The nightly Alaska Railroad 130S freight from Fairbanks to Anchorage was running very late this particular morning affording the rare opportunity for shots in daylight on the mainline. They have just crossed the long Knik River bridge and are swinging around a bluff to head south toward their final terminal in this view from the Old Glenn Hwy overpass at ARR milepost 145.6.

The moderately sized train of 4344 ft and 6731 trailing tons trailing three SD70MACs is heavy with jet fuel from Flint Hills Resources in North Pole destined for the Anchorage International Airport. Alas the 85,000 bpd refinery whose production once accounted for 40% of the railroad's revenue is no more having shut down for a multitude of economic and political reasons in 2014 and being demolished two years later after operating since 1977. Have a wonderful day/evening to all.

A very late WAPO doubles their train at CPF 113. It usually ran at night, but I can't remember the reason it was so late on this day. On the right behind that Guilford boxcar is the MEC 500 on a flatbed ready for transport to I believe LTEX, I'm not 100% sure if that's where it went though.

This is another processing of the photo that I used as source when I did the fake night shot.

Was #1 on explore at the 25th of Feb 2008.

no need for this old globe ... found in the dirt beside the road.

On Saturday morning I arrived early at Thickson's Woods in Whitby, Ontario in search of a Cerulean Warbler that was reported the day earlier. As I was entering the park I saw this male Baltimore Oriole robbing Spidey's food store in broad daylight. Interestingly someone setup half of an orange for the Orioles. This one seemed to ignore the orange and went for some protein diet. I didn't think that the Spidey stuck around for a confrontation that he knew couldn't win. By the way, no luck with the Cerulean, it left overnight to continue with his northward migration.

It has been a couple of years since Southern Pacific shined up SD40R SP 7342 for service on the Louisiana Worlds Fair Daylight. On a sunny fall afternoon in 1986, the formerly flashy six axle motor highballs Kegg, California.

Photographed on a bright, sunny day, with blue sky as the background.

Just a quick shot taken from my back patio while it was still light. It is not a telescope photo. It was taken with my 150-600 mm Sigma Sport lens on my Nikon D810. Hand held.

As I was leaving I noticed the sun shone on the front of the lighthouse. And the light still shone. Always look back.

Dawn breaks at Ricketts Glen State Park in Pennsylvania. Here is a bulb capture at sunrise at the lake there above the waterfall glens. I shot this originally in RAW with the WB at "cloudy", but in this version I have adjusted the WB from 5900K to 5500K at the "daylight" temperature. The cooler cast makes for a beautiful color tones that really pulls out the magenta and purple tones.

The middle fork of Fitzhugh Creek runs through a 2100 acre wildlife preserve in Modoc County California. The preserve provides quality habitat for deer and pronghorn “antelope,” as well as a host of birds and, I have to believe, black bears as it just looks like bear country to me. On this particular day I was in the middle of a 4 day “me time” camping trip, just generally trying to disconnect for a bit. Modoc County is probably the most remote county in the nation’s most populated state so it was just what the doctor ordered. I didn’t see much wildlife on this day but I also didn’t see any humans for about 6 hours as I explored around the back country. I’d never heard of this creek until I came to it that late spring day, and I probably spent a half hour just soaking it in under mid-day light that was nicely diffused by some high overcast.

While fishing off the coast of South Australia we were treated to a dawn light display, lucky I had my phone with me and a few decent sized snappers for a few meals 😋

Sunlight is split into two canyons and gives one last rush through southern Colorado, USA, ending another beautiful day. The yellowed evergreen trees low across the canyon on the left are actually suffering from a blight or some other disease, maybe pine beetles, that has discolored them. Thanks for looking!
