There appears to be a look of disappointment on this eagle as it realizes that it grabbed a fist full of water instead of that tasty looking fish. Maybe its fingers were cold. After all it was minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit as well as a wind which put the wind chill temp to much lower. I know my fingers were quite cold.
A beautiful photo capturing the king tide waves colliding with rocks and the cliffsides at Cape Disappointment State Park. Over 1100 photos were captured during this awesome mother nature's event.

So I rose early to visit Point Arkwright on the Sunshine Coast, and this is what it looked like before the sun rose...behind a cloud. I thought about replacing the sky with a more colorful one from after sunrise, but (a) I'm not sure I *want* to do this and (b) I'm not sure I *can* do this. At least I put a big rock in the foreground of my wide-angle shot for once. :-) Perhaps you should just look at Matt's great photo instead!
Seems like everyone takes a colored pencils shot. But I tried to put my own depressing spin on it.

Cape Disappointment Lighthouse, Washington
A lighthouse came early to this section of the coast and stands as the oldest functioning lighthouse on the western coast of the United States, first lit in 1856.

Built this model for the ABS Builder Challenge. The seed element this round is that silver goblet.
This shot from Waikiki Beach parking lot is not of the most powerful explosion of waves I saw over the last several days, but I will cherish this shot as my first attempt at capturing the drama. The drama results from a combination of king tides, approaching winter storm waves, and beach topography. With the period between waves being just right, one that just crashed into the cliff returns to cause the approaching wave to explode into the air. Several times from this POV the lighthouse disappeared behind a massive explosion of water.
Night of the Blood Moon.

19.15 - check phone. The moon will rise in Cheddington at 19.33 appx.
19.20 - check out of window. Nice clear sky showing a bit of colour.
19.25 - grab camera and dog and set off up the hill behind my house.
19.30 - reach planned photo spot where I had a clear view of the moon two days ago. A bank of cloud is moving in rapidly.
19.33 - no Moon
19.40 - take this picture anyway of the dregs of the day and a mediocre pinkish sky.
19.45 - Still no moon. Console dog for dragging her out on an unscheduled walk for no reason.
19.55 - curse dog for performing an enormous unscheduled pooh on her unscheduled walk.
20.00 - arrive home and try to live with my disappointment……

Loads of hype all week about the best solar eclipse for years and yep, I got cloud. Still managed to get something though unlike a lot of people.
.
Mild disappointment, but still.
There was to be a full moon on Friday the 13th of September.
Checking sun and moon times at Time and Date dot com said that the sun would set a little after 7p and that the full moon would rise about 10 or 15 minutes after that, and even gave the compass direction at which the moon would rise.
Great! There'd still be a bit of light in the sky, perfect for catching a photograph.
I've never before known the web site to get things so wrong.
It gave the moon rise time for the evening before!
Or maybe because I'd checked the evening before, my phone browser got stuck on that?
At any rate, the full moon didn't arise for another 40 minutes, well after full dark.
But this is the location along US 64/84 in Tierra Amarilla at which we stopped to try to shoot the moon :-)
and the direction along which it was to rise.
According to the internet, which I believe in all things, the Friday the 13th full moon last month was to be the last full moon on a Friday the 13th for 30 years.
And I even missed the last light on this tractor!
But it was great being there. We caught some great light a few minutes earlier along Brazos Creek. And the light here on the Brazos Cliffs looks peachy.
All in all, it was a very fine day.

New Years Eve arrived and we went to the Urangan Pier at Hervey Bay expecting we may see fireworks. Unfortunately this was the scene that met us. There were a lot or people asking if and when the fireworks were on.
We don't half do a lot of whinging when things aren't ideal. Well, on our way to Wastwater we thought we would camp for the night in our van at Lakeside on Windermere.
We arrived just before sunset and quickly realised that we would struggle to get anything good unless things changed. The two boats pictured were much further back and to get a good shot of them we would have had to be on one of the moored boats and that it would be a good sunrise shot rather than sunset.
So we woke up the next morning to find things had changed. Gone had the gloomy and bland overcast sky to be replaced by mist on the lake and the sun reflecting on the clouds. The choppy lake was replaced by a smooth surface and to top it off the two boats had drifted forward allowing us to shoot them without trespassing on someone's vessel.
Happy days !
Holly said she wanted to get some ice cream and that there was a place nearby where we could get awesome creamage. Instead of a name she gave us directions, because if I knew it was Doyle's I would of told her is was closed down for the season. I feel kind of bad for taking a picture of someone who is incredibly disappointed, apparently she's been going there for 17 years.
Try as I might I just haven't been able to get any decent shots recently. That's how it goes sometimes I suppose...this is the best of a bad bunch from a recent trot up Win Hill.
Landscape photography is the supreme test of the photographer - and often the supreme disappointment.

The light was first lit in this lighthouse in October, 1856. The light was automated in 1973 and while the grounds are open, the tower is closed.
In reading the historical record, it appears several early explorers named this Cape Disappointment. To some degree, I agree with them as the weather here is often foul making photography challenging.
While visiting this time we went twice to photograph the lighthouse. Due to fog and wildfire smoke, the light was flat and the colors washed out. Undeterred, via the magic of processing, I gave the scene the colors and light I desired to see during our visit.
During our visit to Cape Disappointment, from out of the fog and mist we discovered this lighthouse. We visited during the summer when the skies were relatively clear, but I can imagine a winter storm blowing strongly against this hillside.

4am agony and rest in mum's bed until 11. Morning spent moving furniture and afternoon testing beds in furniture stores. Went running when I got home, spied a field of poppies in the middle of the rapefield. Made dinner, then cycled to the poppy field. Hadn't anticipated that the rapeseed would be 6ft high, and how far the poppies were from the road; they were inaccessible. Sat in a field beside the scouts camp instead (still in my running gear and soaking wet from the rapeseed). Turned out it was kicking out time from the scouts camp. Lots of funny looks from strangers. Camera battery was flashing. Managed a couple of shots, but nothing incredible, before it quit on me.

The past two days have been quite...interesting...for me. My truck broke and is currently being worked on. It won't be ready until friday. I've been working a lot and tonight, since I was actually off and my friends were gonna go to the fair for a bit. Well, we just assumed it was actually open tonight, and we were wrong....so I snapped this in the parking lot across the street. Thanks Slade and Taylor!
anyway-work again tomorrow and friday and then a day off!! Something exciting may be happening saturday as well:D I hope it works out!
