Seen as a medical miracle to help women with pregnancy issues and a dependable source of steady income for pharmaceutical companies, Diethylstilbestrol (DES) was given to millions of women around the world. It was meant to be a wonder drug for expecting moms but its devastating impacts are now hitting their daughters and sons, decades later. Diethylstilbestrol was considered safe and effective for both mothers and their developing babies until the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advised physicians in 1971 to discontinue prescribing diethylstilboestrol in pregnant women because of its link to a rare vaginal cancer.

Unedited shot of the Bulldog Coffeeshop in Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

Amsterdam is world-famous for many things, the most obvious being of course Sex, Drugs and raw Fish....ehm, wait, raw Fish?! Yes, that's right! There are about 35609907 'Haring' stands all over the best city in the world, and you are expected to go there and pay for being given a piece of raw fish covered with raw onions, tilt you head back in a 45 degree angle and swallow that baby in 2 or less bites. Yes, you've heard me right, we expect you to wolf down raw fish covered with raw onions, and you're supposed to enjoy it AND pay for it! Why would we do something so horrible to you? Simple, to avoid that you dare walking up to the pretty girls sitting in the windows, because let's be honest, who has the nerves to walk up to any girl, anywhere, smelling like a dead fish that rolled around in onion-juice for a couple of days?! Nobody, that's who! I have a theory that the working girls made a deal with the fish guys to errect one of their smelly stands on every corner in Amsterdam, just to make sure that their chances of actually having to sleep with you are minimized to about 0.000001%, hahahaha :D

I sincerely apologize to all fish-fans and the Prostitutes in Amsterdam, I don't mean to diss you, I'm just in a cocky mood today, please forgive me, thanks, lol :D

Have a wonderful week :)

It's hard to take a picture of your favorite drug.

I had almost eaten it.

The drug and pharmaceutical companies are making a lot of money. Do you think it's right to charge so much. Some people would argue that the profit leads to further R+D. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Like much of our work, we have put all these images in the public domain. Feel free to use them but please credit out site as the source if you do: TaxRebate.org.uk

I've photographed a LOT of Rafaelas over the years. This is the nice, non-grifter type.

The back alleys of Fort Madison, Iowa. The drug store is long gone.

the prescription bottles are lengths cut from reusable smoothie straws (they're basically nice strong hard plastic)

printed labels from image search and attached with double sided tape

sealed the bottoms with heatmold plastic & made lids with card stock and double sided tape because with heatmold plastic that was too difficult to get it neat-looking

the stuff in the evidence bag is nail art beads

the fentanyl patches are just paper labels doubled and taped on the inside

Our Daily Challenge: Companion

All right so drugs and alcohol don't really go together but it seems like you always hear about them together. So for todays challenge drugs and alcohol are my companion of choice...not that I'm gonna take these together but you know what I mean.

What you see here wouldn't get you high at all. Jack Daniels might give you a little buzz but the pills are all heartburn related.

Drug Side Effects:

A side effect is usually regarded as an undesirable secondary effect which occurs in addition to the desired therapeutic effect of a drug or medication. Side effects may vary for each individual depending on the person's disease state, age, weight, gender, ethnicity and general health.

Side effects can occur when commencing, decreasing/increasing dosages, or ending a drug or medication regimen. Side effects may also lead to non-compliance with prescribed treatment. When side effects of a drug or medication are severe, the dosage may be adjusted or a second medication may be prescribed. Lifestyle or dietary changes may also help to minimize side effects.

Colonial Drugs was the site of a 1960 sit in to end segregation in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in Orange County. It is on West Franklin Street. The building no longer houses a drug store. It is now an event space, The Story.

I found this border in an old cross stitch sampler book. It was filed under "in the kitchen racks", between fruit bowls and tea kettles. I instantly thought of a 60s desparate house wife, storing her drugs in the spice rack.

Salina, Utah

I shot this picture in 1991, before having a chocolate malt. The Salina Drug Store opened in 1952. Sadly, it closed and became a NAPA Auto Parts store. I wonder what happened to all of the fixtures.

Shifty business, I hope to upload my trailer park stuff soon.
