Bedford Bus Station March 1989

October 26, 2014 was a beautiful autumn day. I made a trip into the countryside west of Ann Arbor and found the autumn colors quite vivid in several locations. This relatively new home (and its neighbor) occupies a small hilltop with a fine view that is not all that far from the farm where I grew up.

The Allegany County Poorhouse, Upstate NY. Established in 1831, it was home to the poor, insane, and physically/mentally handicapped adults and children. It burned to the ground in 1923 killing 8 people. In 1924 the poorhouse was rebuilt as a ‘fireproof’ structure. This was the building that we explored on our 2013 visit to Upstate NY.

This was the second runner up for my 365 image for June 3, 2011. I rejected it only because it seemed too similar to many of my other photos. I've photographed this location before, but this place is definitely worth a return visit.

The Pisgah Presbyterian Church was founded in 1784, and is considered the oldest Presbyterian church west of the Appalachian mountains. The building pictured was built in 1812 and remodeled in 1868. In its graveyard lie the remains of seven soldiers of the American Revolution.

"But Pisgah isn't a ruin or a monument to the past. It is a thriving church where, for two hundred years, beginning in the year 1784, the people of the community have worshipped and celebrated the sacraments of the Christian faith. It is where they have married, baptized their children, confessed their sins, buried their loved ones, and were themselves buried. This cycle of worship and life has gone on uninterrupted for these two hundred years, during which time the people of Pisgah have sought the grace of God on 10,400 consecutive Sundays!"

--Thomas Morgan Ward, Sr.

Minister of the Pisgah Church 1965-1969

Seen here pulling off the stand at Luton's Bridge Street stop in the early 1980's is United Counties Bristol RE / ECW RBD 314G. It is working on a Service 30 to Dunstable Ashcroft - this service operating to and from Luton Airport was one of the mainstays of the RE's in their later years. The vehicle had been a long term Luton Garage resident and passed to the Luton and District company, later operating for M&E Coaches of Blackburn.

This is a 360 degree panorama of the Harris County Courthouses. This photo is made up of roughly 60 exposures (20 tone-mapped 3-bracket HDR shots), stitched together and exported to a flash file format for interactive viewing.

From left to right: Juvenile Justice Center, 1910 Courthouse, Jury Assembly Building, Family Law Center, Criminal Justice Center, 1301 Franklin (old jail), and the Harris County Civil Courthouse. Looks good viewed large, but better yet ....
