Episode 4: Back to School

Premiere: November 2, 2011

The artists are challenged to create a piece of art inspired by the original artwork of the child they are paired with.

I used the art from one of the kids on the show, but I can't find a copy of it online. It was the one where this kid just drew eyes. His eye drawings were fantastic and totally inspired me. I have tons of old family photos. I cropped out the eyes and enlarged them; then drew them; then folded a piece of metal into 6 rectangles; pierced out 'seen' in the top panel and dapped an indentation on the bottom panel; enameled 4 of them white then drew the eyes of me, my mother, my father and my grandmother with graphite and refired them. I put a glass eye bead into the indentation; then riveted on a handmade pin back. I also added some alcohol inks.

There are a few things I would have done differently. I'm going to have to do this again.

My dapping block often does double duty.

Who's to say I can't be the moon? Or the stars? Are we not all fragments of the universe? Can't we be anything that we dream? You have to believe. I am the Moon. And I am the stars. And it's not a dream.

I really enjoyed making this one. A large sterling silver circle was hand sawn and hammered in a dapping block. I set a white mother of pearl cabochon on the 'moon', drilled holes, and from it dangled a hand sawn sterling silver star with Swarovski crystals.

Runners from the Keynsham 10k Road Race, which took place on Sunday 22nd May 2011, starting at The Sports Ground next to the former Cadbury's factory, Somerdale, Keynsham.

From here, after doing laps of the field and grounds o fthe factory, they headed up to the High Street and then into Charlton Road. The runners headed out of the town and then down Redlynch Lane to the small village of Chewton Keynsham, before heading back towards Keynham.

Back in the town, the course took them down Steel Mills, over Dapps Hill bridge and into Keynsham park. Avoiding Ducks on route, the yexited the other side before then heading down Cadbury’s main drive to the finish.

And I was tired just trying to keep up with then and take photos around the course.

This is a nylon dapping block that I made for a friend of mine who works with coins and textured metals. Her metal dapping block ironed out the patterns during doming. This block will make a true half ball from a quarter coin and leave the type and George's face intact. I use it with metal or wood punches.

Corrugated (microfolded) metal with crimping, dapping & trapped elements. 30 Gauge

I love my dapping block!

The center "stone" is a sheet of red brass, dapped, sanded, and heated. The base is a thick sheet of fine silver I made by melting leftover PMC and then putting it through a rolling mill. The band is sterling silver.

It wasn't my intention to make it look like an old globe, but I'm glad it does! You can't tell in the pictures too well, but the heat patina really looks like terrain.

I used distress inks on watercolor paper, and put the candy cane stencil on top and sprayed with water, and dapped it off. I used the die cut from the first card, and die cut 5 more and glued all down. This card is also for SSSflickrchallenge#7
