This the old road between St. Andrews and Cupar just before it crosses the Eden at Dairsie Bridge. I'm not sure if it's Dairsie Bridge or Guardbridge that is the older of the two bridges (obviously the new bridge at Guardbridge doesn't count) but from some of the signage near the fishing spot half way up the hill towards Strathkinness I noticed an old road mentioned.
I originally thought the old route between Cupar and St. Andrews went up the hill to Strathkinness but looking at the map you can clearly see a lower level route that would have been easier to traverse.
I might be completely wrong with my theory depending on the dates the Eden bridges were constructed but I was always led to believe this was the original route between the two towns.
