"after a lengthy battle with a lack of inspiration and far too many distractions, i realised that the inability to make any art was all i could think of.
so i visualised it and painted it"
art by steve fable and the beginning of the "inspiration" and " distractions" plushes :)

Years ago (and I mean YEARS ago), I worked with a woman who lived in a very wealthy suburb of Chicago. Daddy was the chairman of a bank or something. She was planning her wedding and was sharing some of the details with me. I asked her where she was going to have it. "Oh, in our ballroom."
I did a double take. "You have a ballroom? In your house?" Yes, she said a little sheepishly. This isn't the house, but this picture reminded me of that story.
I've never known anyone else who had a freakin' ballroom in their house.

At the edge of the road, Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge,
Glenn Co., California
Per Cornell's Birds of the World: "Injury-Feigning Display [often with wings spread more as well] -- to lead predators away from a nest." While we WERE on the roadway, I assume there was a nest nearby.
When I start to edit, I am really, really, really concentrated... but hey, there's always ways to distract me - and T. is one of my favorite ones 😁
With early morning light pouring in through the windows, the crew of 8A propel it forward with a burst of steam towards the doors at the front of the running shed on the day of the railway's 119th birthday.
but the phone is calling
(no worries..there were two of them. between them there were eyes on the surf )
The mass invasion of smartphones into our daily life is something I have mixed feelings about sometimes. On one hand, it has made our lives easier with GPS map finding and mobile photography. On the flip side, the social interaction betwen one person and another has become somewhat distant with everyone seemingingly obessed with looking down on their own phones. Maybe this is the future beholding us...
Killdeer
Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge, CA
Killdeer are known for their “broken wing” act to distract predators away from their nest and young. But to guard against large hooved animals such as cows and horses from stomping on their nests, Killdeer use a different technique - they will raise their tail feathers over their head and run at the beast in an attempt to make the beast change its path.
When this Killdeer raised its tail feathers over its head, I thought it was shading itself from the sun. But after reading their defense display for beasts in Cornell’s Cool Facts, I wondered if this Killdeer considered my vehicle a beast. It didn’t run at the vehicle but did continue a variety of elaborate displays, this shot being my favorite.
The distraction displays of Killdeers may work on predators, but they end up being attraction displays for photographers!
A visit to the Botanic Garden of Singapore has been a rewarding day. The distraction swirl of the air plant gives a nice twist of distraction to the main subject. Fuji XT3 and Voigtlander 35mm F2 Ultron Macro

Sorry about deleting the initial post but even though I liked the scene it was somewhat lame!!! This is what I was focused on when the little momma surfaced next to the canoe! This is the best I could do on a dismally gray morning!! Photo taken on Horsepen Bayou in alligator alley of one of our year-round Greenie residents!!

More of my girl's eyes with a proper macro lens for the first time ever. Also, I can Photoshop out the reflection of my lighting rig, which was always a distraction.
Even though my left arm has been bothering me this winter, and this is heavy work. Draging the winch wire up that steep ascent to the fence on the top is pretty heavy, but a lot more so when you sink knee deep in the snow. This day the snowcrust carried both me and the tractor, and so it was a lot less effort to drag the 10mm vire up there.
I might never get rich as a farmer, and there might be long days. At the moment I need about 7 hours a day to do the work in the barn, 7 days a week. I can manage it at about 6 when Mette help me in the evenings, but I usually use the same time as I then shear a cow or two (yes, I do shear the cows and heifers as it is easier to keep them clean, not to keep them cool as this fellow do www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&sca_esv=f405... ) remove some old silage, or do something else in the time I save with her help. This was a long distraction, my point is that I might not be rich as a farmer, but I know no-one that have a better job most of the time. And then, as everyone else, I have days that are hard and frustrating. Mostly when the animals are sick, get lost, or the crop fails. It is frustrating and expencive.
So there isn't that many hours a day left for other kinds of work. And this winter had so much dry snow for so long, so it was hard to get into the pastures with the tractor to clear pastures and cut some firewood. But finally, after a periode of rain and then some good frost it was perfect.
I have been away from Flickr for a while. My mother in law got a stroke some time back, and after about two weeks we lost her. As I said in the funeral, I might be special, but I loved my mother in law. She lived just 10 minutes from us, so we had much contact. Mette visited her most days on her way home from work. We feel the loss.
At the same time we have thrown out our old bathroom and built a new. Not me, we hire people for the job as you hardly can do anything legally. It was supposed to take two weeks, last Thursday it was three weeks without shower. We now have water and all the building is done, and tomorrow we get the electrician. So I hope we then get lights and warmth there too. Then there is just the shower walls that lack, they will take some time as they have to be built to fit our room.
So I haven't had the time, nor the motivation, to be part of Flickr lately. I hope to return soon, but I fear I will have to have short visits in the start to catch up with all of you. Sorry for that.
There are a few more photos in the first comment.
I was standing alone, not sure of what I really wanted to do with my camera. I needed a distraction, an opportunity to understand, to realize...none, but myself. It needed some self admittance that I was willing to look for flaws in a system that I believed were governed by principles of fairness. I am flawed, I just needed some courage. This photograph was taken a few days ago. I didn't like it as much. When I looked at it today, I liked it. I liked my flaws. They were nice to have. They made me feel who I am. As the Sun set, dark clouds welcomed a what was to be torrential and stormy evening. I noticed this solitary bird flying towards a mass of dark clouds, fearless in its journey, with a solitary objective to reach home. I sincerely wished the bird a safe passage...in its flight there was left behind some courage for me to pick up...
Cell of your mind?

And the old prison food

Cause anything's better than posh isolation
