Japanese and other East Asian artists and here primary school children often draw pictures from an elevated birds eye view (Masuda, Gonzalez, Kwan & Nisbett, 2008). Part of the reason for this is their there desire to show everything in their pictures, to the extent that in some of these pictures the viewpoint is from that of an all-seeing eye that can look downards in all directions. So as Masuda, Gonzalez, Kawan and Nisbett argue, part of the motivation for this is the desire to see the context of actions, events, and people. I argue that another motivation is that the internalisation of this viewpoint enables them to gain a self view in a similar way to that provided by George Herbert Mead's "generalised other." And as argued by Derrida they become addicted to this view of the world since they become libidinally involved in the self relationship that viewing themselves facilitates. Contra the Western self, there may be no sexual element to this self-viewing but rather an enjoyment of seeing themselves and their actions, as cute, from the point of view of an all seeing co-viewing mother.
This internalised other sometimes makes a reapparane in the horrible women that appear from images, television sets, developer fluid, lanterns and scrolls, or sometimes hiding in a mass of black hair on the ceiling, in Japanese horror movies and legends.
It is I believe the internalisation of this self-viewing intra-psychic Other that keeps the Japapnese as moral as their are and not any external sword (or bits of wire) as argued by Ruth Benedict.
Incidentally, my father's Art School Graduation picture was of a group of people around a table drawn from above. I believe that the auto-scopic eye in the sky is present in everyone to a degree, and felt more keenly by those of Scottish Descent such as Adam Smith (whose impartial spectator appears to be a mixture of both a linguistic and visual audience), my father, and myself.

January 26 is Australia Day. Today we have a holiday and celebrate being Australian. It is day of mixed emotions, as our Aboriginal people can't help but reflect on life before European 'invasion', and the treatment of their race afterwards.
' Professor Mick Dodson, (Australia of the Year 2009) a tireless campaigner for indigenous rights, was presented with the award on Sunday by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd almost a year after the prime minister apologised to the stolen generations.
"I'm not suggesting we move the date. I'm saying that we should have a conversation about that," Mick Dodson said.
Prof Dodson called Mr Rudd's apology to the Aboriginal people on February 13 last year "hugely significant to our history".
"That's an example of how Australians can pull together and (show) enormous goodwill to each other and be inclusive.
"That's the sort of thing we have to achieve around Australia Day. We're getting closer and closer to that," he said. '

It is important to be chic. I love the 2000s because everyone started to love haute couture. I always say: To be well dressed you must be well naked. I am never satisfied with myself and that is what keeps me going - I have no post-satisfaction. The difference between style and fashion is...

ACSA (African Caribbean Student Association) Culture Show - Showcasing cultural diversity and student talent on campus
DCMS/Wolfson Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund - 2012
Manchester Museum has been awarded £140,775 to renovate ‘Nature’s Library’.
Overview of the project
Nature’s Library will entail extensive renovation and a complete redisplay of The Manchester Museum’s historic Birds & Insects gallery. The Grade II* listed gallery occupies the second floor of the Museum’s ‘1885 Building’, designed by the renowned Victorian architect Alfred Waterhouse.
Whilst featuring beautiful specimens from the birds and insects collections, this gallery has been virtually untouched for 25 years. Nature’s Library will see a comprehensive redisplay, which combines respect for tradition with a showcase for contemporary themes and research. Restoring many of the original features of the nineteenth century gallery, the redevelopment will create the feel of a beautiful, historic ‘library’ of nature; an intriguing and encyclopaedic research area containing an enormous array of specimens for visitors to explore. Within this setting, striking new displays will showcase the full breadth and beauty of the Museum’s world-class natural history collections. They will also explore the ever-changing ways in which the collection helps us to understand the modern-day world, including its use for cutting edge research undertaken by specialists across the University of Manchester.
Key improvements to the gallery will comprise:
•Reinstatement of the original historic gallery layout
•Restoration work to the gallery’s original display cases, tiled floor and plasterwork
•Redecoration throughout
•Visually-stunning new displays
•New gallery and display lighting
•Improved interpretation across a variety of media
The project will mark the final phase in the transformation of the Museum’s natural sciences displays - phase one of which culminated with the opening of the DCMS/Wolfson-supported Living Worlds gallery in April 2011.

Counter Culture Coffee Espresso Apollo 6.3
Apollo 6.3 is 80% Ethiopia Shilicho and 20% Peru La Frontera. As the coffee cools you get the delightful floral aromatics I think from the La Frontera. But the Ethiopian coffee is really in the flavor. As I brew in a chemex it does bring out the Ethiopian beans and mutes the chocolate tones of the La Frontera. The acidity in my mouth definitely feels lemon like with a creamy texture, probably due to the darker roast used.
Many times I like to try coffees that are made to be brewed as espresso in my chemex. It offers a "stripped down" approach that might reveal what would otherwise be overwhelmed in the espresso shot. To put it as an analogy, think of watching an action movie in slow motion like in the Matrix.

Hong Kong Transport - Buses | All types
The Hong Kong Bus Culture
The number of buses registered + licenced in Hong Kong seems to fluctuate between 18,000 - 22,000 vehicles and presumably new buses registered are offset by old buses being retired or sold over the border in China. (Source - The Transport Department, Hong Kong Government)
Bus services in Hong Kong have to be amongst the best of all major cities in the World.
All major Hong Kong Bus Companies invest heavily and are using mainly brand new double decker buses and all of them are testing and introducing single and double decker 100% electric buses and also hydrogen powered buses for future use.
☛Major Franchised Bus Companies in Hong Kong
Citybus | Cityflyer ✚ Kowloon Motor Bus | KMB ✚ Long Win Motor Bus | LWB ✚ New Lantao Bus | NLB ✚ HZMB ✚ Note : New World First Bus | NWFB merged with Citybus in 2022
☛Non - Franchised Public Bus Services using double decker and single decker buses (feeder services)
Mass Transit Railway | MTR ✚ DBTS - Lantau Island ✚ Park Island Transport Co. Ltd.
☛All Major Franchised Public Minibus Services (PLB) seating 16 or 19 people
Franchised and Non Franchised Public Light Bus Red Top ✚ Franchised Public Light Bus Green Top
☛Privately Owned Buses
Toyota seems to be the preferred brand for privately owned small and medium sized buses and are used for the following purposes
Public and Private Rehab Buses ✚ Commercial Building Buses ✚ Resident Services Buses ✚ Travel and Tour Buses ✚ Contract Hire ✚ School Buses ✚ Hotel Buses ✚ Misc. Buses for any type of charter | hire too numerous to mention including cross border buses.
One of the largest privately owned companies is Kwoon Chung Bus Company who also offer Non Franchised and Franchised Bus Services through it‛s subsidiary New Lantao Bus
☛Many Hong Kong Government Departments have a fleet of buses but for some reason also contract hire from Private Bus Companies on an “as needed” basis.
Any Government OWNED and operated vehicle in this section (such as Correctional Services Buses, Police Buses etc ) have a licence plate starting AM and any Chinese Military Vehicle has a licence plate starting ZG and naturally some of these vehicles have personalized licence plates which they buy at Government Auction!

Hong Kong Transport - Trucks
The Hong Kong Truck Culture
The number of Trucks, Vans* and Special Purpose Vehicles (Light, Medium & Heavy) registered + licenced in Hong Kong seems to fluctuate between 120,000 - 125,000 vehicles and presumably new trucks registered are offset by old trucks being retired or sold over the border in China.
*Vans are classified as Light Goods Vehicles and are not shown in this album
In Hong Kong Trucks are classified as GOODS VEHICLES By the Transport Department - see below
☛Light Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight not exceeding 5.5 tonnes.
☛Medium Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight exceeding 5.5 tonnes but not exceeding 24 tonnes.
☛Heavy Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight exceeding 24 tonnes but not exceeding 38 tonnes.
The major truck types you tend to see in urban areas are trucks carrying construction materials or waste, dump trucks, concrete mixers and all sizes of delivery trucks... outside of the urban areas it is container trucks and large trucks carrying construction materials.
The following brands of Trucks can be seen on the streets of Hong Kong and include:-
Beiben ✚ Bell ✚ CAMC ✚ CNHTC ✚ DAF ✚ Dennis ✚ Dong Feng ✚ FAW ✚ Fuso ✚ Foton ✚ Ford ✚ Hino ✚ Howo ✚ Hyundai ✚ Isuzu ✚ Iveco ✚ JAC ✚ Kato ✚ KIA ✚ Liebherr ✚ MAN ✚ Mercedes Benz ✚ Mitsubishi ✚ Nissan ✚ Renault ✚ Scania ✚ Shacman ✚ Sinotruk ✚ Suzuki ✚ Toyota ✚ UD ✚ Volvo ✚ Zoomlion
Hong Kong is a brand conscious place even for trucks (!) hence the popularity of the European brands, Scania and Man are very popular and even the older trucks look the business and they are utterly reliable.
Isuzu is the market leader in terms of sale volume for all types of trucks.
