It all depends how you look upon life

Doesn't it

You can have a bad time and even tho feel there is always something that is good in life

Finding them small golden nuggets is what I always have done

This attitude has helped me a lot when all feels like it's going just one way

Reflecting on my path that has been, is very interesting

All what has been has led me to where I am today

How can I not feel gratitude for all things that has happened, good and bad

It all leads me to you

I find it übercool

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.

We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

Spring is in the air, and so are the butterflies.

The little flutterers were flying around in a flash and flitter of coloured wings, like their lives depended on it. Which is probably actually the case.

It always make me wonder; What do Butterflies feel in their stomach when they fall in love?

I wasn’t sure what I was going to post today. There is a file of finished images ready for posting so I pick and choose depending on what hits me on a particular day or if I have something to write about.

As soon as I scrolled past this one of Mennonites driving by power lines on the way home from church I thought it was appropriate to today. During the last 18 hours we’ve been without internet, cable or wifi in this area. For people who have to work via the internet it can be a disaster. Not so much for me, in spite of the fact it feels like I’ve lost a functioning lung. I just worked on more pictures since the editing queue is about a mile long.

So when I think of Old Order Mennonites who live without a number of modern ammenities I have to admit I’m impressed. At least I think I am.

When I’ve read about their customs it seems Mennonites who practice their life according to the old order not only do not have cars but often don’t have electricity or if they do they’re limited as to what types of things it can be used for. They are generally allowed to have one telephone now but they definitely do not have computers or television.

What I do find impressive is the idea of life without the distractions of the ‘screen’. For different people it could mean different things—more books read, more physical work accomplished, more face-to-face socializing and other things I’m sure.

On the other hand, it can be isolating to be cut off from communications and also insular in terms of thought and opinion. We presently have the world of education available to us without even having to dig through ancient tomes at a physical library or we can read obscure papers from regions all around the world.

No question that there are plenty of negatives attached to the internet but there certainly are massive positives as well.

Does the lifestyle work for Old Order Mennonites? Clearly, it does for many. Others leave the order when they become adults to join the ‘modern’ world. Meanwhile, I continue to photograph their comings and goings when I can.

Lake Michigan's appearance depends upon winds. On a calm day, the lake is as flat as a tabletop. Strong winds from the north or south make it look like an ocean with a pounding surf. Sheboygan, Wisconsin juts out into Lake Michigan and often is faced with strong winds. We have a small but active surfing community as a result.

Yesterday we were hit by gale winds which gusted to over 40 m.p.h. at times and produced waves that were 10-18 feet high. More of the same is predicted for today, though the winds aren't supposed to be quite as fierce.

Lake Michigan rocks!

Kampong Phluk is a commune in Prasat Bakong District in Siem Reap Province Cambodia. The name means "Harbor of the Tusks". The community largely depends on fishing for survival, spending Cambodia's wet season (May-October) fishing. During the dry season (November-April) as the river thins due to receding water, many turn to farming to supplement their income. Tourism, which started in the village approximately 10 years ago, is also a growing part of the local economy.

As of 2019, the commune has 911 families with a total population of 3,707. The commune consist of three villages: Tnaot Kambot, Dey Krahom and Kok Kdol.

Canada goose gosling - The baby geese, called goslings, take about a month to hatch. Hatchlings are covered with yellowish down and their eyes are open. They leave the nest when 1-2 days old, depending on weather, and can walk, swim, feed, and even dive. They have enough energy remaining in their yolk sac to survive 2 days before feeding. Babies are covered with soft feathers called down. They hatch with their eyes open and will leave the nest within 24 hours, following their parents. Goslings can swim right away. In less than two months, the goslings grow adult feathers and learn to fly.

How many goslings can Canadian geese have?

Gang broods may range from 20 to 100 goslings following just a few adults. Gang broods are more common in areas of high nest density. Family groups of parents, that year's offspring, and sometimes 1 or 2 of the previous year's goslings stay together well into the winter.

How long before baby geese can fly?

Eggs hatch after 25 to 30 days of incubation. The young, called goslings, can walk, swim, and feed within 24 hours. Both parents (especially the gander) vigorously defend the goslings until they are able to fly, which is at about ten weeks. The young geese remain with their family group for about one year.

Do Canadian geese return to the same place every year?

Nest sites are chosen to offer some protection from exposure to wind while giving the incubating female a clear line of sight to detect approaching predators. Female Canada Geese always return to nest in the same area where their parents nested and often use the same nest site year after year.

In spring and summer, geese concentrate their feeding on grasses and sedges, including skunk cabbage leaves and eelgrass. During fall and winter, they rely more on berries and seeds, including agricultural grains, and seem especially fond of blueberries. They’re very efficient at removing kernels from dry corn cobs. Two subspecies have adapted to urban environments and graze on domesticated grasses year round.

SN/NC: Mussaenda Erythrophylla Var. Hybrid C, M. Philippica, Rubiaceae Family

Mussaendas belong to the Rubiacea family which also includes the Gardenia, Ixora, Pentas and coffee plants (Coffea arabica). This red one is not the most common, usually they are coral or pale rose. This shrub is sometimes referred to as "Bangkok Rose". It produces a showy display in shades of white, pink, salmon to red, depending on the variety. While the the bushes are not so attractive in winter (when they can lose their leaves if cold enough) they are a valuable addition to a tropical or subtropical garden for their showy display over an extended period in the warm months.

Ela pertence à mesma família do café, a rubiácea.

While shooting at Oak Grove Lake with Lieutenant Clouse, we captured some fantastic shots during the "Blue hour."When is the Blue Hour? When looking at the blue hour and the golden hour, the blue hour generally produces the most unique lighting of the two hours. The blue hour is also the most misleading term as it doesn’t even come close to lasting a full hour. In reality, what photographers call the blue hour really only lasts about 20 minutes. The blue hour generally lasts the 20 to 30 minutes just after sunset and just before sunrise. For example, if the sun sets at 5PM, the blue hour would last from approximately 5:10PM to 5:30PM. If the sun rises at 5AM, the blue hour lasts from about 4:30AM to 4:50AM. The exact timing of the blue hour will vary from location to location and change depending on time of year and air quality.

Brambling:-

Similar in size and shape to the chaffinch, the male brambling has a black head in summer, and an orange breast with white belly. In flight it shows a long white rump. Gregarious in winter, it may form flocks of many thousands and often joins with chaffinches. Numbers can vary between winters depending on food supplies.

It is a Schedule 1 species.

What they eat; Seeds in winter; insects in summer.

Depending which reference you use, this is either Tytthaspis sedecimpunctata or Tytthaspis 16-punctata.

The Common Loon or Great Northern Diver (Gavia immer), depending on where you are in the world, is an interesting and striking (in my opinion) water bird that is pretty common to some of our northern California waters. I see them at Eagle Lake frequently. It has come to be known for its eerie, haunting calls that echo a fair distance, especially on a foggy moody morning. This one I saw yesterday off Pike’s Point was showing off its black and white breeding plumage, sharp bill that I wouldn’t want to be poked with, and its beady little red eyes (and that front patch that looks like a bow tie to me). They are very agile divers and very adept at catching minnows like the tui chub that abounds in Eagle Lake. I think their body shape from the front is a bit reminiscent of pictures I’ve seen of modern nuclear submarines. Somehow I doubt that’s a coincidence.

I sometimes use camouflage netting or other things to try to mask my presence when taking wildlife photographs. I had some netting thrown over me while shooting this guy (or gal – they’re not sexually dimorphic like many birds) and it could tell something wasn’t quite right (“that big lump of stuff wasn’t there yesterday!”), but I didn’t look like a person, so it was significantly less leery than others have been when I was just sitting there in the rocks. So, while it wasn’t terribly afraid and definitely came fairly close, it still threw a wary eye my way when it cruised through the area. I grabbed this frame when it was swimming and looking in my direction to make sure the big lump still wasn’t posing a threat.

Ivan

The salmon of the Pacific Ocean, to spawn, they go up swimming across the river for kilometers, literally swimming against the current, giving the spectacle of a migration upstream, and deposit thousands of eggs at the source of the river. .. And then die of exhaustion.

They give their lives for their descendants.

The ancestral will is stronger than the individual narcissistic will.

The first time that I heard the expression: "In my life, I am first, I am second and I am third."

I was shocked: I never thought that people like that could exist.

After all, if we are alive today to debate this right to live, it is because at the beginning of our embryonic life someone protected us so that we could exist. And we exist here today.

Narcissists have even forgotten this important and primordial fact.

Maybe they think through their navel, they don't think with their brain, they don't even feel with their heart.

We humans are not beings guided by our instincts, we are initiated by them, we have a powerful mental capacity to plan our future, to make sustainable and wise choices. Our powerful brains have not atrophied our ability to be empathetic and wise. The capacity to love is instinctive and also cultural. It will also depend on whether we will or not we believe in slippery narratives.

We can choose which side we want to be on.

“A concise poem about our work as stated elow

A place without being

a thought without thinking

creatively, two dimensions

suspended animation

possibly a perfect imitation

of what was then to see.

A frozen memory in synthetic colour

or black and white instead,

fantasy dreams in magazines

become imbedded inside my head.

Artistic views

surrealistic hues,

a photographer’s instinctive eye:

for he does as he pleases

up to that point he releases,

then develops a visual high.

Movie Nights can be very unpredictable depending on Stormtrooper Bruce’s mood. With Festival Alley already open, and the Bake Off just around the corner, STB has been working like crazy trying out new recipes to see which has the most hope of being a successful entry, even though he knows he won’t win.

TK-432: Well, what a surprise. Not! I just knew you were going to do this to us again! And to tell you the truth, my feelings are not hurt!

TK-1110: Yep! We purposely skipped dinner, knowing what we were going to be up against this weekend. So, um, how many cakes do we get to sample this time?

STB: What? I have no idea what you’re talking about! I just whipped up a few deserts knowing you both have a big sweet tooth!

TK-432: And … ?

STB: And … I’m also trying a few new recipes to see which ones you like best; so I can use them again. I certainly wouldn’t want to make something you thought tasted like bantha poo!

TK-1110: Oh, yes you would! I distinctly recall a certain Kitty Litter Cake you’ve made a few times before!

STB: Oh that! Well, if you recall, it may have looked questionable but tasted divine!

TK-1110: Vader’s Dogs! I just realized what day it is! In some cultures, Friday the 13th is bad luck.

STB: What? I've been so busy wrapping presents, doing my cards, and baking these two cakes and gingerbread men, I totally haven't had time to go and do something like that!

TK-432: Dude!! Please tell us you haven’t made that again! Purdy please with porgs on top! Quick! Look under the bed!

STB: Guys! Guys! Settle down. Let’s just enjoy some pizza and then we can move on to the desserts! I’ll even restart the movie so we can officially get this weekend started!

TK-432: I've suddenly got a bad feeling about this. Just saying.
