). Kaye starred in 17 movies, notably Wonder Man (1945), The Kid from Brooklyn (1946), The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947), The Inspector General (1949), Hans Christian Andersen (1952), White Christmas (1954) and The Court Jester (1956). His films were popular, especially his performances of patter songs and favorites such as "Inchworm" and "The Ugly Duckling". Later he appeared on TV in The Danny Kaye Show (1963–1967). Kaye was the first ambassador-at-large of UNICEF in 1954 and received the French Legion of Honour in 1986 for his years of work with the organisation.

Stranger #87 – Danny –I met him in downtown Santa Barbara, California. He is Adriana’s friend (Stranger #86) and he showed up during my conversation with her. Danny’s very friendly attitude was obvious the moment we met as he greeted me with a big smile :) Noticing his cool look, I asked for a photo. Danny agreed without hesitation. I took a few pictures and then we chatted a bit and laughed a lot ;) Actually he surprised me because he knows some very simple Polish phrases. It turned out he was growing up in a neighborhood with a strong Polish community and picked up a few lines from other kids. Danny is an extremely chilled guy and it was a pleasure to meet him :)

The words of the well known song came to mind as I waited in the pouring rain to see Bahamas and 44932 dashing by on the WCML near Garstang, following their recent visit to the Severn Valley Autumn Gala.
It was certainly quite a contrast to the weather on my previous post to Flickr just a few days ago!

One of the most celebrated and respected directors of the last quarter century, Danny Boyle has been rightly heaped with kudos and awards for his work in film, television, stage, and even the opening ceremonies of the Olympic games in London in 2012. From getting exactly what he wants from actors, to great cinematography to the use of music in his always-excellent soundtracks, Danny Boyle is the complete package. Boyle did solid TV work in the early '90s (including a couple of great "Inspector Morse" episodes). Then he-along with Ewan McGregor-planted a flag with 1994's fantastic "Shallow Grave". 2 years later, they burst into worldwide consciousness, teaming up again for the film version of Irvine Welsh's "Trainspotting". 2002's "28 Days Later" reinvigorated the entire zombie genre, 2008's "Slumdog Millionaire" was showered with love and Oscars, and Roger Ebert called Boyle's "127 Hours" 'compulsively watchable'. The New York Times called "Steve Jobs" 'a powerful challenge to the lazy conventions of Hollywood storytelling'. Yet despite that resume, he proved himself to be utterly normal, approachable, generous, and quite funny when he and I spent 15 minutes taking English football- specifically his beloved Bury FC and the painful flailings of my Arsenal-while I made this portrait
