I have always wanted to do a Tron themed shot for a while but never knew what to do, but gave in today and just gave it a go. I didn't have access to put a bike in the studio so i just had to lie a mattress on its side and use it that way to suspend me correctly into the right position. Worked quite well but i cheated a lot for this one as i'm not feeling well and didn't want to spend too long on it. Looks better as a thumbnail as it's not great quality but whats done is done.

Im off to medicate myself now with as much as possible. See you guys later...

Exploring Twisted Cyberspace. Twisted Hunt Spring 2020 Continues... Info & links on my Dark Blog ~ aznanasaccouterments.blogspot.com/2020/03/ts202.html

Modeling Oceane's Jade skin with Mistress Moody Make-up. Hair by Emotions.

So.

One year on Flickr today... And what to show for it? And will anyone actually read what I write anyway? And do I care? (I don't know if I do or not.)

I uploaded a big bunch of shots to Flickr originally as another space online to show my work, believing that by prostituting my work and my name across photography cyberspace it would slowly but surely help to spread what I do around and maybe help me get more work, or at least be recognised more. Flickr was a small part of a grander plan...

And then I started to fall flat out of love with taking photos, particularly those for people and models who wished for nothing more than to create as much pain and stress as possible. Fashion and portraits are what I did really... I spent nearly three months of the last year without physically touching the camera, but then as my mentor, ex lecturer and friend Dave White said to me recently:

"As for the dry spell - fuck it. You are a serious photographer who uses the camera as a medium. That is, as a vehicle to carry your thoughts...

So, it's hardly surprising that you aren't sure yet, what you want to say about your new situation. You've barely had time to see it, let alone get to grips with what it means and how to translate it into pictures. You had 20 odd years (and let's face it, they were odd) to develop a vision of people, places and things around here. (The UK.)

I would be worried, if you e-mailed to say you were snapping away happily. That would make you the kind of lightweight git we always tried to persuade to give up the classes as quickly as possible. You know, the ones who thought that if they pointed their Leica at any glittery surface or grand landscape, the photo was bound to be interesting and that they had nothing to learn because they had found out long ago that asking themselves any awkward questions only made their bollocks ache.

Take your time. Keep fit. Eat well. Sleep after shagging. Read poetry. Look at the sea. Do not think about the camera. When the time is right, it will get down from the shelf, dust itself off and tap you on the shoulder."

And so it has come to be that Flickr has become more of a personal insight into me and my thoughts, the personal side of the commercial picture taker in making. I still itch physically to shoot people again, to find some model and sit her down and shoot her in a way that noone else would. To show you her eyes and make you wonder, to undress her and show you her soul naked not her body, to dress her again and make you wish for a backward step. The itch to shoot people gets stronger by the day, yet my desire to express myself in whichever bloody way I feel like at the time grows with more vigour still. I shoot more landscapes now than I ever did. I think more now than I have for some time and yet end up picking up the camera and putting it down more now knowing I won't do my thoughts justice.

I see Richard, Memetic and August's effortlessly beautiful way of photographing life and people with aching simplicity but more beauty than I'll ever manage and feel both downheartened and inspired. I see the self portrait work of Laurel, Melissa, Ally, Sarah and Charlie and feel both deep envy in not being able to record the models I shoot and will shoot with such delicacy, inspiration to try sometime soon, and all whilst trying to hide the fact I might just possibly think they're all very yummy! There are others in this category!

I see the emerging photographic talents and desire to want to say things with their pictures of Angela, and Nicole and smile to myself, safe in the knowledge that whilst there are people out there getting the bug for photography like these girls, the future is safe. I smile sometimes at their innocence and visual immaturity and realise that half the time I recognise the same past mistakes I made, and the other half being awoken that they're better than I am.

(And then I become conscious most of the people I link to are pretty women... *sigh* *blush* *sigh for being a predictable bloke*)

I see the work of Matt and Brent (keep smiling Brent!) and remember that I thank someone upstairs that when I moved to NZ it meant I'd meet people like these guys who just care for nothing else other than the picture itself. No gear nerds, no willy waving, no massaging of egos (much) just really good photos and more talent in their little finger than half of Flickr put together.

And after all that I learn one thing. Flickr is Facebook for photos. It's a feeding ground for photographic minds and inspiration. It's opened my mind and swayed my thoughts and introduced me to so many people I enjoy talking to and checking out their images. Yet I think it's done absolutely f**k all for my photography. I don't feel I've learned a single thing or progressed one step in this last year, just allowed myself to feel vaguely comfortable to wallow in my own photographic ramblings and self pity.

Perhaps this Flickr thing is a journey? Perhaps like many journeys it only becomes clear after ten thousand steps? Perhaps it's just a pointless time thief and I'm thinking about it too much? Hopefully though, the next year will bring changes...

I was egoistic and Googled my own name just to see what was out there in cyberspace. It's interesting what you can find. One of the things I found was that someone had used one of my pictures that was uploaded (by me) a long time (7 years) ago to a site called "Nuages.com", which displays only clouds It was used (with proper identification of owner) to illustrate a poem, in French. Since it's about 45 years since I had my last French lesson, I unfortunately can't understand the poem, but I know that some of my flickr friends can, and if someone could give me a hint what it's about, I would really appreciate it. Here is the poem

LE VENT NOUS EMPORTERA

Dans ma nuit, si brève, hélas

Le vent a rendez-vous avec les feuilles.

Ma nuit si brève est remplie de l'angoisse dévastatrice

Ecoute! Entends-tu le souffle des ténèbres?

De ce bonheur, je me sens étranger.

Au désespoir je suis accoutumée.

Ecoute!

THE WIND WILL CARRY US

In my night, so sadly short,

The wind has a date with the leaves.

My night, so short, is filled with destructive anxiety

Listen! Do you hear the breath of blackness?

To this happiness, I feel foreign.

To despair I am accustomed.

Listen! Do you hear the breath of blackness?

There, in the night, something is happening

The moon is red and anxious.

And hung on this roof

Which risks collapsing any time,

Clouds, as a crowd of grumblers,

Wait for the delivery of the rain,

An instant, and then nothing.

Behind this window,

It is the night that trembles

And it is the earth which stops to turn.

Behind this window, the unknown gets worried

for me and you.

You, very green,

Put down your hands - these burning memories-

On my loving hands

And entrust your lips, fed on the warmth of life,

In the caresses of my loving lips

The wind will take us!

The wind will take us!

Technical note; This a picture taken very early with my first digital camera, a Leica (made by Fuji). The resolution was not very good, but it was fun to try something digital.

The original was saved on a Zip 100 disc, which has since deteriorated and is now unreadable. A lesson learned that our digital media will not last as long as my grandparent's b/w photos.

In this odyssey through the digital expanse,

Where bytes dance in a symphony of code,

I traverse the labyrinth of cyberspace,

Seeking refuge in its boundless embrace.

With every click and tap of the keys,

I carve out a passage, a journey unique,

Unfettered by the weight of history's chains,

Guided by the luminance of the screen's glow.

Though darkness threatens to engulf,

And echoes of bygone days reverberate,

I discover solace in the pixelated panorama,

For within cyberspace, liberation reigns supreme.

Ben enters a virtual world

It was hard to resist taking several pictures of this young woman: she seemed so clean-cut, attractive, and well dressed as she stood in the square while chatting on her cell phone.

She then marched back and forth several paces, then went into the entrance to the 72nd Street subway station, came back out again, marched around, continued chattering on her cell phone, and occasionally glanced at me with a puzzled look as I snapped several pictures. A good ten minutes went by until she finally disappeared for good into the subway station, still chattering away on her cell phone...

This is part of an evolving photo-project, which will probably continue throughout the summer of 2008, and perhaps beyond: a random collection of "interesting" people in a broad stretch of the Upper West Side of Manhattan -- between 72nd Street and 104th Street, especially along Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.

I don't like to intrude on people's privacy, so I normally use a telephoto lens in order to photograph them while they're still 50-100 feet away from me; but that means I have to continue focusing my attention on the people and activities half a block away, rather than on what's right in front of me.

I've also learned that, in many cases, the opportunities for an interesting picture are very fleeting -- literally a matter of a couple of seconds, before the person(s) in question move on, turn away, or stop doing whatever was interesting. So I've learned to keep the camera switched on (which contradicts my traditional urge to conserve battery power), and not worry so much about zooming in for a perfectly-framed picture ... after all, once the digital image is uploaded to my computer, it's pretty trivial to crop out the parts unrelated to the main subject.

For the most part, I've deliberately avoided photographing bums, drunks, drunks, and crazy people. There are a few of them around, and they would certainly create some dramatic pictures; but they generally don't want to be photographed, and I don't want to feel like I'm taking advantage of them. I'm still looking for opportunities to take some "sympathetic" pictures of such people, which might inspire others to reach out and help them. We'll see how it goes ...

The only other thing I've noticed, thus far, is that while there are lots of interesting people to photograph, there are far, far, far more people who are not so interesting. They're probably fine people, and they might even be more interesting than the ones I've photographed ... but there was just nothing memorable about them.

A candid street photo of a young man who sits on a bench in the street and works on his notebook computer. A several stickers are affixed to the back of the PC screen. Judging by the stickers, the guy is the coolest hacker ever. He carefully positions himself for the cyberspace activity. In case of emergency he throws his device in the nearest trash bin and pretends he just takes the air. Oh, those hackers. And yes, the weather is cool.

Ramadan holy month of piety

And she sits and begs

The poor beggar Muslim Woman

Carrying her pain

Within the ocean of her womanhood

Blood sweat and tears

Voluminous waters of her hijab

Besides her sits her little girl

Who will perhaps beg like her

Another hijab of pain

Yes Muslims

do not wish to be reminded

black spots on the firmament

of Islamic society

on hard rock hearts

while the Mullahs men

move from house to house

with a receipt book in hand

another Mosque

to be built at Ayodhya

another in Faizabad

Madarsas to be built in Azamgarh

Yes they beg too with Islamic fortitude

While at the corner of a Allahs Door

A Muslim Poor Woman Begs

From one Ramadan to the other Ramadan

Fasting from the day she was born

To the day she will die..

The Mujhaidas were plumb lucky

Living and breathing among prayer beads

On cyberspace

Allah ho Akbar endangered specie

The Poor Muslim Woman

A palpitating heart

a dying soul in the Hijab

Says the Muslim Man

Let her be ..

A Muslim Woman

To her Crying Destiny

this poem does not denigrate the hijab but the life that lies unprotected as woman within the hijab no upliftment of her

deteriorating condition..

Remember my popular image underneath the pier??

Well, this is what I took later on. I was a little farther back, which is really too bad because you can't see as well the way that the water is misty and earily flat.

The only light here is the sodium vapor lights and the moon. The colors are exactly the colors that appeared on the slide. I like the crisscorssing partial-shadows on the ground, the yellow-and-black of the sand, and everything.

This is on Velvia 100. Pinhole told me that Velvia is a horible long-exposure slide film. The thing is, I've discovered that I like daylight balancing at night, where the sodium vapor shows its true golden nature. Velvia 100 has incredibly good reciprocity behaviour, more or less the same as Provia 100F. I have a number of night shots taken on it and I really like how they look. The fact that exposure must be right on with Velvia 100 doesn't really bother me much, because metering exposure on the a95 is about as strict.

Which is really not to say that Pinhole is wrong, more that after gathering an understanding of the situation, the properties of film, and why everybody says that Velvia is awful for night, I find that, at least for me, I can safely ignore the advice.

I basicly metered this by taking a ISO 400 exposure on the a95 and extrapolated from there. It's about 9 or 10 minutes at somewhere between f/5.6 and f/8... I wasn't keeping too good of records on this roll. As all of my slide shots, pretty much, were shot, this was done on my old mechanical film SLR and a 50mm lens.

The nice thing is that I can blow this one up much bigger than a picture taken on the a95. I printed out a 16x20 and it's absolutely stunning.

Oh yes, and because it takes so long for each exposure, I only took one shot from this angle -- no bracketing!

I'm showing this right now.

Thanks to Dr BU Pai I start a new series at Flickr.com a series ,very close to my heart the GSB Ganpati King Circle 2009..I have been continuously shooting it since a few years now.

GSB means Gaud Sarawswat Brahmin..one of the finest peace loving community settled in Mumbai from the South, their humility , their love for Lord Ganesha touches every one including this barefeet Muslim blogger from Mumbai..

The GSB community , everyone men women and children leave no stone unturned to make this event a great spiritual success...everybody is doing some community service, as volunteers , feeding the crowds , keeping vigilance in such trying times ,the men dressed in lungis bare bodied move about serving the devotees of Lord Ganesha.. The King of King of King Circle..

I copy lines from their old brochure ...

"Dear Fellow devotee,

It is with great pleasure we inform you about the 55 th Shree Gaaneshotsav Celeberations of our GSB Seva Mandal which will be celebrated at Sri Sukriteendra Nagar , A Rama Nayak Halll grounds behind SNDT Womens college R A Kidwai marg Kings Circle Mumbai 19. from 23 th Aug,2009 till 27 th Aug 2009.

We also have the proud privilege to state that the Shree Ganeshotsav is celebrated by us with unique spiritual and religious focus to insure that all the offerings made to Lord Ganesha reach him in the purity of thoughts and action.

The five days celebration of Seva Mandal is one where all volunteers whole heartedly work day and night right from collection of donations to service towards the Lordand also his devotees thronging the Pandal to pay obeisance to the Lord. The Shrama Daan of our volunteers is truly worth watching at the venue.

The Lords idol stands majestically at height of 17 feet studded with gold ornaments and a beautiful gold crown. When the celebrations were first initiated by Seva Mandal , the Lords idol was 14 inches, .

It exemplifies the stature and glory of our Lord who is also known to fulfil wishes of his ardent devotees. Seva Mandal feels itself fortunate to be blessed by our Dharma Guru His HolinessSudhindra Titha Swamiji , The Mathadipati of Shri Kashi Math Samasthan without which these celebrations could not have scaled to such great heights…

May Lord Ganesha inspire and bless us all."

As Dr BU Pai was at work, he called me this morning to shoot the Lord and a unique ritual called Tolabar where a person is weighed on a scale and his weight equivalent to his offerings , coconuts ladoos, prasadam is presented to Lord Ganesha.

Photography is strictly prohibited , but thanks to the community and the GSB management I am allowed to shoot the Lord that he touches all of you on cyberspace, and these are over 800 pictures shot in a few hours.

Mr Dinesh Pai , Mr Dilip Pai the head honchos, and other volunteers helped me , and were hospitable in all aspects , today was my third fast of Ramzan, and nothing could tire me when it comes to sharing the bounty of Lord Ganesha not just as a religiosity but as my cultural inheritance.. thus continues my mission of Hope and Hindutva as a message of Peace.

As you are aware I shot Lal Bagh Cha Raja on the day of my first fast Aug 23 2009..and his first day in royal court at Lalbagh..

I completed uploading all this at Flickr today.

A incident took place this morning at the GSB Ganesha Pandal which made me cry , I need to share it with all of you, while I was shooting the Lord a youth came to me and thanked me I had never met him before ,so I was quite surprised , he explained to me that due to unavoidable reasons he could not partake in the celebrations of his favorite Lard , last year .

Than he found my GSB pictures on Flickr.com , and attained his spiritual happiness and made his darshan too, , on hearing this I began to cry..

Photography is an instrument of Peace and as a Photo Blog it becomes a means to holistically heal the human soul..

I dedicate this to Hari Shenoy from Bhandup the youth whose eyes went moist seeing me cry, , he gave me a reason to heal myself too..and what is a Hindu or a Muslim ,if he is not touched by the love of humanity..We believe in God so we can believe in ourselves , I too gain a spiritual high as I shoot spirituality where a divinity comes in the form of clay to remind us of our own mortality , he touches and binds us all and than goes away to return again the following year..

Ganesha festival is about our nationality - making us good Indians irrespective of our caste color or creed .

Thank You Lord..

In our virtual world, where so much takes place in the vapor zone known as cyberspace, the feel of the ground below my feet, coupled with the familiar scents, sights and sounds on this ridge where we live, gives me comfort. I call it serenity of place.

Speaking of a sense of place: here's my live and very personal rock n' roll version of a country tune that definitely invokes a sense of place. Check it out if you dare and never let it be said that an old man can't rock. :-)

He was overcome by panic, fear almost gave him wings, he ran for his life with only one goal: to leave Goatswood as quickly as possible, to leave the horror behind him. He didn't know that he was in vain, he didn't know that something had already taken possession of him and would awaken a new desire in him, a new desire that was unknown to him until now, a new desire that he would never be able to fully satisfy. A lust and a power, a desire and for humanity a horror. He did not know that he had become an immortal nightmare.

Unbeknownst to himself, he had taken something from Goatwood, a relic that would accompany him for the rest of his immortal life, he held it in his hand without realising what significance it would have for the rest of all time.

He became The immortal nightmare of Whitechapel

View On Black

Near Bath, England seen and taken while floating down the River Avon. The original image is a Kodachrome 64 slide that was taken with a Nikon F3 camera in 1995. The shot was digitally scanned using the Epson Perfection V500 Photoscanner. Cleaned and color corrected using Photoshop CS5. A filter was used to soften the focus.

The "Image Preservation Project" is my personal commitment to convert photographs that I've taken on film over the years to digital images so they can outlive the normal deterioration and shelf life of the chemicals and film material. As digital images they remain in cyberspace forever. I encourage all serious photographers, professional or amateur, to spend some time doing the same with images shot on film that they wish to preserve. It would be a shame to have many well taken photographs lost to the world forever, especially since there is now software to solve this problem.

After a few more hours, he reached the town. It was dark, eerie, haunted. As he entered it, the world around him changed, even the sky seemed no longer the same. The sun became a black yet burning shadow, even the light glowed with darkness.

Not a soul could he discover, as if the whole city was abandoned, yet it had not crumbled, showed no signs of an abandoned city. Its inhabitants had to be somewhere, somewhere in the darkness.

He realised that Goatswood seemed to be a city between dimensions, perhaps a city between different universes where all boundaries were blurred.

Thanks to Gabi for recommending this author to me. This book contains the three short stories Under the Jaguar Sun, A King Listens, and The Name, the Nose. They all have in common that a particular sense plays a prominent role. Taste in the first one, hearing in the second, and smell in the third. And even when describing pure and beautiful things, the sinister is always lurking somewhere close. Under the Jaguar Sun is about a couple traveling in Mexico, exploring spicy food and its relation to their love life and, of course, cannibalism (no, I'm not kidding). A King Listens is mostly about the unpleasantries of being king. The Name, the nose tells three parallel stories of male narrators trying to find the lady of their dreams by her smell (each story set in a different time and situation, all more or less in the same locatin, I think).

I was walking around and decided that I liked this shot.

I took maybe 5-10 tries at this shot, trying to get the one where the wave was most impressive.

I came back at night and took another shot

This is slightly out of order, so that my stream isn't just rose pics....

One year ago, I uploaded my very first picture on Flickr.

One year ago, I was looking for a suitable photo sharing website and I found Flickr. I had no idea what I was doing, who was going to look at my pictures, and ironically, I thought that it would just be like that - putting a picture on a website, letting it disappear into the vacuum of cyberspace, and then forgetting that I ever had an account. It wasn't even a very good picture, it was just one of those random ones you take when you see something you think is nice.

One year later, I'm about one hundred and twenty nine days away from finishing my 365, fingers bruised from continuously catching them in the slits of the tripod, a lot more jaded about everything than I used to be, still that same girl who can't take very good pictures, but endeavors on - for something, but I haven't figured out that something, yet.
