Numbers of this stunning bird are sadly on the decline, so it was nice to see them still doing well locally.

Looking up at the Corto Maltese parvis in Bordeaux, I was immediately drawn to the strong geometric shapes and clean lines. I positioned myself to capture these diagonal elements against the dark sky, creating this stark contrast between structure and void.

The black and white processing felt natural for this image - it strips away distractions and emphasizes the graphic quality of the architecture. I'm always fascinated by how modern buildings can become almost abstract when viewed from certain angles.

What caught my eye were those small rectangular openings arranged in that interesting pattern on the facade. They add a subtle rhythm to what could otherwise be a simple composition of lines.

I enjoy finding these moments in urban spaces where functional architecture reveals itself as something more artistic and sculptural. This perspective transforms a public space into something that feels both powerful and elegant at the same time.

Osprey, about half mile from its nest, family waiting for food delivery, and this guy's looking at the scenery.

I drive past this massive old barn nearly every day. Day, night, winter, summer, through an endless variety of sky, could and lighting conditions. Unlike places you visit only once, such as when traveling, I tend to hold off photographing local places until conditions are perfect. Such was the case recently; the sky was heavy with thick, textured layers of clouds. I wandered out into the meadow to a vantage point near the barn. But now that I was finally here, I found myself oddly disinterested in the barn itself. Yes it was cool, but I was profoundly taken with the sensation that comes with being out in open country like this. Particularly large expanses of farm fields. The wind was sweeping across the field, blowing the grass in very distinct waves. I could actually visualize the movement of wind. I took many photos, but decided it best to allow the barn to recede a bit and let the grass dominate the foreground. It's all about scale and trying to capture how it felt to be standing here.

The Black Falcons are transporting a chest of gold when they come upon a bard and two fair maidens. Mesmerized by the maidens they fail to realize that it is just a distraction planned by the forestmen, who quickly empty the chest into their bags and return to their hiding place under the bridge.

I enjoy just walking around our beautiful city looking for interesting angels and point of views. So much to photograph when taking the time to observe and focus on seeing. Not always easy with many distractions around you. When walking along the waterfront I noticed this interesting roof structure on a popular restaurant/bar. I like the simple symmetry and organic looking structures. I bet the patrons were wondering what I was photographing at the time as several of them were attempting to 'pose for the photographer' (but no such luck). Funny.

This Killdeer (Charadrius vociferous) is leading me away from the nest by letting the predator (me) think that there is an easy meal to be had in the form of an injured Killdeer. Oakville, Ontario

Week 24 - Distractions

Finding distractions by arranging little bouquets

of 'New Dawn' roses and Alchemilla mollis from the garden ...

My sweet Moesj,

This is the student section during an opponent's free throw at the basketball game we attended. A whole lot of distraction going on.

Romance has got to be one of the most fun and least executed activities in many relationships. With all the distractions we have in our busy lives, it seems many couples never find the time to be romantic, but that can lead to love’s demise.

Romance is about getting closer. There is also a big difference between sex and romance. In most relationships, if you want the former to be great, you have to fully engage in the latter.

Romance needs to be a constant in your universe. Being romantic is not much work, and savoring romantic moments will actually strengthen your bond. Maveryck Breen

View On Black

There are so many beautiful roadside "distractions" in Iceland as your drive along Route One. One has to be careful to keep the eyes on the road or hire a chauffeur to do the driving for you.

These falls are just off the side of the road in the south of Iceland near the village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. I am not sure if they have a name. We drove past them so many times, it was finally time to stop by and take some photos.

...........sometimes the smallest thing, a small pebble in your shoe, can cause the biggest distraction, can throw you off your train of thought, can change your mood entirely, can make you wish you were somewhere else..............

Home from being away a fair while and delighted to find a fishing spider has taken up residence by the freshwater pond/habitat that I built.

This species Dolomedes facetus (known commonly as the clever or crafty fishing spider), hunts beside the water, on the water surface and can also dive for small fish and insects. What a talented creature.

Main prey are fish, tadpoles and aquatic insects.

Fascinating to watch and it's already proving a far greater distraction than unpacking the suitcases.

Body length around 10 mm.

Scattered Distractions contrast black and white tree looks like a Rorschach test, shot in North Carolina Scattered Distractions .

She looked up in the sky on her way out that night and spotted a star. Out of habit she began to recite under her breath:

"Star light, star bright...

first star I see tonight..."

She stopped.

The star had disappeared.

Where had it gone?

Later that evening she feigned interest but heard very little of the conversations around her, instead consumed with thoughts of disappearing stars and lost wishes.
