Sorry for all the Snowy Owl photos - couldn't decide which one or two I liked best : ) I'm not too likely to find a different Snowy this winter.

Wednesday, 2 March 2022: our temperature is -7°C (windchill -10°C) at 6:30 pm. Sunrise was at 7:16 am, and sunset was at 6:20 pm. Though the forecast snow has not arrived (yet?), today has been very overcast, rather foggy and the trees looked beautiful covered in frost all day. Glad to stay home and thankful that I went out for a quick drive yesterday.

Added on Monday, 28 February 2022: I have just been driven home in an all-electric TESLA car!!! No wonder I was told how lucky I was that the Uber vehicle that was going to give me a ride home from the dealership was a Tesla. It drives itself, has a computer screen instead of a dashboard, stops a collision, etc., etc. etc. If, say, a son or daughter drives the car, there is a map on an app that shows where they are going, when they get there, who they meet there, etc. Really is an incredible vehicle, but not one I would ever buy and drive.

Update on 1 March 2022: apparently, the master switch was either not connected or not connected properly when my car was reassembled towards the end of the two months I was without it. As it was the collision centre's mistake, I didn't have to pay anything for the repair. I was able to collect it later the same day.

Yesterday, 1 March 2022, I made the most of the sunny day before snow was forecast for the next three days (no sign of it yet). On my previous drive SE of the city, on 25 February, the back roads were snowy and a mess. One back road and I had had enough. Yesterday, I drove the same road and a few others and they were in really good condition. However, no Snowy Owls to be seen. It felt so good to be out in countryside, with endless fields and sky.

This is the same Snowy Owl as in my last few owl photos. I always find it strange how a camera can give such a different angle on the bird from what you are actually seeing. This image makes it look as if I was level with the bird, when I was actually further down the road, off to the left of the photo, and had not driven past her.

I find it so much easier to go SE rather than E and NE of the city, so when I don't feel like a long drive, or I sleep in late, I head to one of my absolute favourite places - the Saskatoon Farm. On my previous drive, I called in and enjoyed a delicious breakfast of a fully-loaded omelette, and had a quick walk round. It is always such a good feeling to see the Farm's beautiful cats and dogs - therapeutic, always.

When I was having breakfast, I was talking with the young server and I told her that I was now going off to see if I could find a Snowy Owl. She said to come back and let her know if I find one - which is exactly what I did, to her surprise : )

I hadn't been too hopeful that I would be lucky enough to find an owl, and I also wasn't sure what some of the backroads would be like, covered in snow. I quickly found out and it was not a good feeling. However, I wanted to check an area where I had seen a male Snowy at the end of January, just in case. While concentrating hard on driving, I was also not feeling pleased that I could not wind down any of my car windows! I had discovered this early on in my drive and I was telling myself that it would be just my luck to come across an owl perched on a fence post (instead of an ugly power pole) near the side of the road and I wouldn't be able to wind down my filthy, splashed window. Well, a few seconds' drive further and what do I see way down the road?! A beautiful female on a fence post. I drove very slowly a little closer and took photos through the windscreen. In the end, I got out of my car, as so often my photos through the windscreen turn out with a greenish tinge and blurry. She made it clear that she wasn't interested in me at all.

Feeling so thankful, I decided to turn around and drive home, but calling in at The Saskatoon Farm on the way. No more snow-covered backroads for me - one was enough! Also needed to call in at Honda and ask about my car window problem.

Before deciding on doing a more direct comparison between her (then) 2 existing dolls I decided to take a make-up picture like Lagoona & they would've been uploaded side by side. Once I went & compare/contrasted both Abbey however this picture was left in limbo. Still, I like it quite a bit!

Both Michelle & this picture had alt edits of their edited looks but I ended up choosing this version over the other because hers was the only one of the picture I’d been using that could wear this feature while still looking attractive. Not to mention, it reminds me of her own existing tinsel! ;3

A Sri Lankan elephant deciding that it has had enough of the river for the time being. If you look closely, you can see that the elephant has taken the opportunity to grab some lush vegetation in its trunk. Though smaller than the African bush elephant, this species is the largest of the Asian elephants - hence its Latin tag (elephas maximus maximus). I photographed the animal at Pinnawala, in Sri Lanka. More at "Colin Pacitti Wildlife Photography & Fishing Travels" - www.colin-pacitti.com.

Not todays out outfit I still have to decide what to wear today as I have a few things I need to do that involves going out,

Get a grocery delivery is still neigh on impossible unless you are on the at risk list, the click and collect gets you all the out of date stuff and so one has to stand in line for a few hours to get some essentials, not as though I can get essentials after all the charity shops are closed lol. Gotta have a laugh.

Just hope its not as windy as it was yesterday, that really cooled things down and played havoc with my dress.

Sometimes the railfan God's decide to toss you a bone. MOW crews have been hard at it along the Waseca Subdivision for several days now replacing ties, rebuilding several crossings, and resurfacing approximately 20 miles of track. Due to the daytime track work trains that would typically run midday or overnight are now heading west in the evenings. The typical GE power dominates the line but every now and then one gets lucky.

Of course, lining up prime power and the proper weather conditions seems to be like finding a needle in a haystack as of late. As clouds moved in from the west I nearly gave up. I grabbed a quick video in town near the grain elevator seen in the distance before deciding to give it one more shot. Thanks to a slow order due to the current track work I was able to get to my usual spot west of town. A small sucker hole had opened up as I left town and surprisingly held on until the train arrived.

Sonoran Lyre Snake (Trimorphodon biscutatus lambda)

I have been on a quest to find and photograph all of Utah's reptile and amphibian subspecies for at least the last 16 years. One snake species has evaded me until now and that is the Western Lyre Snake. This very secretive snake spends almost its hole life in cracks, crevices, under rocks and in caves. It is completely nocturnal when it does decide to leave the comforts of its rocky dwellings which means searches for this snake are best conducted at night. Unlike most nocturnal snakes though these snakes don't seem to move much in Utah outside of breeding season and a little movement during monsoon season in August.

One of the main survey methods for finding nocturnal snakes is to drive roads through habitat at night when conditions are ideal for snakes to be moving in hopes of seeing one cross the road or sitting in the road thermoregulating. Unfortunately it seems that we don't have a lot of roads that these snakes have a need of crossing to get to food, water, mates or shelter as they are seldom found on the road here like they are in some other states. Other survey methods include looking for animals under rocks and in cracks and caves by day but despite lifting what must amount to thousands of pounds of rocks of various geologies over the last 16 years and looking in thousands of cracks I had not been able to find one of these snakes that way either. This leaves me with night hiking as close to the snakes habitat as possible on nights when I suspect the snakes might be moving. This past weekend seemed ideal to try night walking one of these snakes as the moon was becoming new there had been a ton of recent rain and a cold front would be forcing animals who had recently eaten to seek warmth to cook their meals.

I night hiked two different areas on Saturday and Sunday nights this past weekend. Saturday night was a blow out with only coyotes and owls heard around me as I scaled cliffs and boulders by flashlight in hopes of finding a Lyre snake. That night I got a very late start and it had been a bit cooler of a day so snake activity was not going to go too late into the night.. Sunday conditions were a little warmer and I got an earlier start but purposely didn't start till almost a couple of hours after dark. I hiked for at least 2 hours Sunday night looking in every creice and crack and scanning rock cliffs and boulders for the shapes of snakes scaling the rocks but none were seen. I was about ready to give up around 12:56 AM and had even resorted to photographing black widows which had come out of their hiding places into prominent locations in the rocks where I was poking around. I am not a spider lover so you know I am desperate or bored if I start photographing them. As I climbed down off of one very large rock outcrop and headed towards its base i spotted a small snake partially hiding under some sandstone flakes that had exfoliated off of the bigger rock face. This snake was boldly patterned with more contrast than you typically see in a Lyre snake and at first my brain did not register that it was in fact a baby Lyre snake which had probably recently shed its first skin. Baby snakes with blotchy patterns are almost always more vividly and contrastingly colored than their parents and this one was no exception. I really couldn't believe that the end of my snake species quest was laying on the ground before me. I decided to take some video of the event with my phone to capture my excitement and the snakes position as found before getting out my camera gear for a photo session. These snakes are protected and I have a limit of 30 minutes where I can photograph them and record data about them before needing to let them go. As you can imagine, I took hundreds of photos and lots of video of this brilliant snake. It was so amazing to finally see this secretive snake in the wild. I had seen some dead on roads before but those don't count. I had always wanted to find one in its habitat and was so elated that this night hike panned out.

These snakes have a fairly widespread population in Washington County Utah and southward into AZ and NV, California and New Mexico but their secretive nature makes understanding population densities in their habitat difficult. Hopefully i can continue to learn from successful finds like this and gain more understanding on how to more reliably find and document this species in Utah.

SO many places to eat, so little time!

Je décide samedi dernier d'aller faire un tour dans les environs de Yaté, au bord du lac. Il menaçait de pleuvoir à chaque instant, et le peu de soleil qui passait à travers les nuages donnait des couleurs particulières à la végétation.

I decided last Saturday to go for a drive in the vicinity of Yaté, at the edge of the lake. The rain threatened to fall all the time, and some ray of sunshine going through the clouds gave some particular colors to the vegetation.

there is a road on the other side that you cant see. This fawn was deciding if it was a good time to cross or not. Luckily he made it without issue.

My head´s allready aching and my mind is running out of focus.

No matter how I decide, I will lose my face anyway.

Deciding to visit a friend, she drove up the driveway and spotted these gorgeous iris in a neighbor's yard. They stood out like beacons in a lighthouse. Being a bit cheeky, she rang the doorbell and asked permission to photograph these beautiful blooms. He took her through his garden and not having enough time to photograph all the beauty she saw there, he asked her back another day...she accepted.

I have decide to make this into a stop motion series on my YouTube channel, but with a twist. There will be no talking or will be silent stop motion. Here's the summary.

After Aaron and Comixboy fought against the evil one with the rebellion, the evil one defeated them. Many were imprisoned as slaves, but also many were killed including Aaron and Comixboy. The evil one thought there was no one left who could stop him. He was wrong. What he didn't know was that Comixboy had a younger brother. He was only a child no older than 5 when Comixboy was killed. He wanted revenge on the evil one. Seeing everyone living in fear made him even more mad. He trained and trained for many years until he was finally ready. He created himself a ninja costume. He made it green to honour his brother because that was his favourite colour. This new and exciting chapter of the post apocalypse series will be told 20 years after Comixboy’a death. And in stop motion. Coming soon.

I couldn't decide between a photo of Roger or a photo of a flower for my 365 project today so I decided to combine them. Roger was somewhat chagrined, but, true to his nature, he complied. He's such a love! Although I chose another photo for my 365 project, I like how this turned out. Roger is a confident guy and secure enough in his poodle-ness to have this photo posted for all to see!
