My sister and I only ever met Danny Sheehy - Domhnall Mac Síthigh - once.

It was on a boat trip to, and around, the Blasket Islands - the furthest west you can get in Europe before hitting Newfoundland (apologies to those in Iceland and Greenland...).

This particular shot is of Inishtooskert - or An Fear Marbh (The Dead Man) as it's better known - just north of the Blasket Islands. This is a view that most people have never seen - the Fear Marbh with a dagger through his neck. The island to the left is An Tiaraht.

On that trip to the Blaskets and to An Fear Marbh, my sister and I found out that Danny knew my father’s family. For me, that felt pretty weird but Danny knew everybody in North Kerry. He regaled Helen with stories of his time in the area doing, well, pretty well everything that a poet, sailor, boatbuilder, traveller, fisherman could possibly do and know.

A lovely man - taken from us too early.

Danny - this photograph is for you.

Danny is always happy and he has an infectious smile.

Street portrait from Glasgow, Scotland.

An alternative shot from a brief session with Danny in October 2018 while he was waiting for his train after filming for a new children's TV show in Glasgow. All of my 100 Stranger portraits have been memorable and I can remember each and every one of them very clearly - though some, for obvious reasons, are more memorable than others. I can't begin to tell you how pleasant it was to meet Danny. He is such a nice and friendly guy and was genuinely pleased to spend a bit of time with me outside of the train station while I got some shots and while we had a chat.

Wishing you all a fantastic weekend of photography, wherever you are, but please stay safe and take care!

Small boat, small lake, big fish!

Danny: That’s what you think!

I came across Danny outside the Nelson's Head pub in Hastings talking to one of the fishermen I know. I am considering a new project in Hastings photographing people I come across with a view to self publishing a book at the end of the year. What struck me most about Danny was his laugh - it was incredibly loud and incredibly infectious. His nickname is Zu-Zu (although he said it was Za-Za - very confusing!) which Jim, the fisherman said is the noise he makes when he starts to laugh.

I normally like my portraits in monochrome, but because of the limited colour palette, decided to put this out in colour.

Danny is part of my project to photograph 100 strangers www.flickr.com/groups/100strangers/

This is also another submission to the Human Family Group - for more photographs, see: www.flickr.com/groups/thehumanfamily/

This is another one from my shoot with Dpiz. Because I don't have a polarizer or a grad ND I composited the sky with another shot that was exposed for detail in the clouds. Shortly after this the po-lease came and kicked us off the premises.

What do you stand for?

*Quote from Between The Lines off The Ghost Inside's newest album, one of the most inspirational bands around.

Danny is a really good friend of mine. He plays in a band from London, Ontario called Lifeboat and he plays guitar. Danny has two dogs, the hound/doberman is named Milton and the golden retriever is Dawson. He found both dogs on the side of the road at two different times, Dawson being just recently, and he decided to keep them and give them a loving home. Danny is nothing short of one of the nicest dudes I know and is always there for people.

Danny is always one for staying positive, once he heard the series i was doing to raise awareness of the teen suicides recently, he was more than excited to help out.

L to R: Flex Mentallo, Maura Lee Karupt, Danny the Brick, and Dorothy Spinner

Some updates to these characters since the last time I posted them.

Flex is basically the same, this time with vambraces.

Maura Lee, basically a whole new figure as the only thing that stayed from last time is the jacket piece and the head. Really like how this one turned out.

Danny is definitely one of the most complex builds I have ever made. If you guys want instructions on this crazy build, let me know.

Dorothy is another whole new figure and I’m really happy with how she looks. This figure is sort of a mix between her show look and her comic look, with just a touch of originality.

You showed great thoughtfulness, generosity, humility, and creativity. A kind-hearted soul, I will truly miss your words, and mails. Bless you, my friend.

Danny was on the northeast corner of Randolph and Michigan. He's been out here for about five years. He sleeps on the train. "I was incarcerated when I was 11. I got out about six years ago. They talk about paying your debt to society", as he shook his head, "you never pay it off". He said he learned his lesson, but it's hard getting back into society. "Don't judge a book by it's cover", he said, "I will work". The challenge right now is to find housing and get an ID.
