the first frost that killed all the Cosmos...

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

"Yellow, mellow, ripened days,

Sheltered in a golden coating;

O'er the dreamy, listless haze,

White and dainty cloudlets floating;

Winking at the blushing trees,

And the sombre, furrowed fallow;

Smiling at the airy ease,

Of the southward flying swallow.

Sweet and smiling are thy ways,

Beauteous, golden Autumn days.”

A beautiful sunrise this morning!

Autumn Days can be full of beautiful and colorful comforts. Get an Adirondack chair and find a quiet place to sit back with a good book of mysteries or some quality headphones and some great music. Relax and watch Autumn unfold right in front of you. Take the time or make some time and put this fast paced world on hold for an afternoon. Try to enjoy the cool air and the wind whispering through the trees as another season makes its way into our lives. Thanks for viewing my photos. Gratitude and Kindness travel in the good company, the changing seasons.

Rainy and foggy outside. The best thing to do is hide inside with warm drinks, books and writing.

(and yes, that's carrot cake there at the back!)

A few more ice abstracts from New Year's Eve .... it's grey, windy and wet now, so I'm looking back a week or two to brighter days.

Lake Almanor

Plumas County

California

From the 2018 archives

Lake Almanor was formed by Canyon Dam on the North Fork of the Feather River, which was completed in 1914. The lake has been a popular recreation area for more than a century.

Fire maps show the Dixie Fire burning all around Lake Almanor. This massive fire had grown to more than 320,000 acres and was 35% contained as of the morning of July 5, 2021. It is now the sixth largest fire in California history. It is already burning parts of Lassen National Park and has leveled one Gold Rush town.

The wildfires around the world are devastating, and we must act now!

Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for your kind comments, awards and faves -- I appreciate them all.

Gone are the days of the CSX Decatur Subdivision, now owned by Watco and operated as the Decatur & Eastern Illinois Railroad. Four axle GPs were quite common on this line while traffic was still running Paris. A little while before the sell off of the line, CSX stored cars between Terre Haute and Paris and all traffic went via Hillsdale to Danville. Since Watco has bought it, traffic has once again shifted back to the Paris side with trains running Decatur-Paris-Terre Haute. In the photo, Q594 is dipping down into the Embarras River valley at Camargo with quite an array of EMD four axle power as we pace alongside it.

Memories…they are the whispers that only your heart can hear.

Thank you all for your continued visit and support! Hope you all have a wonderful Friday! Gerbera Flower.

Rainy days are to be savored like a favorite drink. How I do love rainy days.

Despite the mixed bag of weather we've been getting lately - and a general feeling that the bird migration has been slowed by the cold nights and a couple of surprise snowfalls - there's no doubt that the spring resurgence of life on the northern prairie is underway. Therefore, over the next few days, we'll look at some signs of spring in and around Grasslands NP.

First up, this Black-tailed Prairie Dog with a mouthful of dried grass. The little rodents have been foraging now for several weeks, replacing fat reserves lost over the winter. I've watched them digging roots and clipping last year's grass, but recently they've been adding a little fresh salad to their diet.

Endless entertainment for a photographer visiting dogtown...
