Today, I rooted my phone and installed the Cyanogen modded rom (version 4.22 4.23 just came out, flashing now) on my mytouch3g (mt3g/htc magic/google ion). It's sorta like jailbreaking your apple iphone, but taking it a step further with an entirely unlocked operating system allowing you to do anything and everything with the phone. A few things I really like are the improved speeds, multi-touch enabled, rotated horizontal home screen, and wifi tethering (using the phone as an internet hotspot on the go).
Ended up in Marco Polo Hotels today; good thing, as I am getting burnt out from studying for my medical board exam on February 2016.

Dating - might as well just permanently wave a red flag in the air due to not having any time available for dating (since I am never available for Fri or Sat night date nights or weekends in general) due t work and family commitments and save all the second guessing.
At least that way women can just bypass me by default and there's no need to pretend to share any interest in each other. Problem solver!
My main camera bag is the Kata Owl-272 DL but I needed a "Go Bag" for when I don't need my whole kit. So I picked up a Timbuk2 Snoop insert for my Commute XL bag. I've had this bag for years and it's always served me well, but never really used it as a camera bag. I was hoping Timbuk2 would come out with a proper insert and they did.
The Snoop small insert is a perfect fit in the Commute XL bag. I almost bought the meduim one but I'm glad I didn't. Fit and finish is typical top-notch Timbuk2. The dividers are secure and easy to adjust. I was concerned that my DSLR w/ vertical grip wouldn't fit but it does. I'm able to carry the Sony Alpha A500 with Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 and battery grip installed, 70-210mm f/4 "Beercan", HVL-F42AM Flashgun, Dell Hackintosh Laptop and various accessories. Fully loaded, the bag is comfortable to carry and everything feels well protected.

This week was relentless so here's a quick and dirty shot of the crap I've been keeping on (or at least near) my desk as of late. Let's run down them because that's easy and I can't think of anything else to write about.

nook ereader: The screensaver shown is a scene from a nedroid.com minicomic I bought a while back. I am currently reading "Soul Music" by Pratchett on it.
DS Lite (Red): It doesn't get much use from me these days. I've mainly been using it for "America's Test Kitchen" and "Personal Trainer: Cooking."
HTC Droid Incredible: Yep, my phone again. Running Cyanogenmod 6.1.0 (Viva la open-source!)
Scott Pilgrim Vol 3: Rereading the series because they take me to a happy place.
TV Remote: Yup.
Mug: 1/3 full of cold Earl Grey.
Xbox 360 Controller: Similar to the DS, I've only been using my xbox for Netflix. No time for games right now.
Meh Speakers
Creative Zen Mozaic: 16 GB mp3 player.
4:3 LCD Monitor: I'd like a widescreen monitor but this one was free and works perfectly fine.
On Screen: I run Windows 7, use Google Chrome as my go-to browser, and spend more time than I'd like to admit in Minecraft.
Textbooks: Intro to Thermal Physics and Intro Astronomy & Astrophysics. Books from previous semesters that the bookstore wouldn't give me a decent price for, so now they elevate my monitor to a comfortable height.
Tedious write-up, but whatever, this week just needs to end.
The new 7" tablet/ereader Kobo Vox inside. It is relatively easy to disassemble (all held by snaps, no glue), but you have to be very careful.
As you can see, the internal ROM is on a removable micro-SD card - so presumably you can swap it with another one, with an alternative OS image (CyanogenMod etc). Also, you can see a small button "rst1", which is presumably a full factory reset button. I haven't tried it yet.
UPDATE: The RST1 button simply reboots the unit. Someone heard from Kobo developers that there is no special button or combination of buttons which would reset the unit to the original state. But one can always make a clone of the internal micro-SD card, to another 8GB micro-SD card. You don't even have to disassemble Kobo to do that: if you are a bit familiar with Linux, simply install a busybox and shell apk's on Kobo, insert a new 8GB card in the external card slot, run the shell, and execute the command "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk1". (You might need root access for that; if so, run first the Gingerbreak v1.20 apk.) Only if you totally bricked the device, you'd have to disassemble it, and swap the internal SD card with the copy.

trying it out on the 2 android tabs I have; the nexus one and the nook color (with cyanogen 7.x installed).
this app talks to the web back-end of mpd (music playback daemon). this is a music server that runs on linux and can be controlled via multiple ways. there is also a pretty nice web interface called 'neompd' (I think its just php stuff).
from anywhere in the house, you can control the playlist, which also includes internet radio as playlist entries (that just never 'finish' and stay until you change them).
I might try to have the vol control slider (which talks to mpd's idea of volume control) actually talk to my own VoluMaster system. it would be an easy way to have access to both playlist and also my preamp's volume control, all over wireless GUI remotes.
that nook holder/stand is kind of neat, too; its a cover and also has ribs to hold the tablet at a few angles. its not a novel concept but its well enough done, here.
cyanogen 'mod' version 7 seems somewhat stable (v9 sucked badly; lots of crashes and lock-ups) and you simply download an image to an entire micro-sd card, boot from the card (the nook color boots from sd-card by default, if present) and then follow some instructions. whole process was 15 minutes or so and then you can either flash the o/s internally (I did) or just keep running from sd-card. NC (nook color) was a good deal for getting access to a very usable capacitive touch tablet.

Since upgrading my HTC Desire from CyanogenMod 7.0.3 to 7.1.0 I am experiencing poor battery life and excessive CPU use that appears to be caused by the dialer app.

We are now a family of OPO. My father, My brother and myself, three of us got OPO.
This is one of the best gadget of 2014. Moving from iPhone was a tough decision but just this device makes me feel that I made the right decision purchasing three of them instead of a iPhone6+. Still getting over hitches of Android and CyanogenMod.
