I'm super happy with this. I'vealways loved Wildfire from Legion of Superheroes (after that Legends of the Dead Earth Annual in 1996.) I think this is a pretty good shot at him.

Inspired by the "Warhammer Imperial Knight", i´ve chosen the Lego Hero Factory Mech for painting. I have tried to catch a weathered, dirty and dusty look. I build the desert base for this mech and hope the scene and pilot and mech fits together. Let me know what you guys are thinking about it!

THE GREATER GRELL, BEAKED ABERRATION.

Happy #monstermonday everyone!! Today we visit a D&D creature that is as delightfully weird as it is frighteningly intriguing. The design of this creature is... a brain-resembling body with a beak, and several barbed tentacles. It doesn't get much more aberrant than that. While they appear to be senseless creatures, they actually have incredible hearing and a sort of sense that goes beyond what humanoids are capable of. Everything about grell is fascinating, strange, and—well, GRELL.

I was inspired to revisit this odd little creature when I saw the amazing grell builds by @asortaokaybuilder over on Instagram a little bit ago, so if you haven't seen those yet, I encourage you to check them out! I had initially made these creatures for a dungeon encounter yeeeeears ago, but didn't love the way I executed their design, so I decided to redo one. Additionally, as you may well already know about me, I like to take liberties with creatures' size categories, and make them larger than normal to both add more detail, and dial up the fearsome factor a bit! Therefore, I give you the Greater Grell, a grell who has lived and fed a significantly longer time than most grell, and is thus far more powerful. Enjoy!

TAELMARIS VAUNDBRIAE, THE FROSTCLEAVER.

(Winter Wipeout, Pt. 2)

This is my second entry into the Winter Wipeout contest hosted by @haon.brx over on Instagram! The theme for this second week was "Frost Knights." My entry is a Tiefling Champion Fighter, with a powerful frosty axe as her favored weapon. Taelmaris is known as the "Frostcleaver," and her reputation for her cold ruthlessness in combat contrasts with her otherwise jubilant and hopeful demeanor.

As mentioned in the first post, there's a bit of story and lore wrapped in the form of some poetry/lyrics, so read on if you're curious!

"She heard the call, her people's plea,

To put an end to this winter e'ermore,

For starve would her kin, their stores neared empty,

Yet the blizzard that raged did not cease, did not bore.

They claimed that the cause of the ice that spread far

Lie buried in the Ice Reach Isle up north,

Some forgotten curse, from a tomb left ajar,

From the King of the Ancients, the cold winds doth pour forth.

She took up her axe and she set off toward fate

To meet with each savior she'd one day call friend.

At her courage would their misfortunes abate

For her strength and her bravery knew not an end.

When Taelmaris disembarked upon the isle

And found a land riddled with monster and foe,

She fell beast after beast with her axe and her guile

And shielded her allies from each perilous blow."

Sorry for the poor quality pic's will add better soon!

I've been entirely too busy this month to sit down for a proper #timeforcrab build, as organised by Pohaturon , which is a real shame cause I have been loving all the crabs on my timeline!

But! While playing with the duplo with the kiddo, I did manage to put a lil crabber together... Duplo counts, right?

THE WINTER WIPEOUT.

(Winter Wipeout, Pt. 7)

This is the full shot of my assembled characters from the Winter Wipeout contest hosted by @haon.brx over on Instagram! They announced the winner, my good friend @brick.roll20 , so make sure to go and show their awesome builds some love! As for my characters, if you've been following along with them and the story that I've been building each week, you're the reason that I do this.

I enjoyed the contest, and all the prompts were wonderful, as well as the other builders' fantastic figs, but it was pretty obvious there was very little chance I'd win (seriously, go check out the other builders' accounts, you'll see what I mean). I had the idea to weave together a story across many weeks into one, cohesive tale, and the creative and fun prompts helped pave the way for that. To me, Lego is primarily a storytelling medium which opens the doorway to the imagination, and I appreciate y'all following along with the story that these bricks helped write. For those who have been waiting for the conclusion, read on!

"Unchained and untested, was the Ice King's power

As five stood before him, their resolve yet unbroken.

Yet at his liberation, he had naught but a glower,

So a battle, it would be—a truth, though unspoken.

Frosty winds shrieked through the air filled with snow

Obscuring their vision and ensnaring their stride,

'Til the Rimeherald shielded them, steps no longer slow,

And Frostcleaver marched forward to turn the tide.

Axe against scepter, courage against spite,

She started to wear with each blow that she blocked,

But Zero then joined her, with cold, icy might,

And defied the tyrant, whose certainty had been rocked.

His fate now uncertain, these foes in his face,

The King summoned cages of frozen ice spikes.

Cryobrand then worked to, with fire and haste,

Free his allies from cages, while dodging frost strikes.

As the flames worked their magic, the King was enraged,

Turning his ire on the elf and her hound,

Who harried from behind whilst Snowpiercer engaged,

Her swords ringing and clinging some terrible sound.

The Ice King's attention and power divided,

The two were now freed from their perilous jail,

And let five strike as one, the King's fate now decided,

As each blow and spell upon him did hail.

A fiery wound in his chest, and one well-placed axe cleave,

The Ice King was beaten and sundered in two.

The five saved Altairus, their quest a reprieve,

And enter the legends would they, born anew.

Zero now thawed, and waved a cold goodbye,

As Frostbeak flew to send word to the land.

Now four disembarked under a clear, blue sky,

The blizzard now ended, by their heroic hand.

They returned and regaled their people with tales

Of how unending winter had finally been beat.

Though the tale now is changed from many years, many ales,

The people still celebrate the Ice King's defeat."

Just wanted to wait till the morning light to get a nice photo.

THE GREAT BATTLE OF GOTMAS.

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, and Happy Holidays to those who don't! When I made my recent habitat series, I initially wanted to make six, with one for each of these characters, but ultimately ran out of time. Still, I wanted to share them all with you anyways, so I hope you enjoy these festive (and not so festive) folks! If you're interested in the lore at all, read on!

While many people associate the dwarven holiday of Gotmas with Father Gotmas(for obvious reasons), the holiday was originally a far less merry celebration. Translating in dwarvish to mean "day of triumph," Gotmas was a celebration of the victory that Gotramor and the Elysians brought to the dwarves when they ousted the old, warmongering dwarvish king, and fulfilled the promise of finally ending the Unending Wars. For centuries, it was a holiday celebrated with a great feast, though minus some of the revelry and fun decor. When Nikolaj Frostbeard began to see families down on their luck struggle to partake in any sort of preparation for a large feast, he decided to take the holiday a bit further.

After years of helping out struggling dwarves with treats, desserts, baked goods, and eventually even toys and gifts, he had become quite the hot topic. The cheer he was so resolute to spread drew the ire from even those that lie buried under the earth, forgotten by society. It's said that a Duergar from deep in the Underdark resented the Gotmas celebrations so much, he took it upon himself to ruin them one year. The Duergar—known as Vladimir Krampuscan—heard tale of Nikolaj's exploits, sourcing all of his gifts and merriment from a "Realm of Wishes," and decided to venture there himself.

Vlad decided one day, when Nikolaj was on his way to enter the Realm of Wishes, to sabotage his mission and venture in after him, though he failed to properly account for the manner of Nikolaj's portal. Taunting the dwarf, he warned that Gotmas would cease to be, and tackled Nikolaj through the wormhole. Without a specific setting in mind as he crossed through, however, he plunged into darkness, tumbled through time and space, and fell unconscious. When he finally came to in the Realm, he discovered himself in a place where all the extremes had collided, and wishes that defied one another came to do battle. The opposing wishes chose to align themselves with two primordial forces, whose endless battle was thought impossible to resolve.

Krampuscan stood before a world half frozen by the harrowing winds of winter, and half ablaze with the scorching flames of summer heat. It was there that he met the Miser of Heat and the Miser of Snow. In a twisted turn of fate, he was somehow able to persuade them to pause their conflict, and direct their war and aggression elsewhere—somewhere their destructive might and potential could actually be realized. Now with command over ice and flames, Vladimir carved a portal into the ground, and brought his newfound allies into the world whence he came, ready to destroy Gotmas once and for all.

It is said that in his ambush, Nikolaj landed in a distant region in the Realm of Wishes, and had to venture a long, long way back to his workshop, the place from where he could return to his world. Along the way, he met a couple of allies who swore to help him, believing in his cause. Vixenia and Merry, thus, joined Nikolaj and journeyed far to reach his workshop. Stepping through his portal, he found his home in turmoil.

The city was besieged by Krampuscan and his sinister allies, spreading their destruction throughout the streets. Houses burned, shops froze over, and Nikolaj's people suffered. He took up arms, resolving to slay the Duergar and the interlopers, or die trying. When it seemed that all hope was lost, and ol' Frostbeard would meet his end that day, he was joined by two familiar friends.

Vixenia and Merry had journeyed from their world to his, to aid him in his fight to save Gotmas. An epic battle ensued, which inspired many a Gotmas song, and the tides had finally been turned. With Vixenia's sage wisdom on the balance of nature, and Merry's sound persuasive abilities and quick thinking, the Misers of Heat and Snow were once again pitted against each other, as Nikolaj delivered the final blow to Krampuscan. It is said the Defiler of Gotmas evaporated as Nikolaj's sacred hammer swung that final blow, leaving no body behind. With the remaining adversaries distracted by each other, the Guardians of Gotmas banished them back to their home plane, and ended the battle.

Vixenia and Merry stayed thereafter, aiding Nikolaj in his efforts to clean up the town, and restore his people's cheerful festive spirit, no matter how many years it took. The legendary exploits of Frostbeard earned him the moniker of "Father Gotmas," and dwarves all over the continent began to honor his bravery and mimic his gift-giving traditions. To most of the continent of Ridgar, Gotmas is simply a dwarven day of celebration and presents, but to dwarves themselves, it is a celebration of resilience, community, and the triumph of good over evil. While the damage of the Great Battle of Gotmas has long since been healed, the great irony remains: in his efforts to defile the holiday spirit of the dwarves, Krampuscan only ended up giving the dwarves even more reason to spread festive cheer.

For all you customizers, I made this animation showing several different styles of rust on these new Brickarms as a reference point. I think it's kind of cool how different colors and textures change the whole look. **To view the animation, right-click and select "Original". There are 7 different rust textures total for comparison.

This is the BTAS version, there is also a 2004 variant.

I thought the latest LEGO City space theme was pretty great - but they didn’t have any proper buildings. I took the rover lab concept and expanded it into a full facility for rover development and maintenance, and general space research. It was also a way for me to integrate the Women of Science Ideas set!
