Aquarelle et fusain, réhauts de gouache, sur fond acrylique
When we were discussing options for this year's autumn hiking adventure, it almost seemed like there was nothing left in northern Scandinavia that we all still wanted to explore. However, after some discussions, we realized that Finnish Lapland might be an interesting and convenient location for our regular autumn outdoor pursuits.
After conducting some research and planning, we narrowed our focus to Finland's northwest, bordering Sweden and Norway. More specifically, we honed in on the Käsivarsi Wilderness Area, which happens to be the second-largest wilderness area in Finland.
-----
Käsivarsi is somewhat atypical for Finland due to its higher elevation (Finland's highest peak, Halti (1,324m), is located in its northern tip), rugged terrain, and limited wooded areas. This combination sounded particularly attractive to us because it meant we would hike across various types of landscapes, both on and off marked trails.
Our itinerary was as follows: Kilpisjärvi/Saana mountain -> Tshahkaljärvi lake -> Siktagurajohka river -> Meekonjärvi lake including trip to Pitsusköngäs waterfall -> Porojärvi lake including ascent of Saivaara cliff -> Guhturgurajávri/Termisjärvi lakes -> Ailakkajärvi lake -> Kilpisjärvi.

It was that time of the year once again...
The famous Elken warrior R.N.R.* Rudolph, who led the Great Reindeer Revolution that overthrew the malicious regime of the reigning Santa Claus, was gathering his elves and santas to go on his annual destructive rampage across the Urtican Planes.
Throughout the year Rudolph makes a list of the Urticans, categorizing them according to their behavior: the nice Urticans will become a bacon-wrapped turkey** and the naughty ones a lump of coal. In the head...
Unfortunately, due to a computational error*** the threshold for being nice has been set way too high, so practically all Urticans are being classified as naughty.
So beware Urticans, Rudolph is on his way and his sack is full of coal!
Hit Urticans with lumps of co-al.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
'Tis the season to be jolly.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!

As for the sleigh: ironically enough, the lead Santa of the sleigh was chosen to be the rebellious S-ain't-a Claus, who has been dishonorably discharged after the great fiasco of 2015, where he forgot to show up on his only working day of the year due to a heated darts game with his buddies in the local pub. He has been charged with the horrendous crime of "Bros before Ho-ho-hos" and he pleaded guilty.
Just like R.N.R. Rudolph, he also has a red nose, but in his case it is not genetical, but a result of his excessive consume of mulled wine.

***: the Elken are not great in arithmetic calculations because they can't write the numbers down and, unlike human with a total of 20 fingers and toes, only have two hooves on each foot

They had been discussing building a nest, but it was, after all, still winter. They didn't have any little Robin calendars or smart phones to guide them; so they just perched on the fence, with some trepidation, to watch and wait for the coming snow.

From our archive: Old queen Milly often hissed at Snow White, but the sweet princess did not have to prove herself, so she just calmly looked back at her.

Whenever I start discussing a matter with someone on Flickr, it always ends with me buying something.
Harman Phoenix 200 colour negative still film, made in the UK, and Orwo NC 500, which somewhat confusingly is an ISO 400 film, derived from motion picture film stock. This is also repackaged and sold as Ilfocolor 400. My plan is to shoot both with my Nikon F5 at exactly the nominal ISO rating and see how it goes.
My experience with cine film stock is rather mixed. I find Silbersalz 500T and 250T, both to be developed with the ECN2 process, absolutely glorious.
Now several makers scrape the remjet layer off cine film so it can be developed with C41. This never convinced me. The remjet layer is there for a reason. Remove it and you get effects that I find unpleasant, such as halation. The Phoenix is a still film, and Orwo is not produced so crudely, so they should be OK. We'll see.
Neither is based on Kodak stock, which is the whole point. I want to see some competition in the colour film market rather than Kodak reigning supreme, now that apparently the survival of analogue film is more likely than it still appeared a few years ago.

Noctilux 50mm f0.95, Sony A9, Tech Art Pro LM-EA7. Probably the only combination to get a picture like that. You have to set f stop to 25 to shoot with this combination but the actual f stop on Nocti was of course 0.95. Rather difficult to shoot with this set up, but the dreamy, creamy pictures that come out make it all worth it.

Discussion entre deux amis :
the director shows this to the photographer. oh boy. from the same person who hates pink! the photographer loathes this shot...the color, the symmetry, the navy blue, and the light? bigger and brighter, always trying to upstage everyone....light may be key but it is not God.
