Blind Eye propaganda

Graffiti today is more visible, less cryptic and communicates to a wider audience. Sometimes images speak louder than words as they reflect the world around it.

PROJECT: The City of Austin website guides the participant on a journey toward planning for a stable retirement.

5.1.14: The title just came to me now (17:16pm). "Free as a Bird". Random ... but not. Capture of bird random, but fortuitous. Capture of flag, not ... of course! - 28th Street between Park Avenue South and Lexington Avenues. Coming back from Zuccotti Park. This photo is part of a photo series that tells the visual story of my trip to Zuccotti Park on this day. Each photo in the series contributes meaning and significance to the story. PROJECT: The challenge was to create a season ticket brochure for the Colorado Avalanche before the team had a name, uniform, or logo. Ascent Entertainment had purchased the Quebec Nordiques and was in the process of moving them to Denver, Colorado, during the design of this brochure.

DESCRIPTION: The goal of this unique piece was to generate anticipation around the excitement of a Canadian NHL team moving to Colorado. A little known fact: The Colorado Avalanche were almost named “The Extreme,” which was used in the headline of the brochure.

Update 6.1.14: Given that these mourning doves spent so much time around me, I decided to look up their significance. According to Spirit Walk Ministry, "The Mourning Dove represents Spirit and communication with Spirit through all other creatures. When the mourning dove appears , there will be messages and and opportunity for growth".

When I looked at the photo afterwards, I was confused [updated 6.1.14]. I recall seeing a little blob on the ground while I was photographing, but I thought it was a dead mouse, or something similar. I didn't want to get too close, because then I would have blown everything. Glad that I just unknowingly continued taking pictures. My ignorance probably saved the day, the shoot, and the little chick [not sure about this part, updated 6.1.14]. On occasions like this, ignorance can be bliss! Not sure exactly what's going on under the bush there. A mother bird sitting on eggs, chicks, or several more mature chicks. Perhaps I'll find the answer in coming days. © Maria Dorothea Campbell 2014

Wall Street. Can't go down there without taking a photo of the Trump Buidling. Wall Street = Money. Trump = Money. Trump = Wall Street? The Trump Building. Figures. Only the best for him lol. Now an historic landmark, this was formerly known as The Manhattan Company Building. It was built between 1929-1930, and for a brief period of time, was the tallest building in the world, until a spire was attached to The Chrysler Building, a few months later, making it the tallest at the time. The Bank of The Manhattan Company was founded by Aaron Burr in 1799, then a US Senator, and later Vice President of The United States. JP Morgan (Chase) "traces" its beginnings to The Bank of The Manhattan Company. It has a most fascinating history. You can learn more on Wikipedia and on the JP Morgan Chase website. Donald Trump purchased the building in 1995. This photo is part of a photo series that tells the visual story of my trip to Zuccotti Park on this day. These are the four birds that were my main focus this day, and they all came together here, forming this scene for me. Fascinating! This photo is also part of a photo series that tells the visual story of my engagement with birds in the park garden where I live. Lower Broadway. Near Zuccotti Park. I couldn't resist. "Federated Crane". Found all sorts of visual ironies during my trip! For a photojournalist, it was like being a kid in a candy store. You just always have to have your eyes peeled open, on the watch out for that moment or thing that otherwise would go un-noticed. But you know that it should be revealed. It's not just about the big "Ah-ha" moments or things. It's about the little moments or details too. Sometimes it's the little moments or "things" that lead to bigger ones. Twitchers at The House of Yes in Brooklyn NYC 10.1.09 - Vulture - The Professional Mourner; Deer - Stephen Franklin, John Vogt, Jesse Erin Posner; Vulture - Anja Sapozhnikova; Mourners - Kitty, Elisabeth Wilheim, Olga El. This particular part of the evening was a bit challenging to say the least. The lighting was much dimmer (I wasn't using a flash; couldn't), and Anja did a lot of aerial performance which was very difficult to catch well with the portrait lens. Since then, I mastered it with fast movement. On this evening, however, I was still a fledgling! © Maria Dorothea Campbell 2009
