Visit to the Gilmore Car Museum on February 13, 2014 with Flickr contacts Chelsea_Dale and David Horst 7 and two other friends. This 1951 Chevrolet is part of the "American Legends: Hot Rods and Customs" special display.
This car is a clone of the original "Bel Air Royal" which was the second George Barris customizing of a 1951 Chevrolet, which was commissioned by Larry Ernst, who was a Catholic priest (of all things!) in Toledo, Ohio. After going through a few subsequent owners, the car fell into disrepair and was subsequently restored to the style of its first customizing. This car is a clone of the second customizing of the Larry Ernst car, done by Keith Ashey, who saw the Ernst car as a teenager, actually the first custom car he had ever seen, and he never forgot about it. Since the Ernst car was restored back to its original customizing, Ashley obtained another 1951 Chevrolet and restored it to the second "Bel Air Royal" version of the Ernst car, with some slight styling improvements. The full story is in these two links: Larry Ernst's 1951 Chevrolet, Keith Ashley's 1951 Chevrolet

Part of Spike's collection, photographed at the owner's home on August 6, 2014. This collector in southeast Michigan has roughly fifteen cars in his collection. This most interesting fiberglass bodied 1941 Ford was customized by Doug Thompson of Kansas City, Missouri about 25 years ago. It is the most customized of Spike's cars and also one of his favorites.
I was honored to have my flickr contact Rogerio who was visiting from Brazil with me for this outing.
