January 29, 2024 - Red Cross volunteers are conducting damage assessments for the San Diego homes affected by storms and flooding.
During damage assessment, volunteers go door-to-door and document the extent of damage to property. The information collected during these assessments guides the Red Cross, government agencies and other nonprofits as they begin issuing assistance to those impacted.
Typically, carpenter bees do not cause serious structural damage to wood unless large numbers of bees are allowed to drill many tunnels over successive years. The bees often eliminate their wastes before entering the tunnel. Yellowish-brown staining from voided fecal matter may be visible on the wood beneath the hole as seen in the picture above. Woodpeckers may damage infested wood in search of bee larvae in the tunnels. In the case of thin wood, such as siding, this damage can be severe. Holes on exposed surfaces may lead to damage by wood-decaying fungi or attack by other insects, such as carpenter ants.

Many branches on our apple trees are this damaged. Doesn't look like we'll get much of a harvest this year.

I was NOT a happy customer of the post office today. I received a package from Ultra Sabers -- a specialty lightsaber I wanted to take along with me on our upcoming MediaWest*Con trip. This was the condition the box was in when it arrived. Fortunately, the contents were NOT damaged. But that was surprising, considering what shape the package was in.

I'm not sure why the white pine endured the worst damage of all, but bar none there were more white pines that got trashed than anything else. I've begun pruning out the damaged limbs to restore these trees.
These Camellias got damaged by some freezing weather we had awhile back. One of the pitfalls in growing them in this area of the south as say opposed to Charleston which is like 2 zones warmer. But damage has been minimal this year as we have had generally a mild winter - -- so far.
These are big pinks one in my yard. They are either more sensitive, or perhaps of their light color, shows the damge more. Lot of the flowers in tight bud don't get damaged and if weather warms they can open for another good show.
Rip the shingles -- 6 feet on each side of gusset/valley
Install recovery board 15 feet long 6 feet on each side (1/8 inch)
Place based sheet down, and install cap sheep
IW sheild the rest of the roof where cap sheet doesn’t cover
Reshingle whole area
Damage to the old trestle bridge that runs by our road in the aftermath of The Great Flood of 2010. Note that a large chunk of the bridge is totally washed away.
