if youre reading this, youve survived the holidays. nice. new year, new me, except for the occasional 4am upload whilst eating QFC sushi. dont judge, but my local QFC throws down some half way decent cali rolls available to incompetent cooks such as myself. food poison roulette? maybe. new year though. nice.
Barn cat aka Buggs aka grey cat. I'm not sure he's actually a mouser. I think he just protects the food bowl from the other cats.
Fall is upon us and the green is disappearing into radiant colors of amber, scarlet and burgundy. Little white flakes of perfection will soon appear but remember your woodland creatures. This pretty piece is in honor of those creatures. Beautiful ceramic toggle ,rondelle and twig barrel bead by Muddymuse. The toggle is looped with chips of jade, white turquoise, tiny wooden rounds, and pewter. Carved jade leaf bead plays off of the beautiful lampwork focal by Etsian, Janesbeads. The common raven (Corvus corax), also known as the northern raven, is a large all-black passerine bird. Found across the Northern Hemisphere, it is the most widely distributed of all corvids. There are at least eight subspecies with little variation in appearance, although recent research has demonstrated significant genetic differences among populations from various regions. It is one of the two largest corvids, alongside the thick-billed raven, and is possibly the heaviest passerine bird; at maturity, the common raven averages 63 centimetres in length and 1.2 kilograms in mass. Common ravens can live up to 21 years in the wild, a lifespan surpassed among passerines by only a few Australasian species such as the satin bowerbird and probably the lyrebirds. Young birds may travel in flocks but later mate for life, with each mated pair defending a territory. Common ravens have coexisted with humans for thousands of years and in some areas have been so numerous that people have regarded them as pests. Part of their success as a species is due to their omnivorous diet; they are extremely versatile and opportunistic in finding sources of nutrition, feeding on carrion, insects, cereal grains, berries, fruit, small animals, nesting birds, and food waste. Some notable feats of problem-solving provide evidence that the common raven is unusually intelligent. Over the centuries, it has been the subject of mythology, folklore, art, and literature. In many cultures, including the indigenous cultures of Scandinavia, ancient Ireland and Wales, Bhutan, the northwest coast of North America, and Siberia and northeast Asia, the common raven has been revered as a spiritual figure or godlike creature. 42558
I doubt anyone's gonna fave a pic of a fish head but I really wanted to capture how much the fishmongers at Ghim Moh Wet Market enjoy their jobs and allowed me to take as many pictures as I wanted of them working! One of them even went through the process of gutting a fish three times so my friends and I could get our shots.
And because Bon Iver is<3
iphone4 photo of grasshopper taken in Kingdom Hall parking lot on my way into meeting. The technique used was DEFINITLY inspired by the master of creature photography on flickr, Andrea Boiani, thanks for the inspiration Andrea.
For me there are multiple stories being told with this photo. Primarily it is the story of an incredible creation with intricate detail, and it should make anyone marvel at the 'Artist' who created this. You have to just wonder how so many people can be blinded as to giving credit where it is due. Simple 'cause and effect' logic makes you wonder about the 'Cause' when you see this effect.
THE OTHER STORY is the amazing iphone4. I just MARVEL at the fact that I can get a photo like this with the cam on my phone that is with me everywhere, all the time. Who needs a $2500 SLR that weighs a ton, is bulky, takes years to learn how to use, intimidates / scares away your subjects, etc., when you can take pix like this with your phone? And it's not just the hardware, it's the software people at Apple I give credit to that makes that camera work SO great. The camera on the iphone 4 is MUCH better than the previous iphones. As a dedicated photographer I can still hardly believe what a quality camera they have packed into that little phone. Apple, I love you. But I love the Hopper creator more, hehehe.
3rd story- trivial, but well, we like trivia sometimes don't we. While checking EXIF data after posting this noticed the unique time photo was taken 10am (almost) on 10/10/10
I made a drive over to the Benicia State Park about 5 miles from where I live yesterday in hopes of beating the heat wave that was expected. I took both cameras...after spending some time trying to find the birds I decided to get my macro camera out. The lesson I learned today with my macro camera is if you find a bug, sit and wait, chances are you will find many more! To my amazement they suddenly started appearing as I got my eyes adjusted for these 'little creatures'...:)
Not a huge gator, likely a female. We found lots of gators in the shallow swamp rather than the open water of the bayou. Swamps are mystical places. Our beautiful world, pass it on.

We are creatures of the Fey
Prepare to give your soul away
Our spell is passion and it is art
Our song can bind a human heart
And if you chance to know our face
Our hold shall be your last embrace....

You don't want to step on one of these. They are covered in venom-filled nematocysts used to paralyze and kill fish and other small creatures. For humans, a man-of-war sting is excruciatingly painful, but rarely deadly.
Adorably Fairy-like creatures !! The pale shades of these darlings , with their tiny raindrops -- even with no sun (!)-- fill my being with awe and admiration for all His Plant-Life Kingdom!!
And, thank you , Keukenhof Park human Artists!!
