How diaphanous the sun's veil,

one might think, how amber,

how feverish, but cold at the core,

swollen to term. A wave of shadow

ripples farewell, a fog

the mind can't dissipate, a sleep

the next pandemic sleeps, in a cocoon of light.

Travel farther to the sheered cliffs

of the occipital realm: phantom birds issue

from fissures, flit branch to branch, memory swallows,

flickers, swift, iridescent yellow flashes mid-flight in trans-

migration, an ebbing electrical storm, a vector Lady Die

is center of. Missionary, she doesn't bite,

but slips her needle in a vein with so little

intrigue, fey

when need be, so up to her usual

dominatrix capades:

who knows? Under her black velvet shroud,

teeming, secreting, stagnantly foul, her babies --

three hundred hatchlings a litter -- are testing

their papery wings,

passing upward, borne again and again

each malarial queen;

how she escapes

is a marvel of detection, truly, to behold, as is

to be held, lovingly,

for a few moments

in her six gentle arms.

Beyond DreamTime

'When You're In My Wonder'.

You didn’t come and didn’t leave.

You weren’t, you won’t be, you are.

Everything and nothing.

Timeless and formless.

Without beginning, without an end.

Northern Territory - Uluru/Ayers Rock

Uluru is one of Australia's most recognisable natural landmarks. The sandstone formation stands 348 m high, rising 863 m above sea level with most of its bulk lying underground, and has a total circumference of 9.4 km. Both Uluru and the nearby Kata Tjuta formation have great cultural significance for the Aṉangu people, the traditional inhabitants of the area, who lead walking tours to inform visitors about the local flora and fauna, bush food and the Aboriginal dreamtime stories of the area.

Uluru is notable for appearing to change colour at different times of the day and year, most notably when it glows red at dawn and sunset.

Uluru is sacred to the Pitjantjatjara Anangu, the Aboriginal people of the area. The area around the formation is home to an abundance of springs, waterholes, rock caves and ancient paintings. Uluru is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Uluru and Kata Tjuta, also known as the Olgas, are the two major features of the Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park.

The Dreamtime story of the black swans tells how two brothers were turned into white swans so they could help an attack party during a raid for weapons. It is said that Wurrunna used a large gubbera, or crystal stone, to transform the men. After the raid, eaglehawks attacked the white swans and tore feathers from the birds. Crows who were enemies of the eaglehawks came to the aid of the brothers and gave the black swans their own black feathers. The Black Swan's red beak is said to be the blood of the attacked brothers, which stayed there forever.

One of the major purposes of traditional Aboriginal dancing was to tell stories, which were passed down through generations. These stories would be about the land, animals, dreamtime, and Aboriginal people. It is quite common for Aboriginal dance to incorporate imitations of certain animals, to assist in the storytelling and bring the dreamtime to life.

Barely dawn on January 1st of 2008!

Clouds over Lake Michigan and trees casting off their leaves create a dream-like image. It is said many people dream in black and white. I think I am one of those...

We are in the middle of Hot summer days right now, so my dream time consists of swimming pools, Ice cream and vodka on ice in no particular order !

Where ever you are I hope the weather is treating you kindly

The full Moon and the Milky Way over the mountains of Torridon in the North West Highlands of Scotland from Suilven, with the night mists flowing over Cul Mòr and Cul Beag. Taken from Caisteal Liath (The Grey Castle), Suilven's highest peak on an overnight wild camp. Temperatures were freezing and winds at 30mph/50kph, so it was hard to sleep - what else was there to do but photograph the moon and the stars?

This is a blend of two images at different exposures at different times due to the huge difference in light. One was taken before the moon rose, the other after.

Dreams are most vivid close to dawn.....

Overexposed and perhaps over-processed, nonetheless I quite like this long exposure.

Le Mont Saint-Michel, Normandy, France

In the beginning, there was an island and upon that island was Le Mont; an Armorican stronghold founded by an Irish monk in the dreamtime between the fall of the Roman Empire and the creation of British and European nation states. This was a time before the French, before the Normans; a time of Britons - or Bretons - who settled the Atlantic facing peninsulas of the mainland from Cornwall, Wales and Ireland. Away from the crowds, memory of the Celtic dreamtime endures at Mont St Michel, as if a fairytale castle at the edge of the sea.
