I would like to introduce you to Sophie, a beautiful female Belted Kingfisher who as been on my lake forever ... Named thus to allude to an old adage that my mother always said when one of my sisters were in trouble '' Ha Sophie misfortunes'... Because then this female Kingfisher as add some weird situations appening to her during my observations ...
I had never succeeded in capturing her on the my sensor since there is not enough water on the lake shore in front of my house in summer for her to perches and fishing there from the tree on the shore line. So I installed a perch in deeper water to accomodate her and hoping to get a chance to observe it and capture images of her. During my first watching sessions in my little camouflage tent installed on the shore in front of the house I noticed that the perch was really too close to the shore and that there was not enough water yet for her, she passed by without stopping while screaming like the Kingfisher constantly do during their moves, moreover she remained suspicious of this new pole appeared suddenly at 60 feet of the sure ... I left her the time to become acclimatized to the pole while observing her from afar. I noticed that she had several habits and a certain assiduity to use the new pole that would soon serve me. In the morning it arrived at the very first gleams of clarity, passed by for a quick fishing in the middle of the day and in the late afternoon at Golden hours.
I waited several time and many hours without success in the hope of seeing her arrive, I heard her scream but she did not show up or went straight by me like a rocket. A certain late afternoon when the brightness is magical at Golden hour she came and perched in front of me, there was my reward ... She will only remain the time of a few shots before diving out of my field of vision which is rather narrow in this tiny tent ... So here are some of the first images of a long series that I have captured and that I will present to you.

Delaware and Raritan Canal, Lambertville, New Jersey
The canal's greatest usage occurred during the 1860s and 1870s, when it primarily transported coal from Pennsylvania to New York City, during the Industrial Revolution. By 1974, most of the canal system was declared a New Jersey state park. It remains one today, and is used for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. A graded natural-surface trail along the side of the canal, which was the tow path that mules used to tow barges on the canal before steam powered barges, is now used for hiking, jogging, bicycling, and horseback riding.

The Château d'Annecy is a restored castle which dominates the old French town of Annecy in the Haute-Savoie département. It was bought by the town, restored and transformed into a museum, le musée-château d'Annecy. The castle is listed as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture.
The castle was built between the 12th and 16th centuries. It served as the residence of the Counts of Geneva and the Dukes of Genevois-Nemours. Several times the victim of fires, the castle was abandoned in the 17th century and later repaired to serve as a barracks until 1947. The town of Annecy acquired the castle in 1953, restored it with the help of Monuments historiques and installed a museum there.
Since 1993, the Tower and the Logis Perrière have housed an observatory (l'Observatoire régional des lacs alpins). (Wikipedia)
This weeks Saturday Night Special is D&H 753 at Oneonta, NY on August 1, 1970. No photographer name on the slide mount. This was one of the 3 EL U33C's that the D&H got in a swap for the 3 SD45's. The units were swapped back prior to C-Day in 1976, so that the D&H eneded up with the 3 SD45's again.
