Standard Dry Air is a standard gas composition for dry air, intended to represent the bulk average air composition encountered at or around sea level. Despite its intent of being near sea level, the composition omits water vapour entirely, since the humidity and the temperature will determine the amount of water vapour that can be present in air. Special:
- The nickname of the car, "Birdcage", he owes to the unique way in which it was built. The car consists primarily of 200 separate sections of tubes welded together that form a very strong unit, but what it gives the appearance of a "bird cage".
- Like this street legal sports car, they were built at Officine Alfieri Maserati SpA in Modena.
- The car won by Sir Stirling Moss at the wheel in 1959, the Grand Prix of Rouen (France) and the 1960 and 1961 1000 km race at the Nürburgring (Germany). The Tipos never won Le Mans due to reliability issues.
- These two-seater sports racing cars with aluminium body were specially designed for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and other endurance racing circuits.
- The engine (located in the front) has dual overhead camshafts, two valves per cylinder, compression ratio 9,8:1, a five-speed manual gearbox + reverse (one unit with the differential), a torque of 324 Nm at 5000 rev/min and rear wheel drive.
- The engine is fed by two Weber carburettors and has a double ignition with Marelli distributor and dry multidiscs clutch.
- The frame is a intricate tubular space frame chassis, designed by Giulio Alfieri, and weighs only 30 kg.
- The front suspension has coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers, while the rear has transverse leaf springs and telescopic shock absorbers.
- The brakes are hydraulically operated discs on all the wheels.
- The 1961 Maserati Tipo 61 LM Langheck, an aerodynamic version with 260 bhp/has a top speed over 300 km/h.
