A suphur crested cookatoo devouring a pine cone high up a pine tree. Taken at the Adelaide Botanical Gardens.
The sulphur-crested cockatoo is a relatively large white cockatoo found in wooded habitats in Australia, New Guinea, and some of the islands of Indonesia.
They can be locally very numerous, leading to them sometimes being considered pests.

Happy Sunday
Like someone who’s pulling a rope that will break
Pulling, pulling, pulling, pulling, pulling…
Without realizing, brushing a little more,
Eyes still closed to avoid facing
That the air is made of crystal,
That can shatter,
That, even if it looks weird, I want to devour you.
That the air is made of crystal,
That can shatter,
That, even if it looks weird, I want to devour you.
She didn’t care about crashing in a corner of her mouth
Like the wave that gives itself over to the rock
Lost in the abyss of those hands with no end
Bigger enough to hug all her planet
You’re not here right now
I’m not here right now
But silence is the most eloquent way of lying
You’re not here right now
I’m not here right now
But silence is the most eloquent way of lying
Your silence lives in mine
And somewhere in my body used to live
A piece of your smell
Your silence lives in mine
And somewhere in my eyes used to live
A piece of pain
You’re here right now
I’m here right now
Hug me to make me think of you sometime
You’re here right now
I’m here right now
Hug me to make me think of you sometime
Your silence lives in mine
And somewhere in my body used to live
A piece of your smell
Your silence lives in mine
And somewhere in my eyes used to live
A piece of pain
Your silence lives in mine
And somewhere in my body used to live
A piece of your smell
Your silence lives in mine
And somewhere in my eyes used to live
A piece of pain
The air is made of crystal
That can shatter
That, even if my lips aren’t talking
I want to devour you...

Chinese palaces, temples and mansions have on their roofs a special kind of ornaments called wenshou or zoomorphic ornaments, some on the main ridges and some on the sloping and branch ridges.
The monstrous thing at either end of the main ridge, called chiwen, appears roughly like the tail of a fish. Fierce and formidable, it looks as if it were ready to devour the whole ridge; so it is also known as tunjishou or the ridge-devouring beast. It is, according to Chinese mythology, one of the sons of the Dragon King who rules the seas. It is said to be able to stir up waves and change them into rains.
So ancient Chinese put a chiwen at either end of the main ridge for its magic powers to conjure up a downpour to put out any fire that might break out. But for fear that it might gobble up the ridge, they transfixed it on the roof with a sword.
At the end of the sloping and branch ridges there are often a string of smaller animals, their sizes and numbers being decided by the status of the owner of the building in the feudal hierarchy.
These small animals were also believed to be capable of putting out fires. While this can be easily dismissed as superstition, they do add to the grandeur and magnificence of the imperial buildings.
The Red-tailed Hawk didn't say if the Garter Snake it's eating tastes like chicken or not, but it devoured it no time. Dixon Meadow Preserve - Dixon Meadow House, Lafayette Hill, PA.

" Look out, tell me this is nothing
Something's playing tricks and it's chipping away
I kept swirling is the trouble
Disguised in the paces, they're blocking my way
Calling me
I feel it coursing through the inside
And I can't get away, away inside
I feel it breathing and I realize
The worst is on its way
It is always something
Life keeps throwing things that don't go my way
I'm damned, awful thoughts devour me
All familiar places I can't escape
Calling me
I feel it coursing through the inside
And I can't get away, away inside
I feel it breathing and I realize
The worst is on its way
It makes me sick
But I deal with it
Set it all aside
My confidence overrides
Calling me
I feel it coursing through the inside

And I can't get away, away inside
I feel it breathing and I realize
The worst is on its way

I discovered these remnants on the last steps to the dock, noting two or three more on the lake bottom, and then another two on the bank. Something had discovered and devoured an entire clutch of duck eggs. I have a nesting box by the shore near the dock and have seen ducks (mainly hooded mergansers) regularly inspect it, but the only birds I ever knew to use it were a pair of house swallows and that only once. Unbeknownst to me, it was apparently in use this year as these remains surrounded the site. A mystery as to what feasted on these eggs as there are numerous suspects.

While waiting for the sun to rise on the banks of a perfectly calm Patoka Lake, something devoured something else. If I had to guess, I would go with a larger fish took a much smaller one who was swimming near the surface. It was the distinctive gulp sound that caught my ear and directed my eyes to this lone bubble with the smallest of ripples departing its base.
As I viewed and photographed the bubble, shown here, I remember thinking “Why in the hell did you just photograph a bubble?” It was while editing that it hit me that it is the last remnant of a life…and like that life, it will only be here for a short while.
Adventure before our lone bubble.
Doesn’t that barn door look like an open mouth waiting to devour those bales of hay? Yes it’s time to bail the hay in Connecticut.
Oh sweet mist i feel your fingers
On my skin, where they linger
I feel your sensual , soft caress
My defences ,you urgently undress
In the field, where i stand
Stroke me slowly with your hand
Take me between your greedy lips
Over my hardness, your tongue it slips
Until you swallow me, swallow me whole
Devour my heart, devour my soul
Bite me, scratch me, as you fall
Drain my sap , drain it all
In natures bed , where i am kissed
By the beauty of sweet mist

On the first Saturday in September, International Vulture Awareness Day recognizes the dwindling numbers of vultures. The day not only raises awareness about vulture numbers, but it educates the public, too. Vultures play an essential role in the ecological health of the environment.
These scavengers play a vital role in the food chain. Vultures act as nature’s garbage disposers. When they devour carcasses quickly, vultures keep the environment clean. They also help keep it free of contagious diseases.
Another role vultures play is aiding in catching poachers. When poachers illegally kill animals, they leave the carcass behind. After vultures find the carcass, they circle above the dead animal. This behavior leads authorities to the poached animals.
Because vultures aid authorities, many people kill the birds. After collecting the skins or other prizes, the poachers poison the remaining carcass. Consequently, poisoned vultures then become deadly to other scavengers.
Many species of vultures are considered endangered. Of the 23 species, 16 of them are considered endangered, vulnerable, or threatened.

The hooded vulture (Necrosyrtes monachus) is an Old World vulture in the order Accipitriformes, which also includes eagles, kites, buzzards and hawks. It is the only member of the genus Necrosyrtes, which is sister to the larger Gyps genus, both of which are a part of the Aegypiinae subfamily of Old World vultures.

The harsh reality of life on the Puget Sound.
Life brings death, death sustains life for others.

Devouring Time, blunt thou the lion's paws, And make the earth devour her own sweet brood; Pluck the keen teeth from the fierce tiger's jaws, And burn the long-liv'd Phoenix in her blood;
Make glad and sorry seasons as thou fleets, And do whate'er thou wilt, swift-footed Time, To the wide world and all her fading sweets.......Shakespeare
Normally I make rounds to fill / re-fill the feeders just before an expected "bird show". I only add a little each time because the squirrels devour the food from all of the feeders they can access. Adding food just before the birds arrive for feeding time ensures they can get some.
It had been raining on and off four a couple of days which is evident by my not so clean windows. So, instead of going out several times a day to top off the feeders, I got lazy and added extra the first time out. Apparently the squirrels had eaten everything and Dunbar felt it was necessary to come to the window and let me know that I had been derelict in my duties. He does that pretty much every time the feeders are empty.
First he pecks on the window until he gets my attention then he turns and shakes in an effort to lead me outside. If I don't respond quickly, he will peck some more and repeat his actions until he sees me head to the sliders. And yes, even if it's raining I will go out and make sure he gets his food when he requests a refill. After all he's the boss!
In this image, Dunbar is sitting on a hummingbird feeder that is attached to the window with suction cups. The hummingbirds rarely use that feeder but I leave it there because Dunbar uses it when he wants to get my attention. The rain had stopped and the sun was trying to shine through. I have to chuckle a bit at the reflection of the red from the feeder causing Dunbar's feathers to look a bit on the pink side. I am pretty sure he would not approve of that look if he was aware.
There have been requests for me to record this activity. I wish I had been set up to video during this episode, Dunbar was being so cute. I don't really do videos so I am not sure about the settings. And I am positive I can not hand hold for a video. But I will work on it in the near future. Meanwhile, I am off to gather food for the 60 monarch caterpillars that are in protective custody. Boy they eat a lot!
Ten white mice were run in a terrarium. Inside were two green mambas. The mice ran happily and interestedly through the terrarium. In the tree above them, the mambas watched the mice. Little by little they give every mouse a fatal bite, then the mambas retreat and wait. The mice showed no reaction from fear or pain. At first they continued to run normally, then they just tipped over. After the last mouse stopped moving, they came from the tree and examined their victims. When the mambas were convinced of the death of their victims, they devoured mouse after mouse. After the big meal was over, they retreated into the tree. The whole thing took about half an hour.

He's a regular, the only time it is quiet is when it is devouring the dead bees. It is comical when it gets excited!
Despite being the commonest and most widespread UK bird of prey, it was still a priviIege and thrill to get so close to this wild bird.
I had to fire shots off one at a time or in small bursts as the shutter noise was distracting this buzzard from devouring its pigeon.
It is quite large with broad, rounded wings, and a short neck and tail. When gliding and soaring it will often hold its wings in a shallow 'V' and the tail is fanned. Birds are variable in colour from all dark brown to much paler variations, all have dark wingtips and a finely barred tail. Their plaintive mewing call could be mistaken for a cat.
