The emperor's new clothes

song by Sinead O'Conner

It seems like years since you held the baby

While I wrecked the bedroom

You said it was dangerous after Sunday

And I knew you loved me

He thinks I just became famous

And that's what messed me up

But he's wrong

How could I possibly know what I want

When I was only twenty-one?

And there's millions of people

To offer advice and say how I should be

But they're twisted

And they will never be any influence on me

But you will always be

You will always be

If I treated you mean

I really didn't mean to

But you know how it is

And how a pregnancy can change you

I see plenty of clothes that I like

But I won't go anywhere nice for a while

All I want to do is just sit here

And write it all down and rest for a while

I can't bear to be in another city

One where you are not

I would return to nothing without you

If I'm your girlfriend or not

Maybe I was mean

But I really don't think so

You asked if I'm scared

And I said so

Everyone can see what's going on

They laugh `cause they know they're untouchable

Not because what I said was wrong

Whatever it may bring

I will live by my own policies

I will sleep with a clear conscience

I will sleep in peace

Maybe it sounds mean

But I really don't think so

You asked for the truth and I told you

Through their own words

They will be exposed

They've got a severe case of

The emperor's new clothes

The emperor's new clothes

The emperor's new clothes

The emperor's new clothes

a fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen

A short tale about two weavers who promise an Emperor a new suit of clothes that is invisible to those who are unfit for their positions, stupid, or incompetent. When the Emperor parades before his subjects in his new clothes, no one dares to say that he doesn't see any suit of clothes until a child cries out, "But he isn't wearing anything at all!"

The trees in the sunset came first, but the upper sky and foreground needed help. From similar pictures I took that day I added the water and clouds. Then came the birds, and after I played around with the color and contrast. This is the result.

Created for Mixmaster 13 in the Artistic Manipulation Group following Chef Beth's recipe:

➤ Your image must be a pure, non-representational abstract.

➤ It may NOT contain any recognizable objects or beings. Note: it may be digital art from a blank canvas and/or a photo manipulation, as long as the subject of the photo is not recognizable in the final result.

➤ Your image must convey/embody an emotion.

➤ The title of your image must be a quotation that includes the name of whatever emotion you have chosen.

➤ Your image must use three distinct colors/hues (besides black and white which are optional). Note: light, medium and dark blue are NOT distinct hues; blue, green and purple are.

This abstract started as a blank grey canvass to which I added layers of texture, and purple, blue and green paint using brushes in Photoshop Elements 13.

The texture layers are my own.

When we were discussing options for this year's autumn hiking adventure, it almost seemed like there was nothing left in northern Scandinavia that we all still wanted to explore. However, after some discussions, we realized that Finnish Lapland might be an interesting and convenient location for our regular autumn outdoor pursuits.

After conducting some research and planning, we narrowed our focus to Finland's northwest, bordering Sweden and Norway. More specifically, we honed in on the Käsivarsi Wilderness Area, which happens to be the second-largest wilderness area in Finland.

-----

Käsivarsi is somewhat atypical for Finland due to its higher elevation (Finland's highest peak, Halti (1,324m), is located in its northern tip), rugged terrain, and limited wooded areas. This combination sounded particularly attractive to us because it meant we would hike across various types of landscapes, both on and off marked trails.

Our itinerary was as follows: Kilpisjärvi/Saana mountain -> Tshahkaljärvi lake -> Siktagurajohka river -> Meekonjärvi lake including trip to Pitsusköngäs waterfall -> Porojärvi lake including ascent of Saivaara cliff -> Guhturgurajávri/Termisjärvi lakes -> Ailakkajärvi lake -> Kilpisjärvi.

my entry to Round 3 of The Tourney

The category was of course: "Scale Things Up (Or Down)", the only category available for this round, the idea is to build something that isn't minifig scale.

Having gone micro before, I chose to go macro for the first time, and what better to do with large figures than make them have a duel.

On the left is a goblin, Gruter the Worthless, banished by his kind for treason. Goblins may be small but they're fast, and much stronger than they look. Not to mention that Gruter has fighting experience and nothing to lose, making him an especially deadly opponent.

On the right is an esteemed knight, Commander Paul Yoats, an expert swordsman and conqueror of two and a half Goblin kingdoms. After several combat engagements with goblins, Yoats doesn't ware a full set of armour any more, he chooses only to protect his chest, upper arms and head, so he can better match his enemies' speed and ferocity.

This went far better than I'd expected it to; I've never done anything larger than minifig scale before. I have to say, I'm rather proud of this, it may be one of the best things I've ever built.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

A priest and commander discuss the meaning of a runic spell found scrawled inside the test vehicle. Was it a superstitious peasant's deseperate attempt at warding off evil, or was it the original summoning for whatever worrying events occurred a few weeks earlier?

Whispers of a tank destroyer named Magnolia have been floating around Neustrasia's military circles for some time now, however, only a select few had been allowed inside the facilities to see them, and the workers had been sworn to secrecy by their factory lords. Those on the outside though reported strange fires and unearthly howls earlier in the month, and it was discovered every Magnolia superstructure had been ruined, rent apart by the absurdly strong and sharp claws of some nightmare creature that left huge, taloned footprints melted into the concrete floor!

After a joint Army-clergy operation to clear the area of any remaining hellish presence, the lords reported to the King that the base chases were actually fine and still usable. With the blueprints torched along with the entire design office, the engineers decided to just build a new vehicle on the base of the old one. They moved the engine forward, took off the top of the fighting compartment, and upgraded the armament from a 120mm AT gun to a modified 130mm naval cannon. God must have been pleased with this new development, because all further demonic incursions were foiled from the outset. But in the age of air superiority, soldiers testing the vehicle expressed worry about the open top, and it was decided a naval rangefinder would compliment the naval cannon so that the Magnolia could stay well back from the frontlines. Recommended minimum engagement range is one kilometer.

The Grand Rapids Eastern crew talks with the crew of CSX's Y597 as they figure out a game plan for their interchange. Y597 has a few cars of miscellaneous freight plus 50 empty coal gons for the GRE. It was decided that the CSX crew would first deposit the freight at the west end of Fuller yard, then pull the train of coal gons west until clear of the interchange switch. #24 would then tie on and head east. The CSX crew would actually push them a little ways east of the diamond and cut off on the fly. The only time I've ever witnessed helper service on the GRE!

Discussion between two fire ant

a collegiate friend and i were taking a walk discussing the end of one's life. we heard a fly buzz when we died. we discussed the stigma of this dogmatic notion that one has no right to determine when and how one leaves this world. what more do you have a right to than your self as a physical and sentient being. what greater decision could be considered yours to make and how sacred is a life if it can not end with a sense of dignity. and this society we live in offers no alternate method of dignity to death. the industry of death and disposal is to say the least a predatory sham, and nursing homes and care facilities both private and state operated serve as just a means of getting unproductive persons out of the way. so why then should we only accept direct life prerogatives under constrained circumstances, such as hospice? all the solutions and acceptable constraints seem to be manufactured to serve the medical and pharma industry in this country. an industry that comprises a large portion of the nations gdp. this concept did not even receive a condemnation from the church until the 15 or 16th century. yet we all die alone no matter the circumstance.
