2nd August 2012 at the Tricycle Theatre (Theatre), London NW6.
Part of “Trinidad & Tobago Culture Fest” (free event). For the Olympic Games the Tricycle Theatre became the T & T Olympic House (one of many buildings which played this role for a competing nation). During the month the High Commission organised this Festival representing the different strands of local music.
Country: Trinidad & Tobago (Norwegian resident). Style: various Trinidadian styles.
Lineup: Sleldon Blackman (v/g), Sarah Ramin Osmundsen (v), and probably Jerel Deleon (keyboard), Williams Stavik (bass g), Thomas Dulsrud (d) and percussionist.
Sleldon Blackman’s father was the late Garfield Blackman (a.k.a. Lord Shorty, Ras Shorty I), one of the founders of Soca and then the inventor of his own Gospel influenced style - Jamoo. Sheldon started out in the family band - the Love Circle. In 2008 he moved to Oslo and formed the Soul Rebels with Norwegian musicians. He describes the music as “Caribbean heart beat music” with elements of Calypso, Soca, Reggae, Rapso and Jamoo.

Hong Kong Transport - Trucks
The Hong Kong Truck Culture
The number of Trucks, Vans* and Special Purpose Vehicles (Light, Medium & Heavy) registered + licenced in Hong Kong seems to fluctuate between 120,000 - 125,000 vehicles and presumably new trucks registered are offset by old trucks being retired or sold over the border in China.
*Vans are classified as Light Goods Vehicles and are not shown in this album
In Hong Kong Trucks are classified as GOODS VEHICLES By the Transport Department - see below
☛Light Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight not exceeding 5.5 tonnes.
☛Medium Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight exceeding 5.5 tonnes but not exceeding 24 tonnes.
☛Heavy Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight exceeding 24 tonnes but not exceeding 38 tonnes.
The major truck types you tend to see in urban areas are trucks carrying construction materials or waste, dump trucks, concrete mixers and all sizes of delivery trucks... outside of the urban areas it is container trucks and large trucks carrying construction materials.
The following brands of Trucks can be seen on the streets of Hong Kong and include:-
Beiben ✚ Bell ✚ CAMC ✚ CNHTC ✚ DAF ✚ Dennis ✚ Dong Feng ✚ FAW ✚ Fuso ✚ Foton ✚ Ford ✚ Hino ✚ Howo ✚ Hyundai ✚ Isuzu ✚ Iveco ✚ JAC ✚ Kato ✚ KIA ✚ Liebherr ✚ MAN ✚ Mercedes Benz ✚ Mitsubishi ✚ Nissan ✚ Renault ✚ Scania ✚ Shacman ✚ Sinotruk ✚ Suzuki ✚ Toyota ✚ UD ✚ Volvo ✚ Zoomlion
Hong Kong is a brand conscious place even for trucks (!) hence the popularity of the European brands, Scania and Man are very popular and even the older trucks look the business and they are utterly reliable.
Isuzu is the market leader in terms of sale volume for all types of trucks.

I didn't know Burma had a wine culture. It kind of just started and I'm pretty sure one of the samples I had was liquid dirt; it had a very strong 'earthy note'
Hong Kong Transport - Taxis
The Hong Kong Taxi Culture
There are 18,163 Taxis (Red, Green & Blue) registered in Hong Kong (Source - The Transport Department, Hong Kong Government) and the industry is very heavily regulated.
☛ 15,250 Red Taxis or Urban Taxis
☛ 2,838 Green Taxis or New Territories Taxis
☛ 75 Blue Taxis or Lantau Taxis
Payment for a ride is still mainly in CASH in HK$, cashless payment ie credit cards, debit cards and Octopus cards, phone apps and such are finally being accepted for Taxi payment.
Approximately 72% of Taxis are licenced for 4 passengers and 28% are licenced for 5 passengers and within a few years 5 passenger Taxis will be probably be phased out, Hong Kong people love Uber as many of the cars are what we call the 7 seaters, big and quite luxurious Toyota‛s and Nissan‛s that comfortably hold 6 passengers ideal for groups and families | for the record Uber currently operates illegally in Hong Kong since 2014 and have tacit approval from the Government.
A major review and overhaul of the Taxi Industry is currently in progress which may see Uber becoming legal as well as other ride hailing services.
The current cost of a Red (Urban) Taxi Licence fluctuates between HK$3,500,000 | US$449,000 and HK$4,500,000 | US$577,000 with an average of roughly HK$4,100,000 | US$526,000 over a 12 month period. This figure can fluctuate as people speculate on these! At one stage not too long ago the price hit HK$7,020,000 or US$900,000 and then Uber arrived in Hong Kong. Do the math US$615,000 x 18,163 licences - you can understand why the owners of Taxis do not want any competition from the likes of Uber and other ride hailing companies.
Current Taxis are mainly Toyota, Nissan or Ford, mainly LPG or Hybrids, full EV vehicles are now being introduced again and are gaining in popularity.

Images from my last exhibition "Culture and Concrete" - I was invited to show W-wa project at Kordegarda Gallery in Warsaw. After six years of exploration my archive counts hundreds or even thousands of pictures that register particular cases of urban fetishism ordered by typologies but the lyrical aspect of this encounter with city was always the most important one for me. In this show I wanted to focus on aesthetical aspect of knowledge, on the possibility of seeing culture as pleasure. The show is build from three main elements: My pictures from project W-wa converted into Black and White (the original archive is in color), pictures from Edmund Kupiecki album from late 60's - converted into bicolor images (original images are BW) and books arranged as floating rainbow. The expo will be open until July 8th.

*news: I'm starting a benefit photography project, called "unconditional love" of people portraited with their dogs (& cats). I'll make a photoblog, an expo and maybe something printed, to help a dog pound close to Turin.
If you would like to be portraited, you're welcome. Feel free to contact me. Thanks all!
Grazie a tutti.

The slogan means the people building the bonfire rejected money offered by the city in exchange for not burning tires, among other restrictions. The message is significant because another contingent from this neighborhood is one of the first that accepted the money and the restrictions.

Berlin presents its most colourful side: At the annual Carnival of Cultures, numerous groups of diverse nationalities present music, dances, performances, visual arts and acrobatics at a parade of moving floats.

Iara foi maravilhosa, nunca gostei de alguém tão rápido. Ela começava a falar sobre seus companheiros de aulas com uma constelação inteira nos olhos. Nunca alguém me agradeceu tanto pelas minhas fotografias. "É desse projeto e visibilidade que a gente precisa, tá ligado?", dizia ela pra mim, enquanto eu ficava boquiaberta pela energia que ela emana
