shows many satellite trails. The image above shows 1 of the 223 sub-exposures with 4 parallel trails close together. The exact date and time of the image and the location on Earth have been used on Calsky.com to determine that these trails are from a group of debris from the explosion that occurred on may 1, 1991 in the 2nd Delta 1 stage of the Delta 2910 Nimbus 6 Launch vehicle. This was the eighth Delta 2nd Stage to experience a severe fragmentation. The event occurred nearly 191 months after the successful deployment of the Nimbus 6 payload on june 12, 1975 . Cause of the explosion is assessed to be related to the estimated 245 kg of residual propellants on board and characteristics of the sun-synchronous orbit. This group (Delta 1 DEB 21368 1975-052CN ) is one of many groups with over 350 fragments in total.
The worst debris generating incidents have been:
1) Destruction of the Chinese Fengyun 1-C (FE-1C) as anti-satellite capability demonstration by the Chinese Government on January 11, 2007 :>300.000 fragments.
2) The collision of the Iridium 33 and Cosmos 2251 satellites on February 10, 2009 :> 200.000 fragments.

“DYNA SOAR GLIDER RE-ENTERING EARTH’S ATMOSPHERE – This is a Boeing artist’s impression of how the Dyna Soar manned space glider will look when it re-enters the earth’s atmosphere after a flight into space. Leading edges of the craft will glow from the heat created by the friction of the vehicle passing into the atmosphere. Dyna Soar will be boosted into space by a modified Titan intercontinental ballistic missile. After being separated from its booster, the glider will be left in piloted, near orbital flight. Its pilot later could glide to a conventional landing at an Air Force base. The Boeing Company, under supervision of the Air Force, is prime contractor for the system and the glider. The Martin Company is prime contractor for the Titan booster.

33370 now lives in rather different surroundings from its original haunts out of Westbourne Park.
Part of a batch of 44 10.5m long Transbus Tridents on ALX400 bodies, it was purchased for the sole purpose of replacing RMLs on route 23. This resulted in converting it to a full OPO route as opposed to it being so on evenings and Sundays only, where Metrobuses and early Trident Presidents featured. Monday - Saturday evenings, this was achieved through crosslinking boards with the 18, on Sundays it was an all-day allocation so the boards remained on the route all day.
Starting out in life as TAL1370, it was soon renumbered to TNA33370 upon the introduction of First's national fleet numbering system. In 2012, upon being replaced by E400 hybrids, it was transferred out to Glasgow, where it operates to this day along with sisters 33358, 33359, 33361 and 33374. The Caledonia-based vehicle is seen here in Balornock East with a 57A for Kennishead.
Coach on Hire
Crossways has a dealer stock Mercedes Tourino on hire whilst our own Touro BL52 OCZ is out of service for MOT, servicing and minor accident damage repairs. This Tourino is AB64 ZRN and is on hire from the Evobus dealer at Coventry and is expected to stay with us for a couple of weeks. We may also purchase it in the future depending on how it performs.
The net is made by me, and is my first attempt at doing a paper bus net. It is at the bottom of the page.
Crosslinks services out for tender
5 Crosslinks services are being put out to tender for any willing operator to take over and operate. This is due to two of our previous operators going into administration. These are:
CL3: Glasgow to London
CL4: Edinburgh to London
CL5: Edinburgh to Glasgow
CL13: Liverpool to London (Via reading)
CL14: Leeds to Newcastle
If you are interested then please get in touch so we can sort out details. Also, if you want to operate any other routes under the Crosslinks brand then please also let us know.
Vehicles needed for hire
We need to hire 30 double deckers from operators. This is for our Cheltenham Gold Cup races park and ride services in March. If you can help please let us know. We need 51 double deckers in total (3 less than Stagecoach West used last year in real life!) and are able to provide 21.
More conventional hybrids are appearing on the 68 if only at night in order to crosslink with the N68. Very helpful for getting back from Camden shows and when the 1 doesn't turn up.
Some Walworth (WL) MMCs along with the 381's E400H units have made appearances - those buses have a good deal of torque for tackling Herne Hill and Denmark Hill.
SN61CYX (2437) is at Theobald's Road on its way to West Norwood.

Many thanks to Valley Link, Chris H and Own the World for the net.
I have asked the owner permission to use this net, and so if anyone wants to use it please DO NOT just take it or I will tell them.
Here is EH23 that is ex Stockwell (SW) for variety of routes including the 88/77/87 (88 was allocated to them). Now transferred to River Road (RR) for school routes, 5 and 15 at the evening before the crosslink for N15 at night. EH23 standing at Ballards Close!
Before The Cross rail project trains ran direct to Basingstoke from East Anglia. Trouble was nobody advertised it. You were told to change and go via Waterloo. Class 170 ran the service via the North London line. See 1635 on the departures board.
With the DF streetlites returning to Rotala as part of the sale, 5 dealer stock euro5 63 plate Streetlites (of the same size) have been purchased to replace them. GL15 DGF/G/H/J/K are allocated to redditch and have wright micro hybrid fitted (due to these being part of an order cancelled by first) instead of our usual gyrodrive technology.
The net is by Peter Fray, and is an adaptation of my dual doored net with my own interior converted to suit single door layout.
In other news, the crosslinks website (www.crosslinks.webs.com) has been updated for all of the new services recently contracted out to operators. I apologize to realink coaches for their service being missed off the website for so long!
Big Developments:
Whilst we have been away from the spotlight for a while many new developments have taken place behind the scenes.
1. National Park park and rides:
For some time now we have been working with the national parks authority on trying to reduce emissions from road transport in the national park areas. Together we have found that the best solution is to create a series of park and rides outside National parks on their approaches, with attractive luxury vehicles and pricing to tempt more passengers. Over the past year existing park and ride sites have been extended and new ones created in strategic towns and cities near national parks. The first of these to be completed is the two for the Lake district National Park.
Two new park and ride sites have been created at Lancaster and Carlisle near to the motorway to tempt more travellers. There will be three services running through the park, each requiring 7 vehicles to keep up a 20 minute frequency. We have ordered Plaxton elite interdecks for these services as they provide wheelchair access with the luxury of a coach, however these are to the new shorter 13.8m length as on stagecoach’s X7 route in Scotland.
A new brand, called National Park Connect, has been created for what will eventually be a network of services that cover most national parks within the country, with the intention of linking these in time with Crosslinks services to the park and ride sites. One of the Elites is below.
Many thanks to Chris H for the net.
Cleaner Emissions for TFL
As part of TFL’s mission to reduce bus emissions by using new exhaust technology to clean up older vehicles, Sullivan’s are the next fleet to be retrofitted with the SCRT system for reducing particulates under the TFL programme. This will affect all vehicles built in 2001 to 2004, a significant proportion of the fleet. We have been assure that it will cost nothing to us and mean that the emissions of these vehicles are close to Euro 6 levels, however with other technologies we have been using (such as the GKN flyweel system) we believe emission may be well under that target one all modifications are completed.
Introduction of Eminox technology
Since last year we have been trialing the eminox fuel additive in the Crossways fleet. It saves around 1% of fuel used by a normal bus over the year. Although this may not sound like much, it is still on average a £500 per bus per year saving on fuel costs even when factoring in the cost of buying the additive.
Since trials have been successful, all fleets within the Crossways Group will now start to use the technology, potentially saving us £50,000 per year and further reducing our emissions. Crossways has already been using the technology (including the events fleet), however fleets affected by this will be the Cross Bristol, Sullivan Buses, Crosslinks, Rail Replacement and National Park Fleets.
This Crosslinks panther has a rear end advertisement for it, thinking of doing unique ones for each Crosslinks vehicle I do, what do you think anyone, any things you could think of doing in Gloucestershire, not promoting, but a famous person who lived here or famous place or something?

suffered from long journey times, having to follow stopping Silverlink

One of London Central and General's Euro 2 3-speed Voith Plaxton President Volvo B7TL survivor, I'm afraid this beastly warrior will go when contract is awarded/retained.
Somehow it stays on 68 most of the time unless it's the duty to crosslink with X68. It embraces the traffic of the closure of Turney Road, which proves effect on many routes such as 322, 432 and 468 which all curtailed to random places like Thornton Heath High Street (468), Upper Norwood (yup, 468), Tulse Hill (322, 432 and 468!) and Herne Hill (rare turning for 322 and 468!!!), also Camberwell Green, a common turn for 468. What hopes is there for 68? A narrow escape is the chance.

A Turbostar with an interesting history: 170399 was one of three spot-hire units purchased by Porterbrook, but was the only two-car unit, the others, 170397 and 170398 being 3-car units. 170399 was delivered in Porterbrook livery, featuring white body and purple doors, with Porterbrook branding, but had a SouthWest trains interior with bright red seats. It subsequently gained Crosslink-branded Anglia Railways livery and joined the fleet of 170/2s when Anglia Railways launched the service from Basingstoke to stations on the Great Eastern mainline. The unit is pictured in this livery working a Norwich-Lowestoft services past Leathes Ham on the approach to Oulton Broad North.
After moving from Anglia Railways to Central Trains, bright pink vinyls were applied advertising the bid for Birmingham to be European City of Culture in 2008; the bid was unsuccessful, with Liverpool winning. The advertising livery was removed to reveal the white and purple paint, before further vinyls were applied, this time advertising the Derwent Valley Mills.
A move to Transpennine Express then took place, with First Group dynamic lines livery applied, and renumbering as 170309, to become the ninth member of the ex-SouthWest Trains fleet when transferred north. This fleet was then moved to Chiltern Railways, with the unit gaining the number 168329 on conversion to work with other Chiltern 168s.
In 2022 168329 was launched as the first HybridFLEX unit with Chiltern Railways, featuring a new diesel and battery power system allowing the diesel engine to not be used in stations, hence reducing emissions and saving fuel.

I have only a handful of pictures of the Anglia Railways class 170s working the 'Crosslink' services between Basingstoke and East Anglia destinations. Seen soon after departing from the Witham stop from the foot crossing the short lived experiment was a precursor to Crossrail in some ways but never attracted much custom.
Class 66/7 No.66719 METRO-LAND at Ipswich on 1Z50 12:05 to Basingstoke,London Crosslink Charter on Sunday 27th July 2014.The train ran one way only for a fare of £20.
School route 655 that has since lost its contract to Transport UK BC I strongly believe they'll use a 270 mirrorless MMC which would crosslink at Mitcham. TBH I much preferred the legendary WVL204 on it under Go-Ahead a few years back. RATP seems to want to take over stuff then ends up losing it to the likes of GAL or TUK. Just shows?

TE1744 is one of a few ex-first London Tridents to come from [UX] Uxbridge Garage. Over the past few weeks, the buses have mostly come to [PB] Potters Bar, with TE1743 going to [EW] Edgware. The buses are for the school routes recently won from Sullivan Buses, so more crosslinks from routes such as 617 & 629 are likely in future. The buses have been making regular trips on W8 however this is the first Trident to touch 231 since they arrived this year. 231 last saw Tridents in early summer of 2022. Here is TE1744 standing at Enfield Chase Station preparing to return to Turnpike Lane.

The Royal Hospital Haslar was founded in 1753 and was designed and built by Theodore Jacobsen between 1946-1961. When it was constructed it was both the largest hospital and brick built building in England. Britain's first Naval Hospital which span a huge area on the coastline of Gosport is also the site of a massive unmarked grave site with an estimated 7,785 buried sailors...

The London underground system doesn't extend much into the suburbs south of the river. Forty years ago, before the construction of the Victoria and Jubilee lines, this was even truer than it is today. In South London the underground's niche in the transport eco-system is filled by the suburban services of the surface railways. While the railways were still a state-owned enterprise this meant the Southern Region of British Railways.
More wonderful to me than the better-known map (strictly speaking a topological diagram) of the underground system, was this representation of the South London suburban system which used to be given away with every copy of the Southern Region timetable. Such was the system's vastness in route miles and intensity of use, that the timetable appeared in three volumes, for the Southwestern, Central and Southeastern Divisions. When I was younger I must have spent hours at a stretch looking at this map. There was something peculiarly satisfying in its graceful angles, curves, confluences and bifurcations. It is dated ("correct at time of going to press") 20th January 1966.
Naturally I made pilgrimages to that tarnished jewel in the system's crown, Clapham Junction, where, in the toneless honks and incandescent electrical flashes of the ceaselessly passing trains, all the mysterious poetry of the metropolitan suburbs seemed distilled. I am out of touch these days and I'm not sure what changes have taken place. I know for a cert ...because I tried to travel on it a few years ago... that there is no longer a service from London Bridge to Victoria. Something tells me that the Wimbledon - Croydon service is now operated as a tramway. And isn't there something called Crosslink, or whatever it is, which somehow continues north beyond Holborn Viaduct and comes out in North London?
With Crosslinks now operational for Just over a year we thought that it would be good to reward some operators who we have thought have 'gone the extra mile' with their Crosslinks services and have impressed us with their commitment to the brand. Winners please see terms and conditions for their prizes at the end of this description.
Prize 1: Commitment to Crosslinks: An award aimed at those operators who may not always necessarily win contracts, but always bid for them when they become available.
This is awarded to Midwest Motors, a company on WordPress
Prize 2: Ease of working with. This is for the operator that we found the easiest to work with to create the contract with little argument.
This is awarded to Realink Coaches of Scotland
Prize 3: Commitment to Quality. This is the operator who has been always asking about items if they are unsure to provide as high a quality service as possible.
This is awarded to Dom's Buses
Prize 4: Crosslinks operator of the year. Yep, the one you have been waiting for! The best overall operator of the year.
This is awarded to ALTRANS EU, a company operating on WordPress
A special mention goes to Urbanbus Scotland, who were strong contenders before they announced recently that they will be soon withdrawing their contracts meaning that their routes go out for re tender. We would like to say a thank you to them for being a stout supporter of Crosslinks with many routes through its early stages and we hope they return to operating with us soon.
Please can all winners and those mentioned please flickrmail me to confirm their email addresses for me to send certificates out to them.

Terms and conditions for coach hire:
Winners and those specially mentioned can opt to hire out a Higer Touring tri axle coach from us for free for a maximum of one week. The coach will have advertising for Crosslinks and operators can add smaller logos for their company for the coach's stay with your company. Insurance and tax is paid for, however fuel is not. Operators must return coaches with the same amount of fuel or more as they arrived with. Any maintenance is paid by us so long as it is not the fault of the operator that damage was caused to the vehicle. Intentions must be clearly stated in your message.
DS54 is the last of 3 remaining Scania Omnicity (DS)’ at Sullivan Buses alongside DS51 & DS52. These buses regularly do school routes such as 617, 629 & 640. After finishing 617 or 629 journeys, these buses will occasionally crosslink onto 217 for one rounder (1 journey each way) before subbing off and parking up either beside Waltham Cross Station or back at [SM] South Mimms Garage - often blinded for the school route it will service later in the day. Here is DS54 alighting at Waltham Cross Bus Station, with a broken destination blind, getting ready for a deadrun back to the garage.

(Excerpts from Wikipedia). The station was opened on 29 March 1843 by the Eastern Counties Railway (ECR) and was named simply as Colchester. Locally, however, it is also known as Colchester North to distinguish it from Colchester Town station. Buses also use this unofficial name. Colchester station is not particularly conveniently sited for the town, but buses connect to the town centre.
The ECR had planned to build a line from London to Norwich using a very similar route to that on which the Great Eastern Main Line operates today, but funding became a problem and apart from surveying a section onwards to Ardleigh, they were forced to abandon any further line construction.
It was three years later when the onward link to Ipswich was eventually opened by the Eastern Union Railway following intervention by business interests in Ipswich, the town having felt isolated by development of the railway to Norwich via Cambridge by the ECR.
As passenger numbers passing through the station increased, particularly with growth on the Sunshine Coast Line, the layout of the station became inadequate. This problem was heightened on summer weekends when large numbers of holiday trains destined for Clacton-on-Sea were added to the schedules. The station had also been built on a relatively sharp curve.
Prior to electrification of the lines, Colchester was modernised in 1962, with a new station building on the north side of the tracks. Following the reconstruction the station has two main platforms. The "up" (London-bound) side comprises two platforms, numbers 3 and 4, which have an unusual layout: 3 is on the up main line and is served by intercity trains from Norwich, while 4 is on the up branch line which merges with the up main line where the two platforms join end-to-end. The junction is protected by a trap leading to friction buffer stops. There are also bay platforms at both ends of the up main platform. The London-end bay (platform 6) is used for peak trains to and from London. Previously this platform was used for frequent services for the Sudbury Branch Line. However, most of these services were truncated to terminate at Marks Tey from the mid-1990s. The other bay platform (platform 5) is used for services to Colchester Town and Walton-on-the-Naze. The "down" side platform is an island platform with two faces, one on the down main, and one on the down branch line. Platform 1 is mainly used for Clacton-on-Sea trains and occasionally for Norwich trains.
Former train operating company Anglia Railways operated services known as London Crosslink from Norwich to Basingstoke via Stratford. This service started in 2000 and ended in 2002.
