Dreamtime Nature Photography

Digitally manipulated analog paper collage. Inspired by and dedicated to the highly creative Paul Ewing.

The worn, ancient mountain ranges of the Australian desert over 800 million years old, covered by sea for 300 million years. Makes you realise how tiny we are in the scheme of things. This range is west of the beautiful Flinders Ranges we visited in 2014 - I have an urge to go back. I think I get the "dreamtime " when I experience places like this.

Many thanks for your visits, faves and comments. Cheers. Impression of a ghost gum forest on the Alice River.

Corymbia aparrerinja (syn. Eucalyptus papuana var. aparrerinja) commonly known as Ghost Gum, is an evergreen tree that is native to Central Australia.

It grows up to 20 metres in height and has smooth, white to cream and pink-tinged bark, which sheds seasonally in thin scales. White flowers appear in summer and the fruit are woody brown goblet shaped, valved capsules. The tree features in aboriginal Dreamtime stories and gained prominence with the wider public in the 20th century through the paintings of aboriginal artist Albert Namatjira.[1] Ghost Gum occurs in arid areas on rocky slopes, red sand flats and dry creek beds. It is found predominantly in the south of the Northern Territory, extending to the west just over the border into Western Australia and extending to the east into central Queensland, including a separate occurrence on red earth.[1] In the western parts of central Queensland the species intergrades with Corymbia dallachiana, a species with which it was once lumped as C. papuana.

Parts of this tree were used by Indigenous Australians to treat colds.[2]

In 1891 in Barcaldine, Queensland, a Ghost Gum, known as the Tree of Knowledge, was the focal point of a gathering of striking sheep shearers, a key event leading to the formation of the Australian Labor Party.

Ahhh that sweet smell and feel of the sea and air. Is always a great place to sit and think...well as much thinking as one can do as you look for a comp in a small amount of time.

Thanks for looking

Uluru - Ayers Rock

Tjukurrpa - is a complex concept. It is usually translated as "the Dreaming". The term also refers to the relationships and interdependence of all creatures and the land. Tjukurpa is also a collection of stories, knowledge and laws.

The Australian Aboriginal Dreamtime is essentially a creation myth. However it is also a lot more than that. Dreamtime is not just myth, legend or religion. It permeates all aspects of Aboriginal thought and has a profound effect on their world-view.

Uluru Northern Territory Australia (Ayers rock)

The road through Jedidiah Smith Redwood State Park is about six miles long. It is a dirt road, quite narrow, which cuts through what is described as the densest stand of trees in the world. Whether or not that claim is true, it is the most spectacular woods I have ever seen. The trees are giants; they surround you, tower over you, and give comfort, exuding a long-lived wisdom. They are so mesmerizing it took us three plus hours to traverse the six miles.

They are so massive it is hard to give a true idea of their size. This is me, standing beside the remains of one of the fallen giants. For perspective I am 5'2":-)
