Conwy Castle, North Wales
I remember the weekend very well. We had gone to Caernarfon and a trip round Porthmadog for the Festiniog Railway, where I had spent many years as a volunteer helping rebuild the line back to Blaenau Ffestiniog. On the way home I wanted to stop off at Conwy for this very shot. The weather had been glorious all weekend but now it was on the turn and the town lights refused to offer any recompense for the poor natural light.
My grandma had a house for many years in Conwy just off Llanrwst Rd behind the castle. We spent many a summer holiday and weekend breaks there during the 70's and 80's but I haven't been back that many times since her death. I've always loved this place, especially the castle and the three bridges... I remember playing hide and seek in the castle with my twin sister, trying to cross from one tower to another without being seen!
It seems to be a forgotten place these days as the North Wales Expressway (A55) speeds you right by it and under the River Conwy on the way to Anglesey. Miss the turn-off at Llandudno Junction and it’s a distant memory. I’ll go back definitely, but not during this summer with all the staycationers and caravans and motor-homes clogging the roads.
Coming back we visited Ploumanac'h and the côte de granit rose and the famous lighthouse.
Sorry for maybe over doing the lighthouse, but it is magical.

Here is some extra info on the côte de granit rose.

Shelsley Walsh, Worcestershire, England, United Kingdom, on Saturday 3rd June 2023.
About the photograph.
The bob hair woman seen on the right side of the photo, had been going around the racing car, checking each tyres, before the car moves up to the starting line. The guy in the shirt and jeans seen on the left side, was taking photos or a video on a smart phone.
The car see in the photo is a OMS 28 RPE with a 2700cc engine, driven by Steve Owen who comes from York. That car’s number at that time is 118.
The race car is manufactured by a company called OMS Racing that was formed by Lynn and Steven Owen in 1985.
(NOTE: The driver Steve, spelt without the ‘n’ in the programme guide, could be the same person as the founder Steven Owen.)
Their OMS cars have competed in various club and national motorsport events in Britain and around the world, including various hillclimbing events.
About Shelsley Walsh.
Shelsley Walsh is a motorsports speed hill climb track in Worcestershire, and organised by the Midland Automobile Club (MAC).
It is one of the oldest motorsports event, having started in 1905, and held events every year, except for the two World Wars.
It is also a notably steep course by today’s hill climb standards, rising 328ft / 100m over its 1000 yards / 914 metres length.
The track and course do not belong to MAC, it is leased from the local landowner. The original lease ran for 99 years, and in 2005, a new lease was signed for the next 99 years.
