This is the iconic white barn at the David Henry Day farm. The farm was built in the 1880's. It is located south of Glen Haven and this barn is considered one of the most photographed barns in Michigan.

D&H train RW6, 'the paper train' with GP39-2 7614 leading charges under the EL's Starrucca Viaduct to make a run at Ararat Summit. 10/28/1978

Back to the familiar setting at Schenevus, but instead of four RS18s we get a nice set of three C424s, flying down the main with a short 554 consist on 19 September 1992. It's early morning and the sun isn't quite up, but you gotta run when the trains do.

Two SD45's with an interesting history bring a northbound through Lanesboro on June 4, 1978. These 2 and one other (#803) started as EMD demonstrators, then spent time on the D&H before being swapped to the EL for U33C's before coming back to the D&H as part of Conrail formation. Memory is foggy but this might have been all high cars bypassing the tunnel by going east on the EL out of Binghamton and then down the Jeff Connection to get to home rails.

A quiet yard scene at Fort Edward NY from over nine years ago - where does the time go? Gnarly looking CP GP40-2 No. 4653 (originally B&M 309) with three generations of lettering, D&H GP38-2 No. 7303 (was the 7317), and CP caboose 434707 rest between assignments.

For fans of U-boats, here's two more D&H U33Cs, in sequence with the unit shown in my last STL posting. This time it's the 755-756, awaiting their next helper assignment on 29 May 1982, changing tracks at Bevier Street Yard, literally on the bridge spanning the road that gave the facility its name.

On the D&H diesel roster the Alco fleet got all the well-deserved attention, but the EMD and GE units were cool too. Here at the Bevier Street Yard service tracks in Binghamton on Easter 1980 weekend, GP39-2 units 7402 (ex-Reading) and 7615 (bought new by the D&H in 1976 - hence the numbering series) show off two variations of the railroad's numerous paint schemes during that era.

on 2 May 1987 are D&H RS3u No. 502 and B&M GP40-2 No. 316. By this time the storied facility was mostly open for running repairs and locomotive storage, and facing decommissioning.

One and only one, how many shots of sharks I have taken. At 19, without benefit of internet and the abundant information of today, I certainly had no idea what I was seeing. Here then are DH 1205 and 1216 at Whitehall, NY, July 25, 1976.

Freshly dipped at Colonie Shop on 2 May 1987 is Springfield Terminal SD-26 No. 617, one of a large group of the ex-Santa Fe first generation units acquired by Guilford. Oddly enough, the cab roof looks a little rough, like the paint can didn't stretch far enough.

DH took this when he was in NYC earlier this month. He just sent it to me this morning... I wasn't planning to post any pics ...but thought this was cute, and somehow appropo. (...and he took a great shot too!)

EDIT:

PS... Lisa (qdpatooties) deleted her own account today, out of disgust for what is going on around flickr. She asked me to post this, as her friends will know how to get hold of her.

I would only add...**Some people** really need to find some other hobby.

Feshly painted Springfield Terminal SD26 No. 617 catches rays outside Colonie Shop on 2 May 1987, while D&H RS-36 No. 5012 reposes in the background.

Flagship train RW-6 speeds down the former DL&W Binghamton-Scranton main line, south of New Milford PA, 168 miles west of Hoboken on a steamy 11 July 1982. Their highest numbered GP39-2 leads a pack of other EMDs with two Alcos hidden in back, in a classic pre-Guilford scene.

RS-11 duo 5001 and 5006 team up to power the Colonie local serving the GE Silicones plant, seen here crossing the Mohawk River from Waterford into Cohoes on 17 July 1986.

One of the most unusual pieces of D&H rolling stock I've ever seen. Mobile Heating Unit No. 35000 reposes in the back lot of Colonie Shop on 23 June 1980.

Two barns and a dome... the northern section of the 22 September 1991 D&H employee appreciation special passes through Cooperstown Junction NY behind D&H GP38-2 No. 7309 and CP SD40F No. 9007, bound for Oneonta.

With NR Tower posting old Nova shots, I thought I'd get into the act also. While tent camping doesn\'t much fit the go, go, go railfanning style we usually follow, a few of us popped up a tent on at least this one occasion in the park underneath Starrucca Viaduct. And the red Nova took us there. Memorable highlights were the Carrol Shelby 5 alarm chili and the 5 Alco RS's that took a southbound up Ararat in the middle of the night. After breaking down the tent, we headed out and encountered the red Dodge pickup highballing the other way with 3 of the Cleveland Mafia making a one day Cleveland - Binghamton turn. In the days before cell phones that was as good of a heads up that something was headed our way as we were going to get. The fog did clear off for a good day on the Penn Division. July 27, 1980

An S&NC excursion train north of Saratoga Springs crosses over Route 9N on a wet 14 October 2012. Ex-Staten Island Alco S-2 No. 821 looks good in the old D&H freight scheme, bringing back memories of the Bridge Line's own fleet of over 50 Alco switchers and their operations over this North Creek branch.

A Colonie based local heads back from its work in Waterford on 17 July 1986 behind RS-11 duo 5001-5006, crossing 19th Street in Watervliet NY.
