I spent a little time with this guy. He told me he was down on his luck, had substance abuse problems and just got evicted. When I met him I just had a wildlife lens (200-500m) with me and I asked if I could take his picture. Of course I had to setup across the parking lot as I had to stand about 50' from him. :) He played me what I recognized as Freebird, (Lynyrd Skynyrd). I gave him a few bucks to help him out and thanked him for the song.
Colorado is certainly one place that is heaven for cowboys! This cowboy and his dog were separating out ranchers cattle into separate herds to take them down from their summer mountain pastures to the ranch for winter. Beautiful sight.

Caught Jeffrey at the computer with my headphones and his cowboy hat. Thought it might make a cool photo. Took the shot at ISO3200, ran it through NIK Dfine 2.0 to kill the noise, then ran it through Nik Color Efx to get this 'old time' photo look (and put a lot of noise/grain back in haha) to go with the hat and give a funny contrast with the headphones and computer. I kinda liked how it turned out :). Not a masterpiece or nothing but I think it is kind of fun.
A cowboy and his dogs rounding up a loose steer that had separated from the herd. Maybe needed to cool off in the river!

#10 Hey Cowboy!
Occasionally we see a working cowboy as we are driving down the road. This guy was rounding up the cattle near Dinosaur National Monument in Utah.

CNW GP30 815 is headed eastbound toward Norfolk at Tilden, NE on September 15, 1988. This scene is almost unrecognizable as the railroad was abandoned in 1992 and is now a trail and much of the related infrastructure gone.
This same train appeared on the back cover of "The High, Dry and Dusty: Memories of the Cowboy Line" as the other photographer on this day was on the other side of the tracks. Brian Walker photo.
From the archives a real-life cowboy doing his thing. I just happened across this cowboy and only had a moment to get this shot as he was gone in a flash. At first I thought the exposure was a bit off but that's just the dust being kicked up. The cows closest to the camera weren't impacted by the dust, at least not this side of them.

A photo from a past fall in Jackson Hole, WY (USA).
That year I was in Jackson from late September to October 10 and what a show it was...maybe one of the most intense I've seen over the years. The majority of the trees you see here are Cottonwoods.
I was looking at the various web cams a little earlier today and I saw where a storm front was moving through the area. And my guess is that once it passes through you'll see the first early snow on the upper elevations of the Tetons.
Another thing the web cams revealed ... the trees haven't changed much. With temps dropping nicely into the 30's at night my guess is that in 2 weeks the colors will really start popping out but the weekend of Sept 23rd will probably disappoint those who are there for the fall colors....it just looks like they will be late this year. Hey, that's ok...I'll be there through Oct. 4th.
This shot was on a day when the branch from the Snake River going through Lower Schwabacher's Landing was perfectly still.
The pdf version to my upcoming ebook "Jackson Hole, WY - A Photographer's Shooting Guide" is now completed. See my profile for more info on obtaining a copy.
Hope to see you there between Sept 28 and Oct 4..

I just release a new tutorial on how to take a portrait and a landscape in the same time using flashes! It was so much fun to work on that project with my daughter @marineramelli. Go check it out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoIw-9Y9X8c&t=103s
