When you're named in honour after David Bowie, you command respect! 😎
After seeing photographs of specimens online some odd years ago, Heteropoda davidbowie for a long while have been amongst my list of most admired/favourite invertebrates... So when my local invert shop had a couple adult females on display, I couldn't help myself in taking a stab at getting a portrait. 😌
The species is a huntsman spider of the genus Heteropoda. First described by Peter Jäger in 2008, based on a specimen collected by G. Ackermann in 2007 in the Cameron Highlands of peninsular Malaysia. The species name honours David Bowie, with particular reference to songs such as "Glass Spider" (from the 1987 album Never Let Me Down), as well as the 1972 album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, and the resemblance of the frontal view of the spider to the singer's painted face in his early career.
Distributed in West Malaysia (Cameron Highlands), Singapore, Sumatra and possibly southern Thailand.
Adults are often seen on tree bark. Juveniles have been found on leaf litter and leaves on shrubs.

Ancora un murales in omaggio al grande David Bowie..
There’s a starman waiting in the sky
He’d like to come and meet us
But he thinks he’d blow our minds
There’s a starman waiting in the sky
He’s told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it’s all worthwhile
He told me:
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie....
what an era !! . being 11 and discovering music . the music of the day was Glam .
it must be the weirdest era in modern music ; androgyny , aliens , men in leopard skin tights and glitter makeup etc .
Bowie , Roxy music , T Rex , Gary Glitter , Slade . I loved it .. RIP Mr Jones
It is hard to believe that more than five years have slipped away since David Bowie left us. Such a huge hole left behind by this musical hero of mine.
I tried to create something artistic for the Jan 10 anniversary of his death but didn't like what I did, this is a belated second attempt.
Five Years is also one of my favourite Bowie songs.

DB is one of the cutest spiders in Malaysia. It rarely run away when disturbed but choose to curl up (see photo) with all eight legs tightly tugged in.
The female David Bowie spider is similar to the male in appearance, but its colour may vary from white, grey to red-brown and the ringed pattern on its legs is more conspicuous, with dark spots across the brighter areas. There are also six large red areas on the rear section of the upperside of the body. As with all spiders, it can be assumed that the female David Bowie spider is larger than the male
I couldn't find words, so I took a photo.

Book cover of David Bowie : Little People, Big Dreams published by Lincoln Children's Books.

I picked this image from the end of summer for two reasons. 1) If I was as graceful as this Brugmansia flower I wouldn't have slipped and fallen, feet up, on my derierre. 2) As I fell on said derierre, I felt that a night off was called for. All is well in the land of Buttercup:)

I was so excited on Friday to hear that David Bowie had released a new album...his first in so many years.....I was ecstatic, thinking/hoping that maybe, just maybe he would be touring again. I bought the CD yesterday...and listened to it and loved it! Last night I heard the news of his passing, and have been in shock ever since. I tried to listen to the CD again but it has a different effect....the words have a different meaning..
I saw him perform a minimum of 7 times and once in the late 70's I saw him rehearse for an upcoming tour here in Vancouver......it was like a private concert! A similar opportunity arose again for me in September, 1983...I had a chance to be backstage while they were filming the Serious Moonlight Video.....I had to turn it down.....I instead went on a first date with the man I have been married to for 28 years.
The tickets were to his concert at BC Place stadium....it was the first ever concert held there.
I adored this man and his music - he was brilliant...a pure genius and had such great style......so ultra cool! ...so cutting edge!,,,,,,,,, (over the years I have had at least 3 Bowie haircuts)
RIP STARMAN

Dans une galaxie lointaine, l'Empire a gagné la guerre et notre monde-miroir est sous le joug des Stormtroopers.

Gentle hearts are counted down
The queue is out of sight and out of sounds
Me, I'm out of breath, but not quite doubting
I've found a door which lets me out!
Happy Birthday to one of my heroes. I got the opportunity to team up with my amazing friend/MUA Nicole to create a classic David Bowie look, in homage to his iconic work. We decided to focus on one my favourite eras of his: Ziggy Stardust/Aladdin Sane.
Every year I try and create something inspired by Bowie, and this year I felt like having some fun and embracing is colourful and creative side.

"Space Oddity"
Ground Control to Major Tom
Ground Control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills
and put your helmet on
Ground Control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown,
engines on
Check ignition
and may God's love be with you
[spoken]
Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Liftoff
This is Ground Control
to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule
if you dare
This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating
in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do
Though I'm past
one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much
she knows
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead,
there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you....
Here am I floating
round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do.
