I said this before but wanted to repeat today. I hate war, but have a deep respect for the man and woman that do the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy our way of life.

I love almost any type of art and art projects. Today (Sunday) was a beautiful day, and I enjoyed the company of my two little princesses: Juju and Gabi. We played a lot and they asked me if I could do some face painting. They picked what they want and I tried to do the best I could… it is always a great hit with them, and I really enjoying doing. So, as you can imagine, one of my “hobbies” is to entertain my two little girls, especially with something that they really like face painting!

I grew up on a city called Recife, located on the coastal Northeast region of Brazil. My family and friends all had beach homes in several locations along the coast, and as far as I can remember the beach was synonymous of fun, freedom and happiness. Now living in the US Midwest, the sea is one of the things I miss the most. I miss everything about it… the smells, the warmness of the white sands, the sound of the waves, and most of all, I miss a time of innocence and dreams… so once in a while I hear the call, and maybe someday I will answer it.

The source that popularized this pictorial maxim is a 17th century carving over a door of the famous Tōshō-gū shrine in Nikkō, Japan. The carvings at Toshogu Shrine were carved by Hidari Jingoro, and believed to have incorporated Confucius’s Code of Conduct, using the monkey as a way to depict man’s life cycle. There are a total of 8 panels, and the iconic three wise monkeys picture comes from panel 2. The philosophy, however, probably originally came to Japan with a Tendai-Buddhist legend, from China in the 8th century (Nara Period). It has been suggested that the figures represent the three dogmas of the so-called middle school of the sect. (from wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_wise_monkeys)

Typesetting: the retrieval of stored letters and the ordering of them according to a language's orthography for visual display.
During much of the letterpress era, movable type was composed by hand for each page.
Cast metal sorts were composited into words and lines of text and tightly bound together to make up a page image called a forme, with all letter faces exactly the same height to form an even surface of type. The forme was mounted in a press, inked, and an impression made on paper.

I hate shaving, but letting grow is even worse. It’s so natural but if you think about in order to shave or even comb your hair you need (most of the time) look at a mirror and work backwards. It is so usual that we not even realize.
