SECN and counterpart CNSE were some of the more interesting trains to operate in and out of Selkirk Yard in the late 90s. These run-through trains handled traffic to/from Canadian National at Montreal's Taschereau Yard via Conrail's Montreal Secondary. As such, they typically operated with a mix of CN and Conrail power. On this day a CN SD40-2W led a pair Quality-painted units west through Guilderland Center on the Selkirk Branch. The trailing B23-7 may have simply been along for the ride, as it was not uncommon for these trains to handle local power that was brought to Selkirk for servicing.

Unlike their male counterparts, the female Painted Buntings (Passerina ciris) are less colorful but still a very beautiful bird. Females Painted Buntings and immature males are yellowish-green with green being darker on their backs than their underparts. Females will keep their coloring throughout their lives, but young males will grow their rainbow feathers after reaching maturity. Females will weave together grasses, stems, weeds, leaves, twigs to create a solid, two-inch cup shape nest. They'll attach it to the stems or roots of nearby plants to ensure its sturdiness. They usually make these nests in low-lying foliage, but if no shrubs or thickets are available, she'll fly to higher ground in a proper tree. It's not quite accurate to say that they mate for life, but painted buntings do form monogamous relationships during mating season, and they usually produce several broods of eggs with the same partner. However, these pairs might or might not come together again during the next mating season. Getting a Painted Bunting to visit your yard can be tricky. They’re more hesitant to be out in the open and need plenty of cover nearby. The perfect yard to attract Painted Buntings will have a few native trees nearby for cover, a feeder with white millet, and a shallow water source for them to drink and bathe. You don’t necessarily need every one of these to attract a Painted Bunting, but you’ll maximize your chances if you do.

Wilson's Snipe (Gallinago delicata) is the American counterpart of the Eurasian Common Snipe (G. gallinago), and they are so similar that they were considered the same species until 2003. One difference is they have a different number of tail feathers; Common Snipe has 14 while Wilson's has 16. And the single pair of stiff outer feathers that make the drumming sound in Common Snipe (see here for a photo and an explanation of the drumming: www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/51756913785/in/photolist ) are made by two pairs of stiff outer feathers in Wilson's Snipe, so making a different drumming sound. Here is a Wilson's Snipe drumming from Xeno Canto: xeno-canto.org/1011204
The name Wilson's Snipe commemorates Scottish naturalist Alexander Wilson (1766-1813) who emigrated to America in 1794. The bird was named in his honour by his friend George Ord in 1825, after Wilson's death. Very occasionally Wilson's Snipes are identified in Britain, usually on Scilly where snipes receive a lot of expert scrutiny. Although I have seen lots in America, and even one in Britain, this is the first half-decent photo I have managed of one. This was in an estuary near Port MacNeill on Vancouver Island.
And if you want to see how similar Wilson's Snipe is to Common Snipe, here's a Common taken in Britain: www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/8724214726/in/photolist

This (digital) MOC, as a counterpart of my Yavin IV Rebel Base, is a modular, imperial Tie Fighter Hangar.
The rendered images are composed of 3 modules of the hanger, the left one (the Entry) and right one (small Elevator) slightly changed. Each module has a base of 48 x 64 Studs (3 x 4 16x16 Plates) and are interconnected the classic way with pins. The pillars and walls themselves are also modular, connected by pins and can easily be replaced or exchanged with each other. A technique I used for my Republic Hangar and proven for the transport to many events.
My daughter June's cat Jacqui and the Ice Cream Maker are of course also present. ;-)
As usual I've been inspired by many great MOCers around the world. Credits go to swebricks (Star Wars Community Build 2013), Spacepilot3000 (Escape from Docking Bay 327, THE starting point when you build imperial walls), TheCreatorr (Death Star Hangar Bay MOC and of course to the epic MOCer Jerac (Middle section of his awesome Tie Fighter). And finally to myself (Republic Hangar).
I hope you like the moc and find and recognize some well known characters.

The Grevy’s is quickly distinguishable from its plains and mountain zebra counterparts due to its charming large round ears, and because it is tailor-made for the semi-arid climate where it lives. This zebra can survive for five days without water. However, even the hardy Grevy’s now struggles to live on land that has been overgrazed by livestock belonging to the local pastoralist communities. With drought always just a whisper away, the female Grevy’s zebra increasingly must leave her foal behind while looking for water. This increased search for water has amplified mortality rates, in turn leading to a dwindling population size. It is estimated that there are between 2,000 and 3,000 Grevy's Zebras remaining in the wild. (From: wildnet.org/wildlife-programs/grevys-zebra/)
In the Borana Conservancy, water is provided through local efforts so hopefully when this mare delivers her baby, she will not need to travel far to get the water she and her baby need.

Week 12/52 — Outtake #1
So here is the light and shiny counterpart to the photo I posted on Friday! I was torn between the main shot and the one in the comments for a moment, but this is the one that was orginally intended, so I thought it should have the spotlight. The picture in the comments, though, is the true representation of what my initial idea of last week's shot was: a celebration of Spring, or being able to put on a dress and run to the field with a camera, a novel and a notebook, and just write, read, lay cards, do whatever the hell I like. Which is exactly what I did that day.
I really like the main shot, though. I love those stockings, I love lace and I adore that dress. And it gives me such a warm and fuzzy feeling. :)
I hope you're all having a wonderful start of week, my dear friends.
Tropical counterpart to Northern Mockingbird of North America. Common and often conspicuous in open and semi-open lowland tropical areas, perching on roadside wires and bare snags. Silvery gray above and whitish below with a long rounded tail that is black with a bold white tip. Lacks the big white wing patches of Northern Mockingbird, and the ranges of the two species do not really overlap. Varied calls and loud mimic song is much like Northern Mockingbird.

While meeting its counterpart at Rocky, the crew on this westbound Denver-Provo and the crew on the Provo-Denver were venting some frustrations. Specifically, the crew on the Provo-Denver was unhappy about making it all the way to Rocky, only to have to tie the train down and not make it all the way into the yard. The crew on the westbound here was sympathetic, although they had no specific gripes. Perhaps because they are headed home to Grand Junction.

Six minutes after counterpart 448 cruised east, Amtrak train 449, the westbound Boston section of the Lakeshore Limited to Chicago, drifted to the bottom of the 1.4% grade as they passed CP147 on Main 2. This is the classic view looking toward the mountains from the Junction Road overpass at MP QB148 on modern day CSXT’s Berkshire Subdivision, the one time Boston and Albany Railroad mainline.
With three locomotive and four cars this modest accommodation is the only passenger train on this route these days, a far cry from the elegant New England States which once graced these very rails as the New York Central's premier service to Boston. It operated from 1938 and 1967 and was every bit the equal of the 20th Century Limited, orginally boasting an all Pullman status with a graceful boat tail observation car bringing up the rear.

With the Nickel Plate heritage locomotive as the sole power, NS train 256 is in the hole at Sidney on the NS Lafayette District as they meet their counterpart, NS train 255, hustling west towards Decatur. The conductor waves as he and his engineer give the train a roll-by.
The final Triple Crown RoadRailer trains are departing Kansas City, MO and Detroit, MI this weekend, marking an end to the use of bogie-mounted trailers. This is the last eastbound RoadRailer out of Kansas City and the second-to-last one out of Detroit, and this is also the last time a pair of RoadRailer's will meet in Illinois as well as in daylight. The real final meet will happen later tonight closer to Detroit.
The RoadRailer concept was initially conceived by the Chesapeake & Ohio in the mid-1950's, but NS brought the idea back to life in 1986 when it launched its subsidiary, Triple Crown Services. It was a revolutionary concept, and although Amtrak, BNSF, CN, CSX and UP all played with the idea at one point, it never quite caught on beyond Triple Crown.
My earliest memory of a RoadRailer was on the rear of Amtrak No. 4 roughly a quarter century ago, and I remember seeing dozens of the Triple Crown trains over the years as NS interchanged them with BNSF in KC, ultimately bound for Texas. Nearly nine years ago I shot the last westbound RoadRailer bound for Saginaw, TX when NS reduced the Triple Crown network to only one service lane between KC and Detroit. Rumors have always been floating around the for the last several years of this train's final demise, and with the aging equipment, the day has finally arrived, ending the 38-year experiment.
I'm sure you've heard how hectic it was out here with the "foam brigade" out following the train and the "alleged" head-on collision, but I'm honestly amazed at the turnout for this. It was frustrating at times with the amount of people around, but it was great to run into some people I know or haven't seen for some time. The assembled masses that gathered here for this meet was actually pretty impressive, and I definitely didn't expect these trains to bring out as many people as they did.
It was a bittersweet weekend out chasing these trains, and it's still a little difficult to accept that the RoadRailer's have finally been laid to rest. It's strange being sentimental about a freight train, but I'll certainly miss these. 8/24/24.
In Lalitpur, also known as Patan, the tradition of the Kumari is observed with its own revered Kumari known as the "Patan Kumari." During our visit, our guide arranged a brief meeting with the Patan Kumari, and I had the opportunity to quickly capture a portrait. Regrettably, given the sub-optimal lighting, the limited time frame of less than 2 minutes, and my inability to establish a connection with her, capturing a perfect portrait that showcases her friendly demeanor proved to be quite challenging. Now, let's delve into some background information. Similar to the Kumari in Kathmandu, the selection process for the Patan Kumari involves identifying a young girl from the Newar community who meets specific eligibility criteria. She must belong to the Shakya or Bajracharya caste and fulfill certain physical and mental requirements, as she is believed to possess the qualities necessary to embody the goddess. Once chosen, the Patan Kumari resides in the sacred Kumari Bahal or Kumari Ghar, a dedicated residence located near Patan Durbar Square. Like her Kathmandu counterpart, the Patan Kumari is highly revered as a symbol of purity and worshipped during religious festivals and ceremonies. Devotees visit the Kumari Bahal seeking blessings and an audience with her. Similar to the Kumari in Kathmandu, the Patan Kumari's tenure as a living goddess comes to an end with puberty or a significant loss of blood. At that point, a new Kumari is chosen through a strict process, and the outgoing Kumari resumes a regular life within the community – Kumari Bahal, Patan, Nepal

Iceland[4][5] i/ˈaɪslənd/ (Icelandic: Ísland, IPA: [ˈislant]; see Names for Iceland), officially called Republic of Iceland[6][7][8] and sometimes its counterpart Lýðveldið Ísland in Icelandic (for example this is a part of the name of the Constitution of Iceland, Stjórnarskrá lýðveldisins Íslands), is a Nordic European island country in the North Atlantic Ocean, on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.[9] The country has a population of about 320,000 and a total area of 103,000 km2 (40,000 sq mi).[10] The capital and largest city is Reykjavík,[11] with the surrounding areas in the southwestern region of the country being home to two-thirds of the country's population. Iceland is volcanically and geologically active. The interior mainly consists of a plateau characterised by sand fields, mountains and glaciers, while many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands. Iceland is warmed by the Gulf Stream and has a temperate climate despite a high latitude just outside the Arctic Circle.
According to Landnámabók, the settlement of Iceland began in AD 874 when the chieftain Ingólfur Arnarson became the first permanent Norse settler on the island.[12] Others had visited the island earlier and stayed over winter. Over the following centuries, Norsemen settled Iceland, bringing with them thralls (serfs) of Gaelic origin. From 1262 to 1918 Iceland was part of the Norwegian and later the Danish monarchies. Until the 20th century, the Icelandic population relied largely on fisheries and agriculture. Industrialisation of the fisheries and Marshall Aid brought prosperity in the years after World War II. In 1994, Iceland became party to the European Economic Area, which made it possible for the economy to diversify into economic and financial services.
Iceland has a free market economy with relatively low taxes compared to other OECD countries,[13] while maintaining a Nordic welfare system providing universal health care and tertiary education for its citizens.[14] In recent years, Iceland has been one of the wealthiest and most developed nations in the world. In 2011, it was ranked as the 14th most developed country in the world by the United Nations' Human Development Index,[3] and the fourth most productive country per capita.[15] In 2008, the nation's entire banking system systemically failed and there was substantial resulting political unrest.
Icelandic culture is founded upon the nation's Norse heritage. Most Icelanders are descendants of Norse (particularly from Western Norway) and Gaelic settlers. Icelandic, a North Germanic language, is closely related to Faroese and some West Norwegian dialects. The country's cultural heritage includes traditional Icelandic cuisine, poetry, and the medieval Icelanders' sagas. Currently, Iceland has the smallest population among NATO members and is the only one with no standing army.

The WAH-64 is the British Army version of the Boeing Ah-64D Apache Longbow. Manufactured by AgustaWestland in Britain, the WAH features several upgrades over its counterparts including uprated engines and alterations to fit British requirements. British Apaches all feature the Longbow radar - housed in the dome above the rotors - making Britain the only country to possess a fully Longbow equipped Apache fleet.
A typical armament consists of 8 Hellfire missiles and 2 rocket pods under the wing stubs and a 30mm cannon under the chin. The helicopter also features a comprehensive defensive suite.
Britain chose the Apache over the Eurocopter Tiger, Agusta Mangusta, SuperCobra and Commanche, and has flown since 2002 in British hands.
This is my second rendition of the iconic helicopter and benefits from two years' more experience, patience and ability with the brick. This is a complete re-build and only a few components have been recycled. Try and find them, why don't you?
For v2.2.0 I've completely re-modelled the tail boom (again) to get a more rounded shape, while still maintaining reasonable structural integrity. I've also added two plates to the height of the fuselage and fiddled with the rotor arangement to bring the aircraft to the correct proportions. I've also fiddled around with the chin-mounted cannon to give a more aesthetic design.

In 1964, an evil counterpart of Wonder Woman from a parallel universe named "Superwoman" was introduced. This Superwoman was a member of the Crime Syndicate of America, a villainous counterpart of the Justice League of America from the parallel world of "Earth-Three" (vs. the Justice League's world of "Earth-One").
Superwoman, like Wonder Woman, was an Amazon, and possessed similar powers of super-strength and flight. Unlike most/all other versions, her golden lasso could change shape into any form she desired, including a giant winged serpent. The Crime Syndicate first came to Earth-1 to battle the Justice League when, after near capture, they felt they needed a real challenge to their powers.
Superwoman is defeated by Wonder Woman on Earth-1 when each deploy their lassos with Wonder Woman’s proving itself the superior of the two.
However each Crime Syndicate member has a fail-safe that transports themselves and the victorious Justice League member to Earth-3. Another battle ensues and this time Wonder Woman falls victim to Superwoman’s lasso.
The Crime Syndicate puts the Justice League into a trance on Earth-1 while they prepare to battle the Justice Society of America on Earth-2, an Earth that will provide a neutral location for a final battle.
Superwoman is again defeated by the host Earth's heroine, this time Black Canary who is able to use Superwoman’s strength against her and encircles her with her own lasso.
Another fail-safe transports them to Earth-3 where Black Canary and the rest of the Justice Society are imprisoned. Superwoman and Wonder Woman have a final showdown on Earth-2 where neither has a home Earth advantage.
Superwoman yanks Wonder Woman’s lasso from her and proceeds to hurl both ropes at her rival, ensuring Wonder Woman won’t be able to make a move against her, but is surprised when the ropes sail high, realizing it takes more super-strength to control both lassos.
Wonder Woman, having anticipated this, “let” her lasso be taken and then relies on her super-swiftness to put Superwoman out of commission before she can recover from her surprise. The Crime Syndicate, having all been defeated, are imprisoned between Earth-1 and Earth-2 by Green Lantern in a green bubble.
The Crime Syndicate were freed by the time travelling villain Per Degaton after he was caught up in a time-storm, discovered their bubble, and freed them. They tried to get him, but he revealed he had made sure he and his Time Machine would vibrate at a different speed to them, meaning they could not touch him.
They helped him change history and conquer Earth-2 by stealing nuclear missiles from the Cuban Missile Crisis of Earth Prime, and when the Syndicate betrays him they are sent to 1982 of Earth-1, as he had made sure this would happen when they touched him.
They materialized on the JLA's satellite headquarters and defeated the heroes. The JSA were imprisoned in their prison, but the combined powers of Starman and Doctor Fate got them out.
They helped him again when the JLA tried to restore history, though were planning to betray him. When Degaton was defeated this timeline was erased and the Syndicate was re-imprisoned.
In the Pre-Crisis DCU any Amazon seen without her nonremovable indestructible bracelets was in fact driven mad. Superwoman was never seen with bracelets and this was part of her look to show she was, in fact, an evil aging Amazon (she also had a streak of grey hair).
On the original Pre-Crisis Earth-Three, Superwoman and Lois Lane are two separate people, with Lois working as a reporter for the Daily Star just like Earth-Two and even having a short-lived romance with Captain Comet when he came to her universe while chasing the Secret Society of Super-Villains across multiple realities.
The Pre-Crisis version of Superwoman was killed, along with the rest of the CSA, when they were trying to save Earth-Three from being destroyed by the Anti-Monitor's antimatter wave.
During the Convergence storyline, Superwoman was on death row after an accidental death happened to the Earth-Three version of Bruno Mannheim during the attack on Earth-Three's Metropolis. Due to the Rogue Hunter's interference, the Crime Syndicate failed to rescue Superwoman from death row as the electric chair was activated. She however later got better and fought her Justice League 1,000,000 counterpart.
In Post-Crisis continuity, as established in the 2000 graphic novel JLA: Earth 2 by Grant Morrison, Superwoman (and the rest of the Crime Syndicate) comes from a parallel world similar to Earth, but located in an antimatter universe (also home to the planet Qward).
Superwoman continues to make occasional appearances as a member of the Crime Syndicate, most recently appearing in storylines in the Justice League and Superman comics.
Unlike her pre-Crisis counterpart, her magic lasso doesn't change shape but releases the inhibitions of anyone tied to it (just as Wonder Woman's compels victims to tell the truth). Bizarrely she also possesses heat vision, as Superman and Ultraman do, although there is no explanation for this.
Taking the alias Lois Lane, Superwoman is an Amazon by birth, and has risen through the ranks to become the chief editor of the Daily Planet in what she calls "Patriarch's World".
This disguise resembles Wonder Woman's secret identity of Diana Prince. At the Planet, Superwoman is shown to upset her colleagues; the antimatter-Cat Grant refers to Superwoman as "Queen B", and negatively alludes to her "friendship" with the antimatter Jimmy Olsen.
In her later appearances, it is stated that prior to taking on Lois Lane's identity, Superwoman was born on Damnation Island, presumably the Antimatter counterpart to Themyscira (or "Paradise Island").
It is mentioned that she had murdered all of her fellow Amazons, and upon meeting Donna Troy, she becomes ecstatic over the prospect of being able to murder another one of her kind for the first time in years. The Antimatter Universe's version of Superwoman is the first version of the character to combine Diana of Themyscira and Lois Lane.
Jimmy Olsen is the only civilian who knows of Superwoman's secret identity. A compliant sycophant, he is so besotted that he ignores her gibes and insults, even when she tauntingly refers to him as, "Superwoman's Snitch, Jimmy Olsen", and prints it in the Planet.
Also in the Earth 2 story, her lover Ultraman hates Superwoman's frigidity towards him. Meanwhile, she is two-timing him with Owlman, and they sneak trysts whenever they feel Ultraman is not watching.
However, from his floating fortress (the antimatter counterpart to the Fortress of Solitude), Ultraman doesn't hesitate to fire warning bursts of heat vision towards them whenever he catches them together.

Power Girl, also known as Kara Zor-L and Karen Starr, is the Earth-Two counterpart of Supergirl and first cousin to Kal-L, the Superman of Earth-Two.
Journey from Krypton
After discovering Krypton was about to explode, Kara's father Zor-L launched her as an infant to Earth in a ship at the same time that Kal-L's ship was launched. However, Kara's ship took a much longer journey, resulting in her arriving on Earth decades after her cousin.
Power Girl's existence was not revealed to the general public until years after her arrival on Earth-Two. Her cousin Clark and his wife Lois provided her with a family environment that aided her transition from the virtual reality she had experienced during her voyage to real life relationships. She came to regard her cousin and his wife as her "uncle" and "aunt" for raising her on Earth-Two despite being cousins by blood and marriage. Lois Lane-Kent stated that they regarded her as their daughter.
In her first recorded case, Kara assisted Justice Society members Flash and Wildcat in containing an artificially induced volcano that had erupted in Peking, China. She then joined them and other young heroes Robin and Star-Spangled Kid to form a Super Squad, along with active members of the Justice Society, to defeat Brain Wave and Per Degaton's scheme for world domination. Later, she was granted full membership when she took over Superman's vacated spot on the team roster.
Having been raised by the Symbioship with artificial Kryptonian life experiences, Power Girl had trouble fitting into life on Earth, but with the help of reporter Andrew Vinson, she eventually adopted the secret identity of computer programmer Karen Starr. She developed her knowledge in this field from treatment under Wonder Woman's purple ray on Paradise Island. Outside of the Justice Society, she developed a close friendship with Helena Wayne, the daughter of the Earth-Two Batman and Catwoman and was later a founding member of Infinity, Inc.
Following the events of the original Crisis, Kara's background was completely altered. With Earth-Two no longer existing, Kara's origin could only be guessed at, and it was mistakenly thought that she was the granddaughter of the Atlantean sorcerer Arion and had been frozen in suspended animation for millennia until the present day.
In search of her origins, Kara traveled to Skartaris. During her journey, she met Jennifer Morgan whom she ended up considering like a sister. Eventually, the Fates called Kara back, claiming the surface needed her. It was with a broken heart she left the people she had grown to consider like her people.
After the Invasion, Kara joined Justice League Europe and was later badly injured by the second Gray Man suffering a significant loss of power. Despite this, she remained a key member of the team throughout its history, including the first encounter with the Extremists and the Overmaster.
Power Girl was recruited to be one of Oracle's first field agents. Their short-lived partnership ended in failure after a disastrous mission that resulted in a large loss of life. Power Girl believed that poor orders from Oracle were to blame for the tragedy and disliked Oracle intensely as a result (although she has worked with her again on a few occasions when needed.)
When Black Canary resigned from the JSA, she recommended Kara take her place, bringing Power Girl full circle back to the Justice Society of America.
During the events of Infinite Crisis, the Psycho-Pirate showed Kara multiple versions of her origin in an effort to drive her insane, but eventually revealed that she was not only Kryptonian but also a survivor of the entire Earth-Two universe.
Kal-L himself returned to the mainstream universe after breaking down the walls of the paradise dimension in which he, Lois Lane-Kent, Alexander Luthor, Jr., and Superboy-Prime had been living since the end of Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Appalled by the rapidly-deteriorating state of affairs on the contemporary Earth, their goal was to replace the post-Crisis planet with a recreated Earth-Two.
Kal-L's first order of business was to track down Power Girl and explain the events of the original Crisis to her, as well as confirming Psycho Pirate's claims of her Earth-Two origin. Kara's memories of her Earth-Two life were restored to her when she was re-introduced to an ailing Lois Lane-Kent.
Soon after, Kara stumbled upon a machine in which the Martian Manhunter was held captive. Before she could free him, she was attacked by Superboy-Prime and attached to the machine alongside J'onn J'onzz. Alex Luthor then revealed his true ambition of restoring the multiverse using representatives of various Earths, with Kara selected because of her link to Earth-Two.
Kara was later freed by Wonder Girl and Kon-El and joined them in fighting Superboy-Prime and Alexander Luthor, Jr.. Superboy-Prime fled Earth for Mogo, pursued by the two Supermen whom he fought. During the fight, Kal-L was mortally wounded and Power Girl arrived on Mogo with the Green Lantern Corps just in time to bid a tearful farewell to her dying cousin.
Power Girl went on to help reform the Justice Society of America, where she was elected Chairperson of the team. She led the team through its dealings with the Superman of Earth-22 and the confrontation between the JSA and the super-being known as Gog. During that battle, Power Girl was sent by Gog to the parallel Earth known as Earth-2.
Thinking she had somehow returned to her home reality of Earth-Two, she sought to adapt to life there with the counterparts of her long dead (and historically erased) friends. However, she noticed several major differences from her reality, particularly in the actions of Helena Wayne, who was going to murder the Earth-2 Joker. When Earth-2's actual Power Girl returned, it became clear that this was not her home and she returned to the Justice Society.
Following a disagreement in operational methods, Power Girl and the younger members of the JSA split into the Justice Society of America All-Stars. At the same time, she began devoting more time to her old R&D firm, Starrware Labs in New York City. and became friends with the young superheroine Atlee aka Terra III, becoming something of a mentor to her.
While in New York, she defended the city from Ultra-Humanite, who tried to transfer his brain into her body. After his defeat, Kara was spared any major conflicts until Ultra-Humanite's ex-girlfriend Satanna tried to avenge his defeat. She nearly succeeded in killing Power Girl, but Atlee's intervention saved her life.
Ultra-Humanite eventually returned to fight Power Girl, this time having Satanna put his brain in Atlee's body. She was able to knock out Ultra-Humanite without seriously hurting her friend's body, then tracked down Satanna to force her to undo the damage. When that failed, she then took Atlee and Ultra-Humanite to Strata.
Atlee's brain as returned to her body, and Ultra-Humanite' brain was put into a clone, also curing him of his genetic disease at the same time. Later, Kara offered him a job, but he refused. Before having his memories erased, he revealed that he was still evil, and swore vengeance on Power Girl before having his memory wiped.
Following Blackest Night, Power Girl returned to duty with the Justice League in order to hunt down the resurrected Maxwell Lord. While in Moscow, Booster Gold ends destroying the Justice League International embassy, greatly upsetting Power Girl. She flew off to investigate the next lead provided by Batman alone, only to encounter OMACs. She fought them, but they shut down after Maxwell Lord activated a device that erased his identity from minds of everyone on Earth.
When she returned home, she found out that her financial officer and trusted friend Donna Anderson stole all of her company's money, leaving Starrware in bankruptcy. The bank and Kara's rival companies systematically took everything all of Starrware's creations.
She then encountered a mysterious cyborg called C.R.A.S.H that was programmed to level New York City. She managed to stop the cyborg, but before she was able to turn him in, Maxwell appeared and rescued C.R.A.S.H. It was also during this time that Nicholas Cho, an employer of Starrware, figured out Power Girl and Karen Starr were one in the same and threatened to expose her.
She manages to convince him otherwise and convinces him to serve as her partner. Power Girl then went to Batman to investigate both Maxwell Lord and Donna who stole from her company. Due to Maxwell's powers, though, they forgot about him once again. Focusing on finding Donna, they learned that she died of an apparent drug overdose. Not buying the facts, Kara traced a potential lead to Antarctica. Upon arrival, she fought Divine, a clone of her created by Maxwell Lord and Dr. Sivana. When Power Girl came close to winning, Maxwell appeared, stunning her and taking Divine away. After the encounter, Kara remembered who Maxwell Lord was.
Power Girl tried to convince the JSA and Batman about Lord and the threat he posed. However, during the meeting, another mind wipe causes them to forget about him once again. Power Girl then goes to Professor Ivo's new lab in Vietnam where he's revived, Project Cadmus.
Before she could shut it down, Maxwell stopped her and used his powers, to force her to kill the Justice League International. The JLI managed to snap her out of Maxwell's control and decides to join them in stopping him.
She then goes to dig up the corpse of Ted Kord to prove that he was murdered. When she takes the body to Batman to examine it, he initially refused, but after some convincing with Batman (the recently returned Bruce Wayne), the two examined the body to learn that Ted Kord was indeed killed by Lord.
Power Girl then joins Batman and the JLI in stopping Maxwell Lord. After Lord was defeated, Kara was able to restore her company and refocus it on using her creations to help the general public. Knowing that this would mean Karen Starr would have to enter the public spotlight, she puts some advice she received from Superman into action and begins putting more effort into managing her secret identity.
Powers
Kryptonian Physiology: Under the effects of a "yellow" sun, Power Girl possesses the same potential powers as an average Kryptonian. These include:
Solar Energy Absorption: Under optimal conditions, this is the main source of Power Girl's super powers as they are contingent upon exposure to solar radiation from a yellow sun star system.
Her biological make up includes a number of organs which lack analogues in humans and whose functions are unknown. It is believed that between one or more of these and her bio-cellular matrix, "yellow" solar energy is stored for later use. This allows for the use of these powers to fade when yellow solar radiation is not available instead of immediate failure.
Heat Vision: Power Girl can, as a conscious act, fire beams of intense heat at a target by looking at it. She can vary the heat and area affected.
Super-Hearing: Power Girl's hearing is sensitive enough to hear any sound at any volume or pitch. With skill and concentration, she can block out ambient sounds to focus on a specific source or frequency.
Enhanced Vision: Power Girl's vision processes the entire electromagnetic spectrum as well as allowing vast control over selective perception and focus.
This umbrella ability includes the following:
Electromagnetic Spectrum
Vision: Power Girl can see well into most of the electromagnetic spectrum. She can see and identify radio and television signals as well as all other broadcast or transmitted frequencies. Using this ability, she can avoid detection by radar or satellite monitoring methods. This also allows her to see the aura generated by living thing.
Telescopic Vision: This is the ability to see something at a great distance, without violating the laws of physics. Though limited, the exact extent of the ability is undetermined. In function, it is similar to the zoom lens on a camera.
X-Ray Vision: This is the ability to see through any volume of matter except lead. Power Girls can see things behind a solid, opaque object as if it were not there. She can focus this ability to "peel back" layers of an object, allowing hidden image or inner workings to be observed.
The exact type of energy perceived—such as x-rays, cosmic rays, or some other energy invisible to normal humans—is unclear. This ability perceives an ambient energy source though, it does not involve the eye projecting a concentrated, possibly toxic, beam to be reflected back from objects.
Microscopic Vision: This is the ability to see extremely small objects and images down to the atomic level.
Infrared Vision: Power Girl can see with better acuity in darkness, and to a degree in total darkness.
Flight: Power Girl is able to manipulate graviton particles to defy the forces of gravity and achieve flight. This ranges from hovering to moving in any posture, in any direction.
Invulnerability: Due to the interaction of her dense molecular structure and supercharged bio-electric aura, Power Girl is nigh-invulnerable to extreme energy forces. In addition, her extends this protection against toxins and diseases.
Enhanced Immunity
Superhuman Stamina: Power Girl is able to maintain continuous strenuous physical action for an indefinite period of time. This based on her body converting yellow solar radiation directly to energy, but is limited by physiological and psychological needs to eat, drink, and sleep.
Superhuman Strength: Power Girl's strength is augmented by yellow solar radiation interacting with the greater than human density, resilience and biological efficiency of her musculature. Her strength is more an act of conscious will on energy fields than actual physical strength. It is this act of conscious will that enables her to perform physical feats that are beyond the mere application force, such as moving a mountain top without said rock crumbling under its own mass.
Superhuman Speed: Power Girl is able to move at incredible speed by sheer force of will. This extends to her perceptions and allows for feats such as catching bullets in mid flight as well as covering vast distances in little or no time.
This also confers:
Superhuman Agility
Superhuman Reflexes
Super-Breath: Power Girl is able to create hurricane force winds by exhaling air from her lungs. She can chill the air as it leaves her lungs to freeze targets. She can also reverse the process to pull large volumes of air or vapor into her lungs.
Longevity: Power Girl can live longer than regular humans, remaining at her prime as long as she was under the exposure of the "yellow" sun.
Abilities
Hand-to-Hand Combat (Advanced): Kara has trained with several notable teachers including her teammate Wildcat, who is a world-renowned boxer and hand to hand combatant. She was also trained in Karate by martial arts instructor Mongo Krebs.
Boxing
Karate
Genius Level Intellect: Power Girl has shown enhanced memorization, intelligence, and computational abilities.
Business Management
Computer Operation: Once Power Girl's computer abilities were crucial in order to save Keystone City.
Super Ventriloquism
Weaknesses
Kryptonian Physiology: Under the effects of a "yellow" sun, Power Girl possesses the same potential weaknesses as an average Kryptonian. These include:
Vulnerability to Kryptonite
Vulnerability to Magic
Vulnerability to Psionics: Kara Zor-L is as vulnerable to psionic attacks as a normal human being. She is subject to mental domination attacks against her. Those whose mental powers are superior to her own have been able to render her unconscious or disrupt her natural thought processes in battle.
Vulnerability to Raw Materials: Power Girl was vulnerable to unprocessed, natural materials, such as branches and rocks for a short while.
Power Limitation: Kara's x-ray vision cannot penetrate lead or lead-lined walls, or objects of dense enough structure. Certain energies also can be used to block her from visually analyzing them.
Power Instability: Originally Power Girl, as an Earth-Two Kryptonian, did not function on solar power, but her own body generated its own energies. However, based on recent events, Kara operates in a similar way to the New Earth universe Kryptonians, whereby she requires solar energy to function at peak capacity, or her powers fade to greatly reduced levels, some disappearing entirely if her solar reserves are empty. How Power Girl's powers function under suns not colored red or yellow is unknown.

Not perhaps as famous as its Bath counterpart, Buxton Crescent is still Grade I listed.
It was built by the 5th Duke of Devonshire in the 1780s as the centrepiece of Georgian Buxton, which was fast becoming a spa town. It was designed by John Carr of York to house 2 hotels and private lodging houses for those "taking the waters".
It's had various uses over the years, including housing the public library for a while. In 2003 a consortium of partners joined to renovate the property and it's now once again a hotel and spa.

After three days of nothing but rain, this sunrise scene was a sight for sore eyes on this morning. With there being only so much space between the mountains in this composition, it can sometimes be difficult to capture any clouds between them, while the light is right. I know this is one very large mass of a cloud, but I think it did its job beautifully!
May this be an open window to somewhere other than where you currently are :-)

Polistus humilus- There are two, wasps building this amazing hexagonal honeycomb structure out of wood fibre and their saliva, on the wall of one of our watertanks, which seems quite a sensible place to build in the heat of summer!
They are one of 12,000 wasp species in Australia, Paper wasps play an important role as pollinator in the Australian ecosystem. .Adult Paper wasps eat nectar, though they collect caterpillars to feed their larvae.
As such, they play an important part of pollinating along with keeping garden insects under control.
Paper wasps are not as aggressive as their European counterparts, however, they can be aggressive when defending their nests. There are more than 35 species of native Paper wasp, and each has a distinctive nest design.
Can you see the little round eggs in the top rows of the honeycombs?
