In Downtown St. Catharines. Lincoln and Welland Counties were joined in the 1970s but the judicial districts remained. However, the courts moved to a larger building in 1981.

This is one of those self-indulgent things that makes most people scratch their heads at me. But here's that Colorado county thing I know you've all been sitting on the edge of your seats waiting for.
As I predicted at the start of this Colorado trip, I posted enough pictures this time around to push the number of pictures in the Colorado album past the thousand-post threshold I use as an excuse to make even more albums. (I don't know if the number of albums a user has does anything annoying on the back end of things for Flickr IT people. If it does, those people hate me.) I didn't write it down at the time, but counting back, I think this was the picture that crossed the mark. After I posted that picture, I spent a couple days creating a bunch of Colorado county folders and sorting everything, and I put it all into a Colorado by County collection you can find here. And I know everybody's rushing there to see it right now.
Of the 64 counties in Colorado, I have posted photographs from 43. I suspect there's only one additional county I've seen but haven't photographed: Broomfield County, which is tiny and weird, and I should probably go there to take a picture next time just so I can make a post about it. (Editor's Note: There's a whole clarification in the comments involving me confusing Broomfield County with a mythical county my brain made up.) So this map is an actual representation of where in Colorado I go. As I expected, the bulk of my Colorado pictures came from either Larimer County (Estes Park and the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park) or Clear Creek County (Georgetown and the I-70 corridor through the Front Range east of the Divide.) A total of 468 pictures come from those two counties, or 44.2% of the total.
I'm going to add notes to each county I've visited on the map above, labeling them and listing their county seat.
Also, I have similar county maps for Illinois and Michigan to post at some point. Maybe I'll post those on Thanksgiving, when nobody's looking at this thing anyway.

Rhinelander, WI (Oneida County)
In American folklore, the hodag is a fearsome critter resembling a large bull-horned carnivore with a row of thick, curved spines down its back. The hodag was said to be born from the ashes of cremated oxen, as the incarnation of the accumulation of abuse the animals had suffered at the hands of their masters. The history of the hodag is strongly tied to the City of Rhinelander where it was claimed to have been discovered. The hodag has figured prominently in early Paul Bunyan stories.
In 1893, newspapers reported the discovery of a hodag in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. It had "the head of a frog, the grinning face of a giant elephant, thick short legs set off by huge claws, the back of a dinosaur, and a long tail with spears at the end". The reports were instigated by well-known Wisconsin land surveyor, timber cruiser and prankster Eugene Shepard, who rounded up a group of local people to capture the animal. The group reported that they needed to use dynamite to kill the beast. (1)
