A Beautiful Weekend Along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway in Baker County Oregon.
Enjoyed a beautiful weekend along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway between the towns of Baker City and Halfway, enjoying the first hint of fall in the Wallowa Mountains along the way including a stop at the Halfway Farmers Market, and some time exploring the towns of halfway and Richland, and surrounding century farms.
The Hells Canyon Scenic Byway is a loop that encircles the Wallowa Mountains, intersecting with Interstate 84 at Baker City and La Grande. During the fall the byway is an ideal route for exploring the regions fall foliage and autumn splendor with some great wildlife viewing opportunities along the way.
The byway is a popular destination for group tours and offers visitors a chance to experience small town Americana in small towns like Halfway, as they explore the rugged and spectacular Northeast Oregon landscape along the way.
Hwy 86 between Baker City and the Hells Canyon Dam at the bottom of the canyon is open year round providing visitors access to the deepest river gorge in North America.

For years I have dreamed of this exact scenario: Cows 'guarding' a cattle guard. I was afraid to get too close as I didn't want to spook them. But after spending a few minutes here, it was clear they were basically okay with me.
I grabbed the 210mm lens (my longest in 4x5) and did the best I could. It's not a perfect shot, but it's okay. This one isn't really for you. It's for me, and I'm pretty thrilled with the experience.
It's rare to see a dad-joke so clearly enacted in a natural setting such as this.

In my sketchbook this work is opposite the Amish Farm Yard...I used the same colors etc....then I decided to change this one so it would not look so much the same..and this is what I got.....For the Virtual Painter ..we are traveling in Lancaster County Penn....I went all around Robin Hoods' barn trying to find an Amish buggy ....I almost thought I could hear the clip clop of the horse and the wheels turning on that road...at one time I did lots of Penn Dutch work...back in the days of yore....the right strip of quilt design and all it's color...must add joy and warmth to some of the austere rooms..

I photographed this female Ruddy Duck a few months ago at Prairie Lakes Park. I had hoped to see a Surf Scoter that was recently reported there but I didn't have any luck. However, Ruddy Ducks, Canvasbacks, Ring-necked Ducks, and American Wigeons were a small consolation.
The sun sets on the old L&N Interlocking tower in Baxter, Kentucky. This tower once controlled the busy intersection that guarded the entrance to Loyall Yard, the junction with the Poor Fork branch, and most likely the Clover Fork branch. Now it stands as a silent sentinel to an era long forgotten in a time where Wall street would gladly crap on 500 workers to save 80 cents...
Set out yesterday morning, early...very early, to get some wildflowers photos in the Hill Country of Texas. Started out a clear starry sky, but then fog rolled in by the time we got to Meridian, Texas.
I saw this scene and could not resist. The bright light at the right is a convenience store open early, and the time on the clock towers is way off...it is early in the morning, not nearly 10:00 o'clock at night. The time of morning is just before the sun comes up, when the sky is cobalt blue.
