Location at 236th Place and Crenshaw Blvd where 8-year-old Lyle Jonston was struck and killed on March 2,1959 by a 1955 Oldsmobile driven by Rancho Palos Verdes resident, Renee Radinsky. Recent story in the LA Times about the case.

Century Blvd and Crenshaw Blvd.

This was a central shopping section for this section of Crenshaw in Gardena / El Camino Village.

The last empty lot on Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles is now for sale. As far as I can tell, nothing has ever been built here, and this is the first time I can recall ever seeing a for sale sign on it.

Norton, just off Crenshaw has tremendous curb appeal.

The Academy Theater was designed by architect, S. Charles Lee, and built in 1939. The theater was named and built to host the Academy Awards, but was never used for such. It showed first-run films for 25 years, and later showed Blaxploitation films until being sold in 1975 to faith healer, Pastor Doyle Hart, where it used as a church today. cinematreasures.org/theater/7/

Deloris Mount of Crenshaw County received third place in the hand-stitched quilt contest at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 46th Commodity Producers Conference in Montgomery Aug. 4. She won $75, courtesy of the Federation’s Women’s Leadership Division.

Siren decay. It looks like this one of the 400 or so Los Angeles sirens left over from the Cold War was hit by a car once decades ago bending it slightly. Since that time, the base has started to rust, weakening it, and causing it to list ever-so-slightly.

And so it begins... These 1986 BMX tire tracks will be the first of many BMX tracks I will see until I reach the end of Crenshaw Blvd. The South Bay portion of Crenshaw is dominated by BMX bicycles more than any other type of bike.
