Chilterns, Hertfordshire - with oak tree and a dead squirrel. There is more traffic here than you might think. The reason is that in addition to the villagers we do have now have an urban population moving in from the cities. The latter are people with money. They have also imported their lifestyle - meaning for example that delivery vans are now criss-crossing the country lanes.
I took this shot on a country land leading to a farm somewhere in the distance. As for the tree, it was begging me to take a shot.
Last weekend I lucky enough to stumble upon an Ebay listing of some tremendous North Country slides from the early 1980's. What really made it worth all while was they were from my friend, the late Al Thomas, AKA "The Bull Moose". Al was a great photographer and friend of many and mine for many years. Thankfully, since his passing, I have acquired good number of slides of his in my collection. It is no secret that the Northeast kingdom of Vermont and New Hampshire is my favorite area. This slide dated April 1984, shows Grand Trunk road train 393 on the approach to Berlin, NH passing the area of Cascade, NH, home of the Berlin Mills Railway. Four CNR MLW M-420's lead the train west headed for their setoff and pickup, before heading to Island Pond and Montreal. G&W's SLR is now the owner and operator of the former Berlin Sub and certainly doesn't look like this anymore. I think you might see some more Al's great work in the days to come.

This is the small country road I take everytime I go out. When I shot this photo, I was on my way back home. We are lucky to live in such a beautiful and quiet region.
The Espanola valley that stretches behind that mesa is at about 6000 ft elevation. The overlook on Hwy 502 close to Los Alamos is about at 8000ft, giving a spectacular view. No hiking required, this is pure roadside photography.

On an awesome morning, NS #509 heads west under the PT-225 intermediate signal bridge in Tipton, PA with SD60E 7010 leading. About a week earlier, someone climbed the bridge and stole the number plates off of every signal on the bridge here. NS quickly replaced with these current ones. The forecast predicted mostly cloudy this whole day which was a complete lie. There was not a cloud in sight until 3:00 PM which then turned overcast. I have been trying to plan a trip to this area for the past year and this day I picked happened to be sunny.
720nm infrared.
It was 101 degrees when I was shooting this so there was plenty on infrared light bouncing around. I don't know if air temperature has anything to do with IR but it certainly felt like it!

We've been on the road all day going down state to visit my husbands brother who is sick. I spotted this old silo along a country road.

Truly an amazing sight to see especially if you are very close to these gigantic countryside wind turbines...they are monstrous !
