This reminds me how I want to create a sculpture that is created entirely by the names of donors. That is essentially all this bench wall thing is at Del Cerro Park, a place to post donor names, rather than informing the viewer as to why and what is here.

Having studied German for two years when I was at UCLA, I long ago developed a strong interest in German art. (Although my father was born in Roumania, my family name was originally German: Helftmann.) At home, I have a framed set of images from artist Max Pechstein's 12-panel woodcut called "Das Vater Unser" (The Our Father) that can be seen here:

Pechstein created the woodcuts when he was living in the South Pacific in the Palau Islands just before the start of World War I; the natives on the islands created scary "Tiki god" images that influenced his vision.
Here is the German text:
Vater unser der du bist im Himmel.
Geheiligt werde dein Name.
Dein Reich komme.
Dein Wille geschehe, wie im Himmel, so auf Erden.
Unser tägliches Brot gib uns heute.
Und vergib uns unsere Schuld,
wie auch wir vergeben unsern Schuldigern.
Und führe uns nicht in Versuchung,
sondern erlöse uns von dem Übel.
Denn dein ist das Reich und die Kraft
und die Herrlichkeit von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit. Amen.
Often when I see the team reciting the prayer in English, I think of the German version and find myself quietly reciting it.
Estonian minimalist composer Arvo Pärt has written a hauntingly beautiful solo voice setting of Das Vater Unser, set for strings and sung here by famed German counter-tenor Andreas Scholl (It's worth a listen!):

There was live music with performances, free kid's crafts and more as we celebrated Hispanic Heritage month in Center Court! — at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza.
