A Word from the Maker;
COSMOGRAW/TESSERACT draws inspiration from the
concept of a cosmogram, a geometric representation of
embedded belief systems. It explores nonlinear
narratives by layering repeated shapes to create
redundancy and a shifting perspective, mirroring Detroit's
dynamic nature. The piece emphasizes the circular
cosmology of time, where death leads to rebirth and
endings become beginnings. It embodies the Sankofa
principle of looking back to move forward, completing the
cycle and passing down stories. This work, utilizing
wood-to-wood joinery, symbolizes life and time as
circular concepts. COSMOGRAW/TESSERACT serves
as a graphic expression of the Sankofa principle and the
recursive design technique used to generate fractals.
