On Wednesday 30th April 2014, Diaspora for African Development (DfAD) held a launch event for the DfAD 2014 Report “Zambia at 50 Years: Engaging the Diaspora in Inclusive Development” at the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), London. The report was published following the successful DfAD Zambia Roundtable discussion event, with the same title, held in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Diaspora Support Initiative (DSI) Zambia in February 2014 at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka, Zambia.
The roundtable was convened to explore how Zambia could best realise the development potential of its diverse diaspora, and also, to find out whether there was parity between the status of Zambia’s Diaspora debate and current global perspectives.

‘The Diaspora Stones’ are a collection of pseudo photographic fossils. Artist Carolyn Lefley created them while she was Artist in Residence at an archaeological excavation. Over 200 years after the land Clearances at Kildonan, archaeologists excavated the remains of a buried longhouse, in June 2013. ‘The Diaspora Stones’ are a photographic poem narrating a story of leaving home. Over geological history these stones have moved from all over Scotland to arrive at a beach near the excavation site. These stones have dispersed. So they could also be a kind of geological diaspora. Much like the people in the Clearances, who dispersed from the glens to the sea and beyond.
This is just up from the outdoor dining place (prior pic in the set) on MLK in Savannah.
Interestingly, there was an article in the Savannah paper on February 19, a couple days after I took this shot, that mentioned this store. The article was about black-owned businesses in Savannah. From 1968 to 1980, this space was a record store with a mostly black customer base. The owner closed up shop after big-box retailers drew away customers looking for lower prices than he could profitably offer. He held onto the building because "the area was so rundown at that time that there wasn't really a market to sell the structure," the article says.
But in recent years things have improved on this part of the street at least, and he opened this new business in 2001.He has a mixed customer base and sounds upbeat. Here's the article:

Anyway, further toward the river, there are college buildings, a tourist center, hotels, newish-looking fast food places, and so on. But thosee aren't very interesting to photograph.
