Penyghent prepares to head south on the old Midland Main Line at Rowsley (Peak Rail) with a train bound foe Matlock.
At very short notice, route D8 took up its intended routeing via Carpenters Road and the London Aquatic Centre on Saturday 29th November 2014. Go-Ahead London's SE147, an ADL Enviro200 allocated to the Docklands Buses base at Silvertown, is seen passing the Aquatic Centre on Monday 1st December, with the ArcelorMittal Orbit in the background.

Carpenters Road was closed in 2007 to allow the construction of the Olympic Park; the bus route using it at the time, the 276, was rerouted permanently via Old Ford.
When route D8 was rerouted to Stratford City in September 2011, on the opening of the new Westfield Shopping Centre, it was routed via Warton Road and the newly-constructed Montfitchet Road. The use of Warton Road was a temporary measure as it was intended that the route would use Carpenters Road once the Olympic Park was fully opened to the public following the Olympics. Although this occurred on 5th April and the 339 was rerouted from that date, Carpenters Road had remained closed at the railway bridge until the end of November, possibly due to Crossrail-related works.

A rather strange angle from which to photograph a Class 44 - I don't know what I was thinking! A green-liveried D8 "Penyghent" stabled at the side of Toton diesel depot on 28 September 1968. Penyghent would work for another 12 year after this date, being withdrawn in November 1980. It then passed into preservation to become one of the only 2 Class 44s still with us today.
Class 44s became quite restricted in their duties, as only Toton men were passed on them. They were thus used on duties that could be run on an out-and-back basis from Toton, regularly visiting such locations as York, March, Wellingborough, Northampton and Washwood Heath. At weekends it was quite usual to see all 10 of the class at Toton depot.

The Taylors coach fleet consisted of late 1980s/early 1990s Bova Futuras, all of which had been given a simple modernisation by fitting later style front panels. The green example seen on rail replacement at Bicester was purchased in 2001, being given the then current production front. It was initially re-registered HSV 673 but later donated that mark to the Bristol VR and became D8 OVA. This coach was sold in 2008 and operations ceased two years later.
Class 44 No.D8 Penyghent at Peak Rail Matlock under cover on 25th July 1989.Built at Derby and new to 1B Camden on 18th December 1959 and under TOPS became 44008 on 7th March 1974.She was withdrawn on 30th November 1980 .Sold for preservation in April 1981 and moved to the Strathspey Railway,Aviemore then sold to Peak Rail in January 1987,where she arrived on 13th February 1987.

A Peak comparison: as-built Class 44 D8 Penyghent in original BR green livery is on the right, having arriving into Holt with the 1005 from Sheringham, whilst Class 45 45133 in the final BR blue livery with high intensity headlamp is on the left, about to depart on the rear of the 1033 to Sheringham, with D182 providing the power.
There are two D8 Cat's parked at LDB. They don't look like they've been used for a few weeks, but I'm sure they were useful when they towed all the buildings into position.
