Interesting approach that I haven't seen before. After clicking on a link on the homepage, a DHTML layer appears with "Before continuing...".
It probably has a better chance of success than a popup (DHTML or window) that appears automatically when the homepage is loaded.
It also feels ever so slightly more polite, but that's debatable.

Before I was a Flickr fan, I was trying to make a nice in-browser photo viewer app which had some basic search features, thumbnail previews via PHP and so on. I went so far as to make animated .GIF previews of videos, but I never really got to embedding them.

Op het Malieveld in Den Haag vindt zaterdag een demonstratie plaats voor behoud van Zwarte Piet en tegen de Verenigde Naties. De 16-jarige Mandy Roos uit Den Haag heeft via Facebook een oproep gedaan om aan de betoging mee te doen, het liefst verkleed als Zwarte Piet.

This was from 2000, when I had discovered the color grey and a nifty Photoshop tutorial on polar coordinates which allowed me to create the ring shown. I then painstakingly animated it (yes, that's an animated .GIF if I recall correctly) by creating individual frames from modified layers (using drop shadow layer effects) in Photoshop.

Chris released 8" from his waist, 3.5" from his neck, and 2" from each arm - not to mention many, many pounds. He is healthier and happier than ever. Along with his own success, his parents and wife have all lost a combined weight of over 90 lbs using the Isagenix products and systems.

A photo tribute to an old machine, 1999-2007 and still running strong, but no longer needed. It was also the noisiest thing in my new place, but served me well over the years.
* Intel Celeron 433
* 256 MB RAM
* Dual-boot WinXP/98SE
* ~75 GB disk space, 2 drives
* 4X CD-R / multi-format dual-layer DVD+/-R drives
* Numerous stickers
* Super-optimized boot time + drive transfer speed via ATA66/80-conductor UDMA IDE cables (new at the time.) XP used only ~64 MB of RAM after boot.
I basically wrote all my DHTML experiments and projects (DHTML Arkanoid as one notable example), did audio/video and photo editing on this machine up until 2005 when I moved to California, at which point it became a storage/DVD-writing machine and dev server (also ran http, smtp and ftp.)
Now I have 250 GB of external storage and a laptop that does dual-layer DVDs, so this old ghetto dev machine has officially been rendered obsolete. I moved all of the important data over to my new system, so I'm officially done with it. This photo serves as a mental note of its history.

Een zeekoet midden op de Vliehors, vlak bij de toren van de Luchtmacht.
Deze zeekoet zit nog in zijn zomerkleed en heeft olie op zijn verenpak.
Volgens de Volkskrant wordt er jaarlijks een half miljoen liter olie geloosd in de Noordzee
Sinds er olie in zee raakt, en dat is al uit de tijd van de oliegestookte ketels voor stoommachines, worden er met olie besmeurde zeekoeten op het strand aangetroffen.
Ik sprak eens een oude Vlielander over dit fenomeen en die vertelde mij dat hij ook niet anders wist dan dat er geregeld met olie besmeurde zeekoeten en alken op het strand werden gevonden.
Hij kende de zeekoet niet eens onder zijn eigen naam, en noemde deze vogels Teerdûkers.
Deze zeekoet ging mee naar huis, en na een wasbeurt, en bij gebrek aan vis zijn maag vol gepropt met kattenvoer, zit deze nu bij te komen op de Lange-Paal.
Update; Na een avond onder de houtkachel te hebben genoten van de warmte, is deze zeekoet vandaag naar de Fugelpits in Anjum overgebracht.
Al reizend ervaart men het leven vreemder:
overal anders en overal eender.

Timeline is a very cool module that lets you display nodes or events on a very nice, interactive timeline. This display was developed by the folks over at MIT's SIMILE Project, and they describe it as a "DHTML-based AJAXy widget for visualizing time-based events. It is like Google Maps for time-based information."
