I first visited Svartifoss back in March 2012, but hadn't been for a few years, so decided to do the short uphill walk to see it again. When I first went it was possible to clamber over the rocks and get right up underneath the basalt columns, but with the influx of visitors the flora was getting damaged and now it's strictly one path in and out. This means that the options for composition are limited, but it's for the best. Hopefully with the lack of tourists in the past year it will have recovered a bit, and will continue to do so.
This tiny Bullfrog (~1.5inch) seemed to have damaged one of its eyes. It was seen along the Meadowbrook at the Los Angeles County Arboretum
Though this part of the road was not underwater during recent heavy rainfall, the shoulder became a real mess due to lots of running water going downhill. The water ended up undercutting the pavement. I called the authorities when I discovered this unsafe situation.
Looking Close... on Friday: Damaged
Story time! When I was a teenaged, I collected cats in all forms (figurines, statuettes, books, pictures, toys...), which I displayed in a three-level bookshelf. One evening, we heard a terrible crash and we rushed to my bedroom, only to discover that the middle shelf had somehow tumbled forward, pulling along its contents... meaning most of the porcelain and ceramic cats. My mother and I spent hours in the next days gluing the pieces together, more or less successfully depending on the damage. Some only have hairline breaks, while others, like this cute little plaster kitten, still bear very visible marks of the accident. Oh, and I don't remember how the blue ceramic bowl got broken, but I love its colour so I kept it, just like I kept the cat because it's still very cute. The poor little cat narrowly missed more damage when a certain Pixie got interested in my photo shoot and tried to capture the prop, but I was fast enough to stop him.

Recent fledgling has severely damaged tail. It was walking for a day and a half on trails and grass. It was spotted late yesterday in this tree.
Today it was calling for its parents for hours and then took a short flight to another tree.
Very cloudy

Illustrium Poetarum Flores, by Octavianus Mirandola, 1599
This book one of my most prized possessions, a gift from a friend a long time ago. Recently I had it restored (you can see that the wormholes have been covered with (acid-free) tissue paper).
Leary, Georgia. One of thousands of damaged or destroyed buildings after tornadoes devastated south Georgia on two different occasions in January 2017.
Remnants of last year's weather and flood damage to our local community walking trail in rural Nova Scotia. The section of the walkway in the middle simply lifted off the upright supports and floated to shore. Damages well into higher 6 figures says the contract crew working on repairs deeper down the trail.
When he feels like he should be having his fun
Much too blind to see the damage he's done
Sometimes a man must awake to find that, really,
He has no-one...
My first shoot with Caroline was kind of a gift that keeps on giving. So many photos I'm happy with. That was a good day.

Tiny stone kicked up by truck on highway in July of 2020 was the cause. Was professionally repaired the next day. Seems that even repaired, a piece of the stone remains. But no problems with it since repair. Photo size is 1.062"w, 1.044" h.

Painted in 1998 with Kaper in Phoenix, Az. , caught by the Homie, Alamo in Minnesota 2010. Thanks for the flic. A little sun damaged and fading but still there. I guess this wasn't the first time either that he's caught this car. That's pretty cool to think of all the places that the piece has probably seen in it's days. I may be over-romanticizing it but it does make you wonder........
The night we painted this was a pretty cool night with a smooth breeze. A perfect night for painting. Unlike the daytime temperatures that were clearly in the low 100's. The yard spot was in an industrial area within the center of the city. It was completely dead and was full of line after line of Hoppers and BN ridgies, no boxcars though. So we grabbed the next best thing. I remember kind of being a little let down thinking, "Shit, I could paint these back home." Either way, I was just glad to be rocking with the Desert King, Kaper. This all took place after learning of each others existance and having a mutual respect for each other as writers on the lines. We got in contact with each other the old fashioned way. We traded flicks by sending packages to each other and built up a relationship as friends. Something that used to take quite a bit of time back in the nineties. Something that now can be obtained with a few clicks on a computer. It's pretty cool to see how things have changed. Seriously and I know that this is going to date me but to all you young writers out there, you have to imagine NO Internet. There was the internet, just noone really knew how to use it. Email and chat rooms and places like Flickr, were a distant innovation and guys like me didn't grow up with computers as real learning tools in school. I actually got Kaper's address and phone number from another writer that I was trading photos with in Cali. It was a pretty cool thing to do, go visit a new city and paint with a complete stranger that you have never even seen his face. The first time I met Kaper I was chilling at a local meeting spot in Tempe. He approached me and we ended up going to Hooters and downing a few pitchers of beers and talking graff while looking at some ass for a couple hours. It was good and we pretty much hit it off. The next time I met up with him, his whole NG crew of homies were there. Some real cool cats. We all kicked it at this pub and got up in each others sketch books. It was a good night. Kaper and I ended up painting one more Fr8 together on that trip and a wall with a bunch of writers from Phoenix and LA on the outskirts of town. We lost touch over time and I haven't really talked to him in over ten years. I hope to make it back out to Phoenix someday soon and hopefully crush a few cars with him again. Seeing this photo, really brings me back to that time, plus knowing that my piece has survived 12 plus years of service, makes me feel good. Thanks again, Alamo for the photo and thanks Kaper for the memories.
probably not so much HFF for these home owners.
i suspect this was not snowplow damage since directly across the street there is one HUGE tree limb that has been cut up into very large pieces
One of my first mushrooms this year, I lay stretched to the ground when a gentleman asked if things were going well for me :-))
I told him laughing that everything was OK, and that this was my first mushroom of the year and thanked him for his concern.....:)

...but still distinctive.
It’s a jungle out there, flying around the butterfly exhibit, and with wings as big as these, it’s not surprising that they sometimes get damaged, I guess.
I’m uncertain what kind of butterfly this is. Though its coloring and underside wing markings are similar to those of the common morpho, they are different from the photos of morphos that I have seen. Further, this butterfly has blue markings on its body, while photos of morphos generally show reddish body markings. Any ID help is welcome.
This shot was taken at a recent butterfly exhibit at Dow Gardens, in Midland, Michigan, and is submitted for the Textural Tuesday group.
HTT!
Thanks to smfmi for an ID! I'm pretty sure it's an owl butterfly. I checked several images and the markings are very similar.
